The story behind Hoka One One running shoes

Actually, it’s still a bit of a blank slate. But not yet. The short facts are that Hoka One One is a French designed brand that emerged from the sports industry. It is the 2 former Salomon employees (Salomon also has French headquarters) Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard who have developed and taken the initiative to bring Hoka One One running shoes to the world. They do it well, and they do it of course also based on the expertise that they both bring from Salomon, which is known worldwide as a highly technical brand.

What does Hoka One One do that others can’t?

With each passing day, Hoka One One is gaining more and more ground. It is a running brand that has gone a little against the grain, at least seen from Danish eyes. Just as we had been bombarded with minimalist running shoes and barefoot running, Hoka One One is coming in with running shoes that are of a slightly different mold. But in other countries and parts of the world, Hoka One One is extremely widespread. For example, in South America, Hoka is a running brand that many runners now use. This is because Hoka One One is developed to handle the tough and demanding trips in that terrain.

Hoka One One will innovate with MAXIMUM cushioning

Hoka One One takes on minimalist running shoes and teaches us that a running shoe doesn’t have to be small and refined.

I am personally a big fan of Hoka running shoes. And that’s without me having been given anything to say about them. I would really like to admit that my first thought about the running shoes from Hoka was that they will never succeed. And when I had to test these running shoes for the first time, well, I thought, it will be for the 2 obligatory trips, and so on with other shoes. But Hoka One One has taken me by storm (and there is still something to do). I am sure that we will see more and more of this fantastic innovative running brand.

Do you want to be a maximalist or a minimalist?

Minimal running shoes are something that most runners are familiar with. When we talk about Hoka, we are talking about maximalism. They have gone a little against the grain and created maximal running shoes. These are not running shoes that are heavier than regular running shoes, but simply an expression of a running shoe that performs maximally when we talk about lightness and shock absorption. And you have to get used to that type of running shoe – just as it is “hard for the body” to get used to running minimally, you also have to get used to running in Hoka One One maximal running shoes. But when you reach your goal, and your body is used to it, I doubt you will run away again.

What can my Hoka One One running shoes do?

1. Types of training

Below is a list of some of the types of training I think you should use, or can use, Hoka running shoes for.

  • Volume training – there are a lot of kilometers in their running shoes. And you run with absolute maximum cushioning
  • Long distance training – When you’re going out for long distances. Hoka helps you all the way. Lightness and lots of softness.
  • Trail running – there are models for trail running where you get the same good qualities.

2. Level and risk of injury

Hoka are special, and you should be aware that your body will most likely have to get used to using these running shoes. Our experience is that you should definitely build up slowly. Let your body get used to running in these shoes
The level is for everyone. Anyone who wants lots of cushioning should try a pair of Hoka running shoes at least once in their life.

Different types for different needs?

Running shoes from Hoka One One are developed to work in very difficult conditions. Mountain running, trail running and of course road running. They operate with different structures on their running shoes / midsoles. You can see them below:

  • Ultra Size – it is their most shock absorbing midsole, and it can provide up to 2.5 times as much cushioning as a regular running shoe. The midsole can be up to: 35mm in the heel and up to 31mm in the forefoot
  • Over size also has an extremely cushioning midsole. And the facts about it are: Up to 30 mm in the heel and up to 25 mm in the heel.

You can read more about the different running shoes and their construction on the international website forHoka One One

Fast and Far – just out of there

Hoka One One creates high-quality running shoes based on the motto Fast and Far. You should be able to run many and several kilometers in your running shoes. This is meant both in the sense that you should be able to take long runs in your shoes, but they should also be able to withstand lots of trips and many kilometers..
It should go fast. (FAST) The shoe is (even though it doesn’t look like it at first glance) actually extremely light. And that gives you as a runner the advantage that it can go fast. You will experience the shoes as light and responsive to that extent. And it really doesn’t matter if it’s on the road, in the forest, or on the more demanding mountain run.
