Introduction
After reading several promising reviews, I bought a pair of Asics Gel Super J33 and then tested them from A to Z.
Asics, in its ever-innovative and goal-oriented spirit, has developed yet another addition to its collection of fast, lightweight shoes. The new shoe is called the Asics Gel Super J33, and it is part of Asics’ Natural33 collection, a collection of shoes whose primary purpose is to create an interaction between all 33 joints in your foot.
The Asics Gel Super J33 boasts its FluidAxis technology, which adapts to the geometry of the foot and helps runners with a tendency to mild to moderate pronation. In addition, the Asics Gel Super J33 has a 5.3 mm high heel-to-toe drop, which allows you to run even faster without compromising on the support of the shoe. Something even more important to mention is that this shoe is a lightweight shoe, weighing around 226 grams.
What’s new?
The Asics Gel Super J33 is actually the first shoe with this name. Despite the fact that there are no definite predecessors to compare the shoe to, it is often compared to the slightly lighter Asics shoe, the Gel-Lyte 33, which weighs 218 grams. In the Asics Gel Super J33, extra hard foam has been added to the medial half of the shoe to increase the shoe’s overall stability. It is therefore a lightweight shoe that is perfect for track running and general running at high speed, as its low weight offers high comfort, while also offering the foot good support and stability.

Price
The price of Asics Gel Super J33 is recommended at 1100 DKK. In comparison to other Asics’ top models, this one is relatively cheap. Despite the lower price, you must not doubt its quality, which is really high. Fortunately, you can typically find strong offers on Asics Gel Super J33, so you can find it cheaper than the recommended price. The competition is greatest online, which also means that this is where you often find the biggest savings.
Arch support and pronation control
The Asics Gel Super J33 is a stability shoe that offers great support for runners who have a flat or low arch. This can be determined by taking an impression of your foot. In addition, the Asics Gel Super J33’s pronation control is designed for runners who tend to overpronate slightly. Overpronation occurs when your foot rolls too much inwards when you run, which increases the risk of injury. However, if you are aware of this and invest in a stability running shoe that gives you the pronation control you need, you no longer have to worry about this.
Terrain
Asics Gel Super J33 is primarily aimed at runners who run shorter distances on terrains such as track, paved road or gravel. The shoe works really well on smooth and dry surfaces. If you are interested in trail running, this shoe is probably not the optimal one as you will not achieve the stability and comfort you need for this type of running. The agility of the Asics Gel Super J33 is reduced when you use it on difficult terrains, such as on wet and slippery surfaces.
Use
The Asics Gel Super J33 is ideal if you want to use it for normal and regular training. As part of Asics’ Natural33 collection, you can feel confident that you can run in your own natural way. An interaction is created between all 33 joints in your foot and your running style will therefore feel even more personal and natural. This shoe is very suitable if you want to run short to medium distances, such as 10K runs or quality training.
Durability
The Asics Gel Super J33 is made of some durable and hard-wearing textile materials. The outsole is made of AHAR rubber, which is very resistant to wear and tear. This ensures that the outsole does not break easily. However, I have noticed that the upper of my shoes is starting to show signs of wear despite only running about 1000 km wearing them. However, I can still use them easily, and the rest of the shoe still looks really good.
Size and fit
The fit of the shoe depends on the width of your foot. The fit of the Asics Gel Super J33 is for those with a medium-sized foot. This applies to the heel, midfoot and forefoot. It has a spacious toebox, so there is plenty of room for your toes no matter what.
The size, in turn, depends on the length of your foot from heel to toe. You should buy your Asics Gel Super J33 in the size you normally wear, and it is available from US size 4 to 19 in the men’s model and 5 to 15 in the women’s model.
Weight
The Asics Gel Super J33 is a lightweight running shoe that is primarily aimed at runners with a tendency towards mild to moderate overpronation. The men’s model weighs 226 grams, while the women’s model weighs 187 grams. It is rare to see a stability running shoe that is as light as the Asics Gel Super J33.
Heel height
It is very important to know the heel height of your running shoes as this is what tells you how much distance there is between your heel and the ground. The heel height of the Asics Gel Super J33 is 31.2 mm on the men’s model and 30.1 mm on the women’s model. This is a very average heel height, which means that you can only feel the surface you are running on.
Forefoot height
The forefoot height is the distance between your toes and the ground. The forefoot height of the Asics Gel Super J33 is 25.9 mm on the men’s model and 25.8 mm on the women’s model. This is an average forefoot height for a stability shoe like the Asics Gel Super J33.
Heel-to-toe drop
Heel-to-toe drop is another important factor to consider when buying new running shoes. Heel-to-toe drop is the difference between the heel height and the forefoot height, with a lower heel-to-toe drop resulting in a softer landing on the forefoot or midfoot. In the Asics Gel Super J33, the heel-to-toe drop is 5.3 mm in both the men’s and women’s models, which is a very low drop. This gives it really good support despite being lightweight.
Asics Gel Super J33s build
Outsole
The outsole of the Asics Gel Super J33 features a Guidance Line, which guides your foot in how to land while running. It also consists of the F.A.S.T sole, and gel material is used in the shock absorption, which provides a certain speed and energy in your run.
Midsole
It is in the midsole that we find the Asics Gel Super J33’s most famous feature and technology – namely the previously described FluidAxis technology. It extends from the outside of the heel to just above the arch of your foot on the inside, and gives more room for movement for the foot. In this way, it helps with overpronation. In addition, a thick layer of foam has also been added to the midsole, which gives the shoe more stability.
Upper part
The Asics Gel Super J33’s upper is also one of the highlights of this shoe. The upper is seamless, and is made of a lightweight mesh material, which is draped with a series of welded overlays.
Asics Gel Super J33s technical construction
To create a revolutionary shoe like the Asics Gel Super J33, it is necessary to incorporate a lot of technologies into the development. Some of these have been described earlier in that review, and I will touch on some of them again here:
The Asics Gel Super J33 incorporates FluidAxis technology in an attempt to address the problem of overpronation. FluidAxis is a collection of anatomically correct grooves that are placed around the joints of the foot. This is done in an attempt to make the shoe just the right amount of flexibility. In addition, this technology is also intended to allow the shoe to recognize and adapt to the movements and pressure of the foot, to ensure that the foot pronates more naturally.
In addition, the Asics Gel Super J33 also includes a number of F.A.S.T. technologies in the new development: F.A.S.T. ™Drop, F.A.S.T. ™ Heel, F.A.S.T. ™ Sole and F.A.S.T. ™ Ride. F.A.S.T. ™Drop is a low difference between the heel and the forefoot, which minimizes the weight of the midsole. This helps to optimize your speed when running. F.A.S.T. ™ Heel technology is a lightweight construction in the heel, which envelops your foot and at the same time reduces the structural weight of the shoe. F.A.S.T. ™Sole technology, on the other hand, is a material on the outsole that makes the shoe durable and optimal for use on hard and challenging terrain. F.A.S.T. ™ Ride technology refers to the presence of the slightly firmer Solyte midsole. This increases the responsiveness of the shoe and improves your run.

Asics Gel Super J33s men’s and women’s model
Shock absorption in the heel
Heel cushioning is important if a running shoe is to meet a certain standard. It is likely that your heel is the part of your foot that will be affected the most during running. In terms of heel cushioning, I rate the Asics Gel Super J33 as a 7 out of 10 on a scale of 1-10 in the men’s model and a 9 out of 10 in the women’s model. The heel cushioning is therefore of very high quality, and you can be sure that your foot is well protected during running.
Shock absorption in the forefoot
On the other hand, it is the cushioning in the forefoot that determines how much your forefoot is affected during both take-off and landing. I rate the cushioning in the forefoot of the Asics Gel Super J33 at 9 out of 10 for both the men’s and women’s models. This is a really high rating, and of course it just means that there is almost no protection for the forefoot.
Stiffness
The stiffness of the shoe determines how much control you have over both your speed and your running style. I rate the stiffness of the Asics Gel Super J33 at 2 out of 10 in both the men’s and women’s models. This is a very low rating, which means that the shoe is very flexible. Flexibility is good, but it’s important to find a middle ground to get the most out of your shoe.
Stability
The stability of the shoe allows you to take full control of your run, especially on uneven surfaces. In the Asics Gel Super J33, I rate the stability at 8 out of 10 in both the men’s and women’s models, which is undoubtedly very good for a very lightweight stability shoe.
Running shoes similar to Gel Super J33
There are also other running shoe models that are similar to the Asics Gel Super J33 in many ways. I will briefly describe some of them below.
The Asics Lyte33 is a running shoe that has a reputation for being an agile shoe with good cushioning as well as stability. The cushioning in the heel is especially worth noting, and it also has a firm forefoot, which is a bit too roomy, which was expected. All in all, it is The Asics Lyte33 shoe is a very flexible shoe, which is primarily aimed at running enthusiasts who want to have a fast time.
The Mizuno Wave Inspire is also a rare type of stability running shoe, as it only weighs 263 grams despite having really good cushioning and a flexible forefoot. This shoe uses Mizuno’s special technology, the Wave plate, which is a thin plastic plate that can be found under the inner edge of the heel. It is this plate that makes the Mizuno Wave Inspire excels on the stability front.
Last but not least, we have the Saucony Kinvara (I have reviewed the shoe here), which is an improvement on Saucony’s previous Kinvara models. Extra rubber has been placed in the outsole to optimize durability. In addition, a new technology called Pro-lock has been used, which gives the upper of the shoe a really good fit. In addition, the mesh material on the upper is also very durable, and the edge of the shoe has become more comfortable as a result of the use of a new and softer material for this part.
Summary
In my opinion, the Asics Gel Super J33 is definitely a shoe worth investing in if you are looking for a lightweight stability shoe. It has a stylish exterior, but does not compromise on comfort or stability. It is especially optimal for runners with a tendency to overpronate, and is especially useful on terrains such as track, paved road or gravel. You can use the Asics Gel Super J33 for marathons, quality workouts or short to medium distance runs. It has several different technologies incorporated, which overall improve the stability, speed and agility of your run. The low heel-to-toe drop means that you get a good feel for the surface you are running on. All in all, these features and technologies help to give you a more natural running profile.
On the other hand, there are also things that can be improved about the Asics Gel Super J33. This especially applies to the breathability, which is not particularly impressive. To ensure that the runner’s feet will maintain a comfortable temperature and will not sweat too much, better breathability is necessary. I hope that this will be improved in the next version of the Asics Gel Super J33.
