What to expect from Asics Fuzex

Asics is coming up with something new. That’s something I’ve been hearing for a while. You have to think in different ways when talking about running shoes, that’s what the industry says. I don’t know if I agree with that, but I do agree with one thing. With the Fuzex, Asics has made an attempt to combine some good things, and in my opinion they’ve succeeded quite well..
This running shoe, or training shoe as I would rather call it, is a very versatile shoe, which can of course be used as a running shoe (otherwise it wouldn’t be here) but can also easily be used for other types of training.
It is created for him or her with an active lifestyle – and Asics themselves put these headlines on the shoe: Run Anytime, anyplace, anywhere. They have set out to create a running shoe that could do a little more than just be a running shoe. Asics Fuzex is a multi-training shoe.
There are 3 headlines from me – 3 things I want to highlight as one of the first things about the FuzeX shoe

– Agility

– Versatility

– Good quality for the money

There is a super flexibility in the shoe and its entire fit around the foot (more on that further down in the Asics Fuzex test. But you really feel that the shoe follows your movements and allows you to move freely..
Versatility because this running shoe is not just a shoe to run in. In my opinion, you can easily wear it to the gym for other activities (without having the feeling of wearing a shoe that is too heavy and bulky).

Value for money. I really think the shoe does something good in that direction. But that’s usually how it is when I get a pairAsics running shoes in hand, I think you’ll actually be surprised by the quality – but in a good way. For the 1100,- which is the recommended price (maybe cheaper if you’re lucky) I think you get a lot of shoes / running shoes for the money.

My first run in the Asics FuzeX running shoe

I would like to start by emphasizing that we have evaluated the Asics Fuzex from a point of view called running shoes, but of course we also mention that it is now a multi-training shoe for the active lifestyle.

My first trip in Asics Fuzex was a trip to the gym, among other things to try out some of the things it was supposed to be able to do. Namely covering multiple training tasks. So the plan was a reasonable run on the treadmill, and then a little bit of other different training..
As I mentioned, I think the shoe is super cool to wear – it’s very mobile and free. Not that it skates around on the foot, but that it allows the foot to work, combined with a reasonable fit. If I were to pick up a pair, it would probably be a Nike Free. I know Asics might not be proud of it, but that’s where I am. I think there are some similarities between them.
Well, back to the trip to the center. It turned into a run of 8 kilometers. And I will say it this way, it can easily be used as a running shoe, but for me and my taste, I don’t think I’ll get beyond 8-10 kilometers in it. I don’t think it gave me enough shock absorption and support in the long run. But I would like to highlight the upper of the shoe again, it is super soft and flexible to wear.
But after the run I could keep my shoes on instead of changing (as I normally would have done). And I think it was really cool not to have to change, and for that matter, to have several pairs of shoes with me. Many people would probably think that you could easily train in your “regular running shoes” and there’s nothing to say that you can’t, but I just think that my “regular running shoes” are getting a bit clunky. I know it’s bordering on hysteria, but that’s how I think it is :-)
It can easily be used for both functional training and fitness training. It is super soft, flexible and very breathable to wear.

I will give Asics my pluses in that they have managed to design a running shoe or training shoe that I think can be used on the treadmill (or outdoors) but which also covers the fitness part. However, I think you can feel that the “running shoe spirit” in the shoe has disappeared a little. But that is probably very natural when you want to bring other aspects into the shoe.

Overall impression of Asics FuzeX

FuzeX is a completely new way of thinking and a new series from Asics. A series that also contains lots of cool running clothes. And the whole essence is that it should be light and flexible. And that’s also where my impression will be. It’s a super light and flexible running shoe, which I would probably primarily recommend for use in the city and for quick trips. As you can also see in Asics’ own video, it’s a running shoe for those of you who really like to challenge yourself with speed, jumps and other feats. The shoe is built to move more than just forward, you can easily work sideways in it, and thereby challenge yourself a little more.
Asics has also had the idea that the shoe, along with flexibility and lightness, should include a new sole structure – a structure that encourages pace and play. Extra push has been built into the toe, and really sensible shock absorption when landing into the shoe.
A running shoe that I could easily wear with a pair of jeans – because it’s actually very cool, and not so “running shoe-like”

Analysis Part 1: Who is Asics FuzeX aimed at?

Running style

It is clearly a running shoe for the neutral runner. I am a pronation runner myself, and one of the reasons I don’t want to go beyond 10km in this running shoe is its construction as a neutral running shoe. I can run shorter runs in it, because I think the shoe can handle that.

Fit

There is no doubt that I am a fan of the fit. Sits really well on the foot and provides good support around the foot.

In fine clothes

The solid surface. Asphalt and or treadmill. I would venture to say that you can probably run around the good city paths in this running shoe without getting hurt. The sole can handle it, and if you stay away from the puddle, the upper can too.

Price level

The recommended price is 1100,- A fair price if you ask me. You get a multi-shoe you can use all the time. For him or her who goes to the gym 1-2 times a week, combined with a little road running if necessary.

Weight

Men’s weight: 295 grams in size 43

Women’s weight: 233 grams in size 39

Type of shoe

Running shoes (mainly) And with a twist of training. As you have probably already read and understood, you can use the shoe for many activities.

Durability

It’s like any other shoe of its kind.- Asics DFA33, Nike Free among other things a little fragile in terms of durability. But if you plan to use it indoors for fitness, treadmills, etc. Then you don’t have to be nervous at all. That’s only if you demand a little more from the shoe, and run on alternating surfaces outside.

Drop

8mm. Gives you a good feel for the surface. And the fact that it is “only” 8mm is really cool when you need to use it as a training shoe and not a running shoe.

Analysis part 2: Structure

Outsole

Nice outer or outsole that can easily last and which also has good cushioning.

Midsole

THIS IS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS – Asics FuzeX is equipped with the new FuzeGel technology. A combination of the regular midsole and then GEL. It gives you extra push-off, and really nice shock absorption when you land. All of it is super light.
FuzeGEL is the entire length of the foot

Heel

As with all Asics running shoes, the heel area is super nice and gives you the support and stability you need. It keeps your foot in the right position.

Middle

Gives you optimal flex. Lots of agility and lightness.

Forefoot

Here you get help from the new midsole, you get extra help with the landings when you have to take your steps.

Upper part

Soft and supple specially designed mesh

Men’s and Women’s Asics Fuzex

This running shoe is of course made for both men and women. And as such they are similar in their construction, and of course you can’t compare weight etc. as more material is used for a men’s running shoe than a women’s running shoe. So exactly the same construction, support, functionalities etc. whether it is for a man or a woman.

Alternatives to Asics FuzeX

Take a look at Nike Free, Asics DFA33 or another minimalist running shoe which I would say this Asics FuzeX is a close relative to.

Summary
