What are the differences between the GT 1000, GT 2000 and GT 3000?
I have made an overview of basic information about the 3 running shoes.
As you can see, they are very similar to each other.
Study the chart closely, or see my comments below the overview to learn more about what distinguishes the different models and where the differences are.
Which one should I choose?
Overall, there is no doubt that the GT 1000, 2000 and 3000 are all very similar to each other.
The first thing I find most people notice is the price difference.
Runners often ask if the Asics GT 3000 is the best running shoe since it is the most expensive? It depends on what you are looking for. So you can’t always make it up that the most expensive running shoe is the best. It is important that you listen to yourself and take the one that best suits your running style, and not least your needs when you are on the road. This will give you by far the best running results now and in the future. It is important to listen to your body’s signals, that cannot be said too often.

What’s new in GT-2000 v. 7?
Asics GT2000 is this slightly underrated running shoe that has actually been around for many years, but is still a relatively new player on the field. The version number 7 that we have now indicates that the shoe has not been around for very long. But that is a bit of a truth with modifications. It is correct that the shoe has not always been called what it is now, but Asics has had this type of shoe in their range for many years. Today it is called Asics GT-2000 7. While in the past it has been called, for example, 2160, 2170 and 2180. A shoe that many runners have loved dearly, and still do..
But I would also like to say something else. There could easily be 50%, 60% more runners in the Asics GT-2000. Because it is severely underestimated, and perhaps suffers a bit from being the little brother of the Asics Gel Kayano. But nevertheless, there are many lighter Kayano runners who would experience getting a much more optimal running shoe by switching to the Asics GT-2000. When that was not what it was supposed to be about. But more about what you can expect from the Asics GT 2000 v/7 compared to its predecessor the GT 2000 v/6.
There are a few really good updates in the Asics GT 2000 v.7. The shoe is still exactly the same in terms of construction. It is still constructed with a wedge on the inside for runners who pronate. The weight has not changed much compared to its predecessors, and the drop is still 10mm. So you don’t have to worry about all those things. Asics hasn’t touched them.
Look forward to the upper part
Asics has optimized a lot on the upper in the GT 2000 v.7. Both in terms of the material in the upper, but also some good measures around your toes. But let’s start with the material in the upper. It is the good jacquard mesh from Asics that wraps around your foot. It gives you fantastic lightness and a unique opportunity for your feet to breathe.
But what might be even better for some is the toe box. It has been made better and bigger. It has been a bit of a criticism of the Asics GT 2000 in the past. But it has been optimized this time so that there is more space, and in your take-offs you now have better space for your big toe in particular. It is a fantastic update.
The softness is unique
The midsole in the Asics GT 2000 v.7 is a FlyteFoam Lyte. This very durable, elastic and very responsive midsole. It ensures that you get the most optimal softness. Both in impact and in stride. Inside the shoe you have a SpevaFoam insole which in itself is very, very soft for an insole to be.
Asics GT 2000 v. 7 is here to stay
Just like the last time they updated the shoe, the Asics GT 2000 is here to stay. It’s a really good running shoe, which we think is a bit underrated in relation to the number of runners. In the automotive world, this shoe can be compared to that Toyota station wagon that just trudges along without any problems. So you don’t get a Porsche when you buy an Asics GT 2000 v. 7, but you don’t get a Lada either. You get a solid running partner that’s packed with cool features.
So much can be said about the Asics GT-2000
You can read a lot more about the Asics GT-2000 by clicking on the link below. We have a full review and test of the shoe in more than 3000 words. Rejoice, there are plenty of gold cards
Choose Asics GT 1000 v6 if…
Asics GT 1000 4 is the cheapest of the 3 shoes. This makes the shoe the obvious choice for those looking for the absolute cheapest running shoes. Conversely, you should be careful not to conclude your final price based on the recommended price. Because the Asics GT 1000 4 is not nearly as popular as the Asics GT 2000 3, you will often find that the Asics GT 1000 3 is more expensive than the Asics GT 2000 3, even though it is 200 kroner cheaper in recommended price. If the price of the two shoes is the same, I would always choose the GT 2000 3.
Choose Asics GT 2000 v5 if…
Asics GT-2000 is perhaps, no it is the most popular and optimal model of the currently 3 GT models from Asics. GT-2000 has now reached its 5th version, and again there have been some notable upgrades that you as a runner will certainly notice. These are upgrades that are intended to improve the already good and high comfort found in Asics GT-2000 v4
The shoe hasn’t been tweaked in its general structure, and still has the same drop and all these basics. But there have been refinements in some parameters that the runner can hardly help but notice.
Asics tries again…with the heel
There is not much bad to say about an Asics running shoe in general. But if there is one place where optimizations have been constantly attempted over the years, it is on the heel. If you have been the happy owner of a pair of Asics running shoes, then it is almost certain that you are familiar with the fact that there have been problems with the heel “going up” or being worn out with a hole as a result. An extremely annoying factor when the rest of the shoe is so unique.
I version 5 of the Asics GT-2000 is once again working on this issue, and the preliminary results say that you have something to look forward to. The heel becomes more stable, firmer, and this ends up in better support, but hopefully also better durability.
The midsole is lifted higher
It’s not here that you feel like something is missing. Asics has been known for their super shock-absorbing running shoes, and their very soft and “bouncy” effect. But in the Asics GT-2000 version 5 they have chosen to make the midsole a little more shock-absorbing, and that’s without compromising the stability of the shoe. It remains the same, and the shoe is still intended for runners with mild to moderate pronation..
The primary difference is that the midsole has gone from being SoLyte to being a FluideRide midsole. It’s a longer and somewhat technical explanation, but you simply get a better midsole with more softness and a longer lifespan.

Asics GT-2000 is the little brother of Asics Kayano
We have made a direct comparison of Asics GT-2000 version 4 and then Asics Kayano. There you can read about and watch the video of the direct comparison between the 2 shoes. Asics GT2000 is a bit of an overlooked running shoe compared to its so-called big brother. In fact, I dare say that at least 4 out of 10 “Kayano runners” would get a more proper and more comfortable run by switching to Asics GT-2000.
And with yet another update in this GT2000 v5, we have come even closer to a Kayano running shoe, but without changing the key points. That is, the points that we believe make the Asics GT-2000 a more optimal running shoe for some runners.
You can read more about Asics GT-2000 vs Asics Kayano her

Asics sells the most GT-2000
If you look at the world, many would probably guess that the most sold Asics Gel Kayano from Asics’ many large warehouses around the world. But the fact is that the Asics GT-2000 is their best-selling running shoe worldwide. Many will probably be a little surprised by this, but it has to do with several things. Firstly, the Kayano has received such hype in Denmark that it is natural that you would guess it. But besides that, the Asics GT-2000 is an excellent alternative to the Kayano, and that is why significantly more of this running shoe are sold around the world.
The GT-2000 actually comes in 3 models
Not many people know it, and it’s not that obvious, but the Asics GT-2000 is actually produced in several versions of the same shoe. And that’s clearly because Asics knows that they are dealing with one of their absolute best-selling shoes. There is of course the classic Asics GT-2000 that you know. The one you know from the road in the construction that you can read about here. But at the same time, at the time of writing, both a so-called ShowLite model and a trail version of the Asics GT-2000. The LiteShow model is an autumn and winter setup of the classic gt-2000. However, it has got a little extra strength in the upper and it is more reflective. Asics GT-2000 trail is an even rougher running shoe. As you know a trail running shoe. It should be able to handle a lot more when you challenge it more in the terrain. The trail version has a PlasmaGuard membrane which is highly water-repellent.
Choose Asics GT 3000 2 if…
In fact, the Asics GT 3000 2 differs significantly from the Asics GT 2000 2 and Asics GT 1000 2 by having a pronation wedge that runs from the heel all the way forward in the forefoot. This makes the Asics GT 3000 the most optimal choice for those of you who pronate in the forefoot. Forefoot pronators are most often runners who are also forefoot landers, and here the Asics GT 3000 2 is an excellent choice.
News in Asics GT 1000, Asics GT 2000 and Asics GT 3000
There are a number of upgrades in the new Asics GT editions. Whether it’s the GT 2000 3, GT 1000 4 or GT 3000 3, the shoe is packed with new technology.
- First and foremost, the GT has far more GEL than previous models. It is thus the GT shoe ever with the most GEL and thus the most shock absorption.
- An upgrade to a 2-layer midsole of SoLyte has been made, which makes it possible to differentiate the shoes for men and women, so you get the best possible fit.
- The pronation has been upgraded, now with a dynamic DuoMax pronation wedge.
- A redesigned heel counter, the purpose of which is to improve the shoe’s comfort around the heel counter.
- The previous shoe had a standard sole of 12 mm, which in the newer Asics GTs has been reduced to 10 mm to promote a more natural running style.
- Goretex: There is now an Asics GT 2000 Gore-tex version. The shoe comes in a goretex version that is good for winter running. Goretex ensures you dry feet.
- Trail version: Like a goretex model, an Asics GT 2000 trail running shoe has been released. The midsole and upper are the same as the GT 2000, but the trail shoe comes with a better grip in the sole, giving you a better footing in muddy and uneven terrain.
- GT 2000 version 3: Has once again been updated in the upper so that you get a better and softer mesh upper that your feet can breathe even better in. This is combined with more support and softness in the optimized midsole on GT 2000 version 3.
My test of the Asics GT 1000, 2000 and 3000
I have been considering for a long time how I could best convey all the knowledge there is about the 3 running shoes, which are very similar in many ways. I chose to buy all 3 running shoes and test them at the same time. This gives me the best possible basis for comparison. As you can see, I have not run equally far in all shoes. I will touch on this a little in each of the 3 tests, but without reading any further, you can probably guess which shoe is my favorite.

Asics GT 1000 test and review – 244 km
The Asics GT 1000 is a cheap running shoe that comes in a variety of colors. The model evolves from year to year, but I have to be honest and say that the Asics GT 1000 is not a running shoe for me. I have nothing against running in cheap running shoes, but when running shoes are as cheap online as they are, it’s hard to motivate myself to run in shoes that aren’t as good as the Asics GT 1000 when I can choose the bigger brother, the Asics GT 2000. Nevertheless, I managed to run 244 kilometers in the shoes.
My test of the Asics GT 1000 took place primarily on asphalt and gravel. In this test, I tried to pay special attention to the comfort and durability on longer trips. I experienced a couple of times that when I get over 20 kilometers, the shoes collapsed more. This means that you have an unnecessary loss of energy. This is something that bothers me a lot. I want my running to be as efficient as possible. I would gladly pay 200 kroner more to run 1 minute faster in 5 km and at the same time have a more pleasant experience with my running training.

The comfort of the Asics GT 1000 was excellent, but nothing to shout about. Compared to the Asics GT 2000, the heel was a little looser and there was a little more room in the forefoot.
Since I didn’t test the shoes further than 244 kilometers, I have also read around the internet what other people have had of experiences with the shoes, and it is clear that the satisfaction is not the greatest. My recommendation after this test, which is now formed in this review (see the video at the top by the way), is that you buy the Asics GT 2000 instead.
Asics GT 2000 test and review – 813 km
I have tested and reviewed the Asics GT 2000 running shoe. It is a running shoe that I have previously trained in (also the older models) and I must say that the development has gone in the right direction. The new Asics GT 2000 is in many ways a big upgrade from the previous models. This time around, I ran a total of 813 kilometers in the shoe. In my test of the Asics GT 2000, I have primarily trained on asphalt and gravel. This is where the shoe does its best.

The landing in the Asics GT 2000 is quite comfortable. However, I wouldn’t say it’s as soft and comfortable as the cushioning in a shoe like Brooks Adrenaline GTS, which is my favorite when it comes to the heel landing. Don’t get me wrong, the heel landing is soft and comfortable, but the Asics GT 2000 is a value for money running shoe, so not everything can be perfect.
I especially found the upper to be comfortable. When choosing running shoes, it is primarily the upper that is crucial for comfort. At least when you are standing still. The breathability in the upper works well, and is comparable to what other top models can achieve. I experienced a few times that my feet became very swollen due to the heat – but it was also 32 degrees and I ran 20 kilometers in them. If you are very concerned about breathability, you should also take a look at the Saucony Kinvara, which is not the same type of running shoe as the GT 2000. The Kinvara is a lightweight running shoe.

As far as stability is concerned, I think the Asics GT 2000 does an excellent job. In my review, I would like to emphasize that I think the support in relation to pronation is almost on par with what you find in the Kayano. This is precisely why many people switch between the two running shoes.
Asics GT 3000 test and review – 140 km
Asics GT 3000 is for those of you who overpronate (also in the forefoot). I must hasten to say that this is not the case for me, which is why it is a bit misleading that I am testing this running shoe. I have omitted to comment on the pronation in the forefoot, which I have not noticed much for good reasons. I pronate mildly, and I think that Asics GT 3000 has helped my overpronation well on the way from my heel landing to the forefoot push-off.
The fit is like in the other GT running shoes, quite comfortable. The fit is not extremely good, but definitely above average. I noticed that even on longer runs the fit was good. Sometimes my feet hurt on longer runs due to my choice of running shoes, but the Asics GT 3000 caused me no problems.

The sole is very similar to what you find in other Asics running shoes.
After 140 kilometers I stopped training in the Asics GT 3000. Normally I like to run until the shoes are completely worn out, or well worn out, to see how durable they are, but since the Asics GT 3000 wasn’t exactly the shoe for me, I didn’t want to spend too much time testing the shoes. I got a good impression of the shoes after 140 kilometers.
What others have said about the GT series
Lisbeth Larsen, Copenhagen City, Hyggeløver 25 km/week
Lars. L. Pedersen, Horsens, runs 40 km/week in the running club
Kasper Schodt, Visby, Extreme runner with +100 km/week
I have also found excerpts from other websites that provide an overview of other runners’ overall assessment of the shoe.

Choosing shoe size
Asics GT sizes do not vary from other normal running shoes. You can therefore expect your GT running shoes to fit well compared to other everyday running shoes. In general, you can buy Asics GT 2000, 1000 or 3000 in ½ size larger than your everyday shoes, then the size will fit. You can see from the figure below how other runners have rated the size in Asics GT.

Advantages and disadvantages
There are always a number of advantages and disadvantages to running shoes, regardless of price range, type of shoe, weight, etc. When I evaluate running shoes, I evaluate them in relation to other running shoes of the same type. I never compare asphalt running shoes with trail running shoes – it makes no sense. On the same basis, I evaluate the various advantages and disadvantages of Asics GT. It is based on personal experiences with the 3 shoes.
Benefits
Good comfort around the heel area
A cheap running shoe online
Good shock absorption in the heel and midfoot
Disadvantages
Durability could be better
The heel goes up.
Why you should buy the shoe
- The price is low – there is a lot of competition, hence the low prices
- You can choose between the cheapest Asics GT 1000, the most popular Asics GT 2000 or the more expensive Asics GT 3000
- It’s a good shoe for those of you who run a few times a week.
- There have been some nice updates recently with the latest technology from Asics – yes please!
Analysis part 1: Who is the shoe aimed at?
Running style
Asics GT 1000 and Asics GT 2000 are aimed at runners with light to moderate pronation who want good cushioning. This is for those who need an extra pronation wedge. Neutral runners can also run in Asics GT 1000 and Asics GT 2000 – I have actually rarely heard neutral runners complain about the shoe.
The Asics GT 3000 differs slightly from the other two models by having extra cushioning and pronation support on the inside of the forefoot. So if you pronate on the forefoot, the Asics GT 3000 is a good shoe for you.

Fit
Based on a size 42, width D for men (normal width in men’s running shoes) and a size 39, width B for women (normal width in women’s running shoes), the overall fit is as follows:
- Heel: normal, maybe a little narrow (close fit)
- Midfoot: normal size
- Forefoot: normal size/fit
- Toe height: normal, maybe a little low – this gives a good fit
- Arch structure: normal – good for slightly pronating runners
- Shoe shape: semi-curved
The Asics GT running shoes are “normal” in many ways.
In fine clothes
All 3 shoes are best on hard surfaces.
Price level
The price level for Asics GT 1000 and Asics GT 2000 is the value for money segment. Relatively cheap running shoes where you get a lot for your money. Asics GT 3000 is a premium running shoe.
Weight
You can see in the table above how the weight of the 3 shoes is. As you have probably noticed, they are in roughly the same range. In terms of weight compared to other shoes, the Asics GT is very neutral. It is not a particularly heavy or light shoe, compared to other shoes in the same class.
Type of shoe
All 3 shoes are for running on asphalt and gravel. It is a mass training running shoe that you can run many comfortable kilometers in.
Durability
I personally think that the durability of the different shoes is roughly the same, however the Asics GT 1000 lasts somewhat worse than the other two models. After only 600 kilometers the sole started to wear out, whereas it was still good after 1000 kilometers in the Asics GT 2000 shoe.
Drops and heights on the forefoot and heel
I would like to refer to the table at the top of this article, where I review the different GT running shoes and compare them side by side.
Analysis part 2: Structure (preferably with bullets)
The outsole
To be completely honest, I have to say that there is nothing special about the outsole. The outsole is similar to that of many other Asics running shoes. It lasts many kilometers and is best suited for running on asphalt and gravel. I have primarily tested the shoes on asphalt and gravel where they do excellently. On rainy days, I have occasionally experienced a slight slippage on the heel on gravel (actually also if the gravel is very dry). Keep in mind that this is not a trail running shoe, but a shoe for asphalt running.

Midsole
The midsole is made of Fluidride, which is a relatively new technology from Asics. It provides comfortable shock absorption. Compared to the previous material choice, it is 20% lighter and lasts for more kilometers.
Heel
Asics GT 1000, as well as Asics GT 2000 and Asics GT 3000 all 3 have a lot of shock absorption in the heel. It is especially Asics DuoMax (Dynamic), which provides this shock absorption on the inside of the heel. In addition, there are GEL spots in the heel area, which reduce your impacts against the ground.
Middle
In the midfoot you will find the Asics Trusstic System. It is a technology that gives you a straight and correct run from heel strike to forefoot push-off. It is the Trusstic that stabilizes your foot.
Forefoot
The forefoot has GEL, as does the heel and midfoot. On the underside of the Fluidride system there is a guidance line, the purpose of which is to transfer as much energy as possible from your heel landing to the forefoot. It is important that as little energy as possible is lost in this process. This is something Adidas has worked a lot on, and in their new series of running shoes, Adidas Boost running shoes, you have reduced energy loss more than ever before.
Upper part
The upper comes in two materials. An inner part, which you find in most running shoes, and an outer part. Many traditional running shoes have this upper construction. However, many Nike shoes, especially Nike Flyknit the shoes, have switched to making the upper as one piece of material without annoying seams. Now I don’t think there are any inconveniences in the upper of the Asics GT shoes, so for me it is a little unnecessary, but for others it has proven to make a difference.
Difference between women’s and men’s shoes
In general, the Asics GT men’s and Asics GT women’s are very similar. If you are a man considering running in the women’s shoe, you shouldn’t have any major concerns about the fit. The biggest challenge will be the color combinations.
Weight-wise, the Asics GT 2000 women’s shoe is somewhat lighter than the GT 2000 men’s shoe. The same applies to the GT 1000 and GT 3000 shoes. But that’s not something special about this shoe – it’s a pattern that generally occurs.
The women’s and men’s models differ primarily in stiffness. Neither shoe is particularly stiff, but the men’s model is somewhat stiffer than the women’s version.
Additionally, the shock absorption in the Asics GT 1000, 2000 and 3000 is slightly better in the men’s model compared to the women’s model. This is primarily due to the usually higher weight of men. The difference is not large, but it is noticeable.

Where can you find the shoe on sale?
Prices vary greatly on the Danish internet market, so it’s worth looking around when you’re looking for new running shoes that you’d like to buy on sale or at a discount. Here at iloebesko I’ve made it easy for you. Not only do I sort the cheapest running shoes – you also get a direct link to Asics GT men’s and Asics GT women’s, so you don’t have to bother finding the running shoe on the website. I collect the best offers and keep you updated with sales on Asics GT running shoes.
Whether you are looking for the men’s or women’s model, you will certainly be able to find great deals on all versions of Asics GT. They are constantly good deals when you shop online. If you are looking for a definite sale on Asics GT, you should especially search in August and January for older models. This is when new models are released and the old ones go on sale.
About the price comparison itself
In this price comparison of Asics GT I have made it easy for you to choose the right store to buy your new running shoes from. It can be difficult to understand the amount of information you get from a simple Google search. Here you have the best and cheapest running stores all in one place.
I have chosen not to include all running stores. There are several reasons for this. Many sell Asics GT because it is a very well-known running shoe, but not all of them meet my requirements. I want you to have a good experience with your purchase. You won’t get that by buying running shoes in a dubious sports store on the internet. All stores that are included have the E-mark and have the NETS payment system. These are two things that ensure that you can make a safe purchase. I know how important it is to feel safe and actually get your new running shoes!
But that’s not all. The dealers of Asics GT must meet our requirements for service, knowledge and general administration. It’s nice that you can ask the dealer for advice about the different running shoes, and you can do that with certainty at the mentioned dealers. They specialize in running shoes, but also sell running clothes and other running-related items. Use the price comparison on Asics GT – it’s a 100% free service that should be taken advantage of.

Comparison
Asics GT is not one of the top models from Asics. However, that does not mean that you are getting a bad running shoe. On the contrary, you really get something for your money. Asics GT is the little brother of Asics Gel Kayano, but see that as a positive thing – a cheap running shoe that is almost as good as the best running shoes. If Kayano and GT cost the same, I would choose them at any time. Asics Gel Kayano men’s or women’s.
Whether you choose the Asics GT 2000 or one of the other two models (GT 1000 or GT 3000), they are very similar to the Mizuno Wave Inspire shoes. They are in the same price range, and it is my personal experience that the fit is also roughly the same. Alternatively, you can look at a shoe from Saucony called Triumph. Saucony shoes are not as well known and popular as mainstream Asics running shoes, but the quality is at least as good. If you want to vary the load on your feet, I think Saucony Triumph is an excellent supplementent.
The world’s best-selling running shoe – Asics GT 2000
Over the past 6 years, the Asics 2000 series has earned a reputation as one of the best everyday training shoes. It is a natural choice for runners of all types. The midsole balances soft cushioning and responsiveness. The outsole lasts well for hundreds of kilometers – many run +1000 km in the shoe. It is obvious that this model is Asics’ top seller in the running shoe category. Within the GT series, it is the Asics GT 2000 that takes the title as the best-selling shoe. The Asics GT 1000 and Asics GT 3000 are also popular models, but far from winning titles as the best-selling running shoes.

Summary
It can be confusing to see the differences between the Asics GT 2000 and the other two: Asics GT 1000 and Asics GT 3000. All shoes are for pronating runners who run on asphalt and gravel. I personally have good experiences with the shoes, but I must admit that none of the 3 shoes are candidates to be my favorite running shoes.
If you run +40 km/week, I think you should buy premium running shoes like Asics Gel Kayano instead. They are very similar to each other.
I have nothing against the Asics GT shoes as such, but I know there are better ones.
