I love compression stockings. You might use them too. But are we being too gullible? Never before have so many participants at the Copenhagen Marathon been equipped with this performance-enhancing product. But does it even help? I’ll delve into the research results.
You shouldn’t believe everything you hear.
Personally, I advise many people on a daily basis about the use of various sports products.I also recommend compression stockings. because I know the effect is well documented.
That being said, very strong statements are frequently made by brands and stores about how amazing these compression stockings are.
Results from a real research study on compression
Two researchers have designed the publication:
”Effect of compression stocking on running performance in men runners”
The research documents the effect of wearing below-the-knee compression stockings compared to normal running socks. The research was conducted back in 2009, but is still fully valid today.

The target group was 21 men aged 39.3 years +/- 10.9 years. None of the men had abnormalities with their lower legs. The group was divided into two groups completely randomly.
The runners were asked to complete a pre-run test to get basic information about their training level. After 10 days of 100% recovery, a new run test was performed, where a number of parameters were measured.

ResultThe pain was obvious. Compression stockings is performance-enhancing. By using compression around the calf muscles, you increase your lactic acid threshold. This means better performance. Energy burn was also lower while using compression. This means a more efficient running style. VO2max was not significantly different between the two groups. This means that there is no documentation of increased oxygen uptake when using compression stockings. This is typically one of the most frequently used sales arguments.

Do you use compression stockings? And can you feel the effect?
