Hiking

hiking and walking

Walking, hiking or just a walk. Dear child has many names, and even more variations. Hiking is closely related to running. And just like in running, there are also lots of different variations (trail, tempo, city etc.)
Hiking, of course, also comes in many variations. And the great versatility is probably why hiking in Denmark has become so big. Everyone can join in, big and small, young and old.The starting points are probably different, but as a whole, everyone can join in on a “hike”

Of course, there is a big difference between taking a walk through your local town or packing your bags and traveling to Kilimanjaro to hike. But if you travel away to hike a mountain, your requirements are different. But basically, it is still just a walk.

Hiking is big in Denmark

The Danish people have been happy for many years for a brisk walk. Whether it’s for the pleasant company or as an alternative to, for example, a run. The Danes are happy to walk and hike.
The year 2020 was the year when this initially popular trend exploded in Denmark. When the Covid-19 pandemic took hold in Denmark in the years 2020 and 2021, more hikers came onto the Danish roads, into the Danish forests and along the Danish sound.

Can you hike in Denmark?

Yes, there are lots of really nice hiking trails in Denmark. But since Denmark is a relatively flat country, you shouldn’t expect to gain a lot of altitude in the Danish terrain. But if you’re into altitude, and therefore a more challenging hike, you can take a look at our Scandinavian neighbors. In both Norway and Sweden, there are lots of “more challenging terrain” than in Denmark, when measured in altitude..
But are you new and want to start hiking? Do you want more than “just” the usual walk with the family? Then start in Denmark. There are plenty of challenges for most people.

Lots of Danish hiking trails and routes

As mentioned, there are plenty of good hiking trails and walking routes in Denmark. There is something for everyone. And there are not fewer, quite the opposite. As hiking and walking have become more widespread throughout Denmark, more and more planned hiking trails and walking routes have also emerged. Fortunately for everyone, in different lengths, so everyone can join in. The good thing about most hiking trails and paths around Denmark is that you can adjust the length yourself. You can walk on and off most paths.

Some well-known hiking routes in Denmark include: The Army Road, The Camo and if you want more of an urban feel, you can choose The Amarmino.

        Walking is everyone’s business.

Going for a walk has been something you did all your life, and maybe you still do. Unless you have a disability that prevents you from walking, a walk has become everyone’s property. But there is such a huge difference in how an individual experiences a walk..
Many people associate a walk with a quiet, peaceful and pleasant trip through nature. Where time is not a factor, calm descends around you, and you are allowed to think, or enjoy the company of good friends or family. That is the ordinary walk.

If you were told that the walk would now be at a significantly faster pace, your clothes would be soaked with sweat, and your feet would be sore for 2 days, would you still call it a walk?
It just shows the difference in how much scope there is in the concept of walking. It’s probably a big exaggeration to say that no two people do it the same way. But at least there are a lot of options for how you can tackle a walk.

Walk or run! What do you choose?

Here on the site, which is originally a website for runners and with the main focus on running shoes. Walking has become an increasingly natural part of our daily lives. Of course because walking and running are so closely related, but also because many runners use walking as a supplement, perhaps in connection with recovery. It used to be that if you went for a walk as a runner, it was because you were injured. But there are many advantages to combining running and walking. It used to be that if you had to do proper exercise with a sweat on your forehead, you went for a walk, not walk. But you can easily get just as much training out of your walking as out of your running.

Here at least we see it as a natural part of our everyday life AND training. It is with this approach that we have tried to build our walking universe. You will come across many different articles, tests or observations. Not only aimed at the serious athlete, but certainly also at Mr. and Mrs. Denmark. Because that’s you and me.
