Children and adolescents cannot use the traditional formula for BMI.

In good shape, but bad BMI?
Your good shape can have a big impact on your BMI calculation. The above calculator is based on the average body – and not, for example, the body trained for sports. When you are trained and in good shape, it is clear that your BMI is better, but our calculator does not take this into account. But why is that? Well, when you have a low fat percentage and greater muscle mass, it will have an effect on the calculator. It will register your weight in general, but it cannot see that it is muscle? And muscle weighs a lot more than fat. So you should take the general calculation with a grain of salt. And then of course look at your own body and make an assessment. So roughly speaking, you can use the BMI calculation to give you an insight into the condition of your general body – it is not particularly suitable for you as an athlete and with a trained body.
Changing BMI numbers?
Yes, of course you can change your BMI number – that’s logical. And since it’s a very simple calculation based on height and weight, it’s a no-brainer. So we have to assume that you can’t do much about your height – so it’s your weight that makes the primary difference and the result in a better BMI number. We definitely recommend that you do this with running or other training. Losing weight or starting a diet should always involve some form of exercise. It’s the healthiest thing for the body, and your weight loss will be more “smooth”
Measurement of body fat and muscle mass
Many people have asked for a calculator that calculates the amount of body fat and the amount of muscle mass.
It’s not something I want to include on this page. My opinion is that it can’t be calculated. It requires a deeper analysis of your body.
If you go to a fitness center, you can get an estimate of your body composition.

Things to be aware of:
- Take measurements under the same conditions. This means that you should do the following the same for the measurements you are comparing: 1) eat dinner the day before at the same time, 2) go to bed at the same time, 3) get up at the same time, 4) eat the same breakfast and consume the same amount of fluid.
- Take the test in the morning. It’s best to do it immediately after you get up. That way you have the best basis for comparison.
- Don’t get disappointed/excited by 1 result. The measurements should primarily be used as comparison material. Take 2 tests 1-2 months apart and see how much you can improve.
