Recovery or just general well-being? Tired legs are useless legs. Do you train a lot and can recovery massage help? Another massage gadget or a useful piece of tool?
These are just some of the questions we were able to ask ourselves when it came to this test. After a good portion of input from various social media and other runners, we naturally also had to test the Flowlife Flowpillow. This little massage pillow that is set up for minimal filling but great efficiency. What miracles could such a small thing accomplish? Or is it just another gadget fuser for the closet?
The model used in the test is the Flowlife Flowpillow HEAT. This is a model where you can choose to add heat to your massage.
Flowpillow provides easier recovery
My primary focus and approach to Flowpillow was actually to achieve easier recovery. I had read that this was one of the primary things it could do..
A little info about the problem and challenge I have is probably in order. I don’t know if everyone feels this way, but the undersigned struggles a lot with both tired and heavy legs. Typically, it is about 24 hours after a “hard” workout that this condition takes effect. And in this test and situation, I have taken running and crossfit as a starting point. It is a completely different matter when it comes to football, so you have to take that into account. But it is the case that I, as I will also mention later, if I want something with my running, such as running after an ambitious time, then I am “forced” to drop out, or at least significantly throttle down my crossfit training. The two things simply do not fit together in the way my body obviously works.
When I read about the Flowlife Flowpillow, I actually thought at first glance that it was probably just another one of those massage gadgets that would end up floating in a closet. Now, I haven’t written this test and review after 6 months, but I’m convinced that when I reach 6 months or for that matter 12 months, the Flowpillow will still be placed in the immediate vicinity of my sofa. There is nothing at this time to indicate that this little fantastic thing should end its days in the closet with the other “this-I-can’t-live-without-this gadgets. It simply works too well there. The only thing that could get the Flowlife Flowpillow out of the way I see it is if a similar (and better) product came out, or the current version was updated with new features that I wouldn’t be able to live without.
Flowpillow has really given me a boost in the right direction when it comes to recovery. Of course, it’s not like I’ve gone from extremely tired and sore legs to not feeling anything at all. But when I use my Flowpillow after training, I can feel a clear improvement, especially in my legs when the tiredness sets in. They are still tired, but it’s especially in the lightness that I think I’ve been able to feel the big difference.
What does recovery massage mean?
Yes, what does that actually mean? There is probably a longer scientific explanation for that. I don’t know it, and fortunately I can’t bore you with it. But I can tell you that it is believed that massage (for the purpose of recovery) can reduce the “inflammatory state” that occurs in your muscles and fibers during hard training. Your muscle fibers are damaged every time you train, and a condition is formed in your muscles that massage can help with. In fact, it is estimated to be up to 30% improvement. Now I understand better why cyclists spend so much of their active careers on a massage table..
But Flowpillow is a good tool to help this process along. And it’s also a cheap solution. Now you might be thinking “1100 kroner (which is the recommended retail price) is a lot of money for me.” Don’t worry, it certainly is for me too. But what if you look at the situation a little more closely and think how much you could save? Not only in kroner and aunties that the masseuse might have, but also in frustration over lack of training because you’ve been slightly injured?
It is possible that you do not sit with your Flowpillow for the same time interval as when you visit your local masseuse. But my assessment that the effectiveness, with a view to better recovery and less risk of injury, is just as great. Your Flowlife Flowpillow runs for 15 minutes at a time, and I have done that if it was, for example, my calf muscles that I was tired in, then I have spent 15 minutes on each leg, so 30 minutes in total.
Training becomes a habit
And then your tendons and muscles get more and more in control of their recovery. But when you suddenly step out of your regular training routine and try something different, you very often experience greater soreness and not least stiffness in your muscles..
I noticed this problem through “self-examination”. The transition from any sport to CrossFit, or back to CrossFit, is hard. If you’ve tried it, you know what I’m talking about.
Whether you have done crossfit before or it is your first time, a longer break from the sport is synonymous with sore and very stiff muscles when starting or returning to it. And here I have really enjoyed the Flowlife Flowpillow. When you have made the decision to skip your crossfit training for a longer period of time to focus exclusively on running, the road back to your old crossfit shape is both long and “painful”. Crossfit is just a sport where you discover muscles and tendons that you did not know you had, and which in “normal” sports do not really come into play..
Just to name two things, burpees and squats are two of those things that can make even the most agile runner wheeze a little. If you’ve tried crossfit, you probably know what I’m talking about when I say that after a good crossfit workout, it might be a little further down to the toilet seat than you think is comfortable. Where you just have to let go of the last 5-7 centimeters and bet on you hit it?
In this regard, Flowpillow from Flowlife has helped me a lot in reducing that soreness. And it’s not just in the thigh and buttock muscles, but also in the arms, back and neck.
Flowpillow, with infrared heat
And why is that? There are several different reasons for this. There are the proven benefits and then there are the pleasant benefits. Throughout our test, it should not be a secret that there is of course something extra pleasant about the muscles, skin and tendons being given some heat during the massage. In fact, massage can easily be performed without the heat, but it just makes it a little more pleasant..
But it is also true that infrared heat has an advantage for you. And especially with regard to your recovery. Infrared heat helps to increase your blood circulation, thereby promoting your recovery. So not only does the deep massage have a positive effect, infrared heat also provides a great advantage. Where massage can provide up to 30% reduction in inflammation/waste products in connection with your recovery, infrared heat can provide the latter in the form of increased blood circulation. The 2 things combined are a fantastic tool for recovery.

Massage AND heat are a good combination
Of course, it has a scientific effect. The infrared heat increases blood circulation and thereby promotes the ability to get rid of waste products faster, while the massage goes in and reduces your inflammation in the muscle fibers. It’s as it is.
But I would like to say that I just think it’s a super nice feeling that Flowpillow emits heat, or at least that you have the option to activate it, as it completes the whole.
Buy Flowlife Flowpillow online
I must hasten to say that when we bought our Flowpillow for our test, it was still a relatively new phenomenon. Or at least it was not that widespread in Denmark. We also hasten to mention in this section that we ourselves have bought and paid for our Flowlife Flowpillow. So no product placement or purchased article here. You can find Flowpillow at Løbeshop.dk and or on the official Swedish website for the product flowlifesweden.com
Flowlife specializes in products for recovery in connection with sports and training. Flowpillow Heat is one product, but they have also developed one of the best massage guns on the market.
Flowlife Flowgun massage gun is essentially a device that has the same purpose as Flowpillow Heat. The product has been developed with the aim of especially recuperation in sportsmen and athletes. But where Flowpillow works more around the muscles, you could perhaps say that Flowgun has better preferences for working deeper into the muscles and tissues. The massage gun comes with 4 different massage heads, which suit different muscle groups around the body.
The kids love it too
In fact, a therapy-like pattern has almost emerged. Without it, it must be some kind of hocus-pocus halloujsa and I got much better children from this. It’s not like that. They are just as impossible as they always have been. But I actually think it says a lot about the product that they can easily figure out how to use it (they are 7 and 10 years old at the time of writing). But they actually also found peace and a bit of “therapy” in loosening up their muscles. It was primarily their leg muscles that they really like using Flowpillow on. A pair of children’s legs that sprint around the school, jump on the trampoline and practice soccer almost continuously, so they are stressed, and especially our one son, I can feel how tense his calf muscles are.
He has no idea how it would be easier and more comfortable if you massaged them, and I or his mother are absolutely not allowed to touch it and try to loosen it. It sometimes itches too much, but then it also hurts a little. Here the Flowpillow has really been a help. If he can use it and feel it, I believe that, in any case it won’t hurt.
Everyone can use a Flowlife Flowpillow
Flowpillow is small and practical
You will also be able to read further down that the size of the Flowpillow is perfect and a huge advantage. I will allow myself to compare it a little with Recovery Boots, mostly to get my point across. I don’t think a flowpillow here is as effective, or in fact, they don’t affect the same things. I love wearing Recovery Boots, but the big disadvantage is its bulk. If I want to take them on a trip, I really have to be good at packing so that they don’t become a burden (read: it can’t be done). But when I look at the Flowpillow, with its 1.6kg and its minimal size, it can be taken everywhere. It can be in the regular work bag or in the suitcase when you go out and travel. And that makes it an ultra-flexible tool, which I would argue is used much more precisely for the reason that it is easy to carry around.
Can everyone use a flow pillow?
Yes, everyone can. And not only because it is devilishly easy to operate, but also because of its functions.
The undersigned uses it often, and through this test, for the purpose of recovery and relief of stiffness/soreness. but everyone can use a massage once in a while. You don’t have to go crazy on the highway and run your lungs out of your body before Flowpillow makes sense for you. For example, do you have a job where you walk a lot or you stand up most of the day. Then I definitely think you would be happy with a Flowlife Flowpillow. When you sit on the couch in the evening and your legs “spin” Most people know that feeling. A deep and effective massage can really help.
The 5 best things about Flowlife Flowpillow
There are a lot of great things about the Flowlife Flowpillow. And I don’t think it’s a secret anymore that I really like it and its features. There are many things to say about it, but below I have listed the 5 things that I think are the best about it, and that have given me the most value in my use of the product.
1. The silence. I’ve mentioned before that you can use your Flowpillow pretty much anywhere. But if you’re sitting in a meeting, a conference or somewhere else where you need to be relatively quiet, it doesn’t help that you have a massage unit running that makes more noise than a toad-old lawnmower. So the fact that you can barely hear the Flowpillow, and you can use it almost invisibly, is a big advantage for me.
2. The size. It’s small, compact and efficient. It’s just easy to use. Doesn’t take up much space in your bag or suitcase.
3. Efficiency. I don’t know what I had imagined, but I know this little machine is both efficient and durable. It does its job really well.
4. Cordless. You need a cord when you charge the lithium battery in the Flowpillow, but otherwise you can move around freely with it. You are not forced to sit near a power outlet because a motor has to pull it.
5. Price and yield. As I write, 1100,- can be a lot of money. Or it is a lot of money for me anyway. But I have not regretted my purchase once since I unpacked the Flowpillow for the first time. It wasn’t long before I had a feeling that the product was “earned”.

Disadvantages of Flowpillow
Of course there are some of those too.
The classic one is the battery life that is too short. If both my wife and I have been out running and want to use our flowpillow, it is just barely possible for both parties to be satisfied. If I could optimize in some places, I would immediately cram a larger battery into the Flowpillow.
Flowpillow battery is rechargeable
I have not tested the battery life. But fortunately there is a rechargeable lithium battery in the Flowlife Flowpillow, anything else would not make sense either. But it is a clear advantage that it can be recharged over and over again. When this lithium battery will become “flat” I cannot yet comment on. The test has not been done so long after the purchase of the Flowpillow.
I have mentioned a disadvantage of the product above, namely how long this battery can hold power. And I will emphasize it again, that can easily be optimized. I would like to be rid of that annoying factor, and also the fact that the charging time is a bit long in relation to the usage time. But if that is really the only thing that annoys you about the product, then I think you should just be happy. and you can plan out charging and usage.
Flowpillow can be recharged again and again and again.
Satisfaction guarantee suggests belief in one’s own abilities
When a company goes out and promises a satisfaction guarantee the way Flowlife does, it suggests self-confidence and a belief in one’s own abilities. That’s when you know you’ve invented a product that can do its job.
