When you’re going out for a winter run, it’s important to have the right shoes and clothes. There are various principles that apply to choosing clothing, which can be good to follow when it gets cold, wet and windy.
Winter training race – rules
There is the V.I.S running rule, which consists of 3 factors. First, there iswater repellency. When it rains a lot, it’s important to have water-repellent clothing that can keep you dry during your runs. Once you get wet and cold, it can be difficult to get warm again.
Next, there isInsulation and sweat transport. Many people think that water-repellent clothing cannot be sweat-wicking, but it actually can. However, that is not the most important thing. The most important thing is that you wear inner layers that are sweat-wicking so that you can keep your body dry.
Other good tips for winter running and winter running clothes
Make sure to wear multiple layers to wick away sweat. Running in multiple layers provides more warmth and better thermal regulation. Also, don’t wear too many clothes. It can quickly become too much. People tend to wear too many running clothes when they run.
Make sure you run in tight running clothes. Good winter running tights or a tight running underwear from Falke work wonders. Also make sure you are well dressed on your hands and head, possibly with some of the great products from Nathan or Falke.
Finally, you need to be seen in the dark. Always make sure you have plenty of lights and reflectors on. Reflectors are not always enough – try also wearing some LED lights when you train.
