Asics Noosa FF – lightness and pace running shoes
You probably know it by name if you are used to running, or maybe even run in Asics running shoes. Noosa Tri is the name of the outgoing namesake. But don’t be fooled, the Asics Noosa FF has, apart from the name, not much in common with the old Asics Noosa TRI. But what can this new model do? We give you the answer with:

Why should you choose Noosa FF from Asics?
You should look towards an Asics Noosa FF for many reasons. But one of the reasons you should NOT look that way is if you think you are getting the same thing that the Asics Noosa Tri offered. It is now discontinued, and as previously mentioned has been replaced by the Noosa FF.
The Noosa FF from Asics is for him or her who is a big fan of lightweight running shoes. Whether you are a man or a woman, you will automatically enter a world of speed and pace by purchasing the Asics Noosa FF. This running shoe is built for speed and speed play.
You should choose the Noosa FF from Asics if you value a running shoe that just has to sit there from the first step. It does. It has a unique ability to fit well around the foot from the start. The Noosa FF is also written to be used without running socks – it must be said that our test is based WITH running socks – but that makes it a super flexible and very useful summer running shoe. If you don’t wear socks, you produce less heat, and that way your feet are less hot, and it is more comfortable.
All in all, Asics Noosa FF is a light and flexible running shoe for the “running enthusiast” who appreciates speed and loves a running shoe with a great fit around the foot.

My first experiences with the Asics Noosa FF
I was just like everyone else very excited about this running shoe. Honestly, I was a little confused about how Asics would choose to name a running shoe so close to an outgoing model (Asics Gel Noosa TRI) and at the same time announce that the 2 running shoes would be quite different in terms of construction..
Let me hasten to say that I still have that confusion. Asics is absolutely right, they are very far apart in construction and use, but the name sounds very similar. I can’t guarantee it, but my honest and completely unreserved prediction is that Asics will have problems with it.
But nevertheless, I was as excited as ever to receive the package with the new running shoes. And receiving a package of Asics running shoes is always a little more exciting. I can’t really explain why, but that’s just the way it is. Maybe it has something to do with Asics very, very rarely disappointing. It’s really just about what genius is next from their running shoe development halls.
Noosa FF was no exception, and although I have just raised a big question mark above about whether it was wise to call a running shoe that differs so strongly from its “named predecessor”, seen in that light, it may turn out to be a stroke of genius to have given it essentially the same name, in any case it is brave.
The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was this very different look on the Asics Noosa FF. We are working in appearance with a slightly higher version (not in construction – but in appearance). It is a running shoe that perhaps goes a little more in the direction of the fashionable look. But don’t worry, it is a running shoe, and it is a super nice running shoe.
When you take it out of the box, the first thing you will most likely think is “Wait, how light is it” and it is. Super light and flexible running shoe, but you will probably also notice relatively early on the divided perception of the upper. At the back it is really stiff, while from the middle and forward it is ultra flexible. Of course, this is related to the fact that it has to have the right support around the heel and all this, but I actually think it is something more significant in the Asics Noosa FF than in many other models.
The last thing I think you’ll notice as one of the first things is the very flat and almost “non-profiled” outsole. But don’t let that fool you. More about that further down in the review.

Asics Noosa FF – the first run
It has been mentioned before. But if you choose to run in the Noosa FF from Asics, you should not waste time “breaking in the shoe”. It sits there from the first minute, and you hardly notice it. It had a really good fit on my feet from the first time I put it on. I am aware that fit is individual, but I do not have a reputation for having the most ordinary feet, so if they fit mine, I think they will fit many..
The first run wasn’t one of the long ones. It wasn’t for several reasons. It was the day of the recovery run and I didn’t want to risk running more than 12-15 kilometers in these running shoes on my first run. I later found out that this is the limit for me, unless I really want to break a time record in a half marathon, so I think I could force my feet to do it.
But I didn’t actually record the time or length of my first run in Noosa FF, but my immediate estimate is around 7 kilometers. Even though the shoe is basically produced for speed and pace, I didn’t have much pace that day – it was on top of some hard training sessions, so my legs were a bit stressed and that’s why the first run was also a great success. The small fact that the shoe weighs nothing was a blessing for me on that tired day in March 2017. Being able to “saunter” off in a recovery run and hardly notice that you were wearing running shoes. It was a really cool experience, and thus also my first experience with Asics Noosa FF
Run freely and elegantly with Asics Noosa FF
This has subsequently led to a few more trips in the Asics Noosa FF. And on that basis I am able to give my opinion on where this running shoe will end up on my shelves. This may not sound negative, but when I have to sort through my shoes next time, I think this Asics Noosa FF will be sorted into the pile called “incredibly cool everyday running shoes”. It does not do so because it is in any way a bad running shoe, but only because it loses to some that are better. For the type of running that the Noosa FF is for, I first think that it is a bit stiff in its sole construction, and then I just find alternatives for my feet that solve the task a lot better.
But the subsequent runs in the Asics Noosa FF definitely showed me that we are dealing with a very light and airy running shoe. Unlike its predecessor, it does not have any pronation support, but still it is not that I think it seems “unstable”. It has given my feet a really good hold on all runs, but has been a bit too stiff in my opinion and for my running temperament. But I think that the fact that it has that structure will also be its strength. There will be a lot of people who will love the structure that the Asics Noosa FF has.

Size selection
There is basically nothing unusual you should notice when buying Asics Noosa FF in terms of choosing a size. It is completely normal in size, and since the shoe is neither completely tight-fitting nor in other ways has some things that can have an “impact” on size/fit, you should just buy as you usually do. I have also chosen size 43½ in Noosa Ff as I do in all others running shoes from Asics running shoes from Asics. Otherwise you can use our size guide
Remember, it’s always a good idea to check the centimeter measurement on your running shoes. However, manufacturers can’t change that yet. :-) 1

Analysis part 1: Should you choose to run in Noosa FF?
It is in this analysis part that you will learn more about whether Asics Noosa FF is a wise choice for you. This is where we will discuss the things you should pay attention to if you buy Noosa FF.

Which running style
As a starting point from Asics, the Asics Noosa FF is developed as a neutral running shoe. That is, for him or her who does not have any pronations when they run (falls inward on the feet). But in these modern times, it is not the only guideline for whether you can run in the Asics Noosa FF. It should be mentioned that the undersigned himself is a proven pronation runner but runs in the Asics Noosa FF. I do this partly to do this test, but I have also run in the shoe subsequently. At the same time, I could easily see myself running a half marathon distance in the Asics Noosa FF on a hot summer day..
It depends a lot on how your body and muscles are wired. I personally can switch between shoes, while I am also aware that it is an absolute no-go. If you have had problems switching before, stick to the recommendations from Asics. And that is that Asics Noosa FF is a running shoe for the neutral runner.
Fit
As a starting point, the Asics Noosa FF has a reasonable and nice fit. Of course, this is due to the fact that it was developed as a lightweight running shoe, and Asics has therefore saved on materials. For the sole reason of reducing weight. So you can still expect a little of this “Asics fit” that they are so known for, but you should definitely not expect it to be on the level of the Asics Nimbus or Asics Kayano..
You will notice that the upper over the feet is thinner (but therefore also much more breathable) and there is not the same sucking sensation around the foot.
- Size: Regular
- Heel: Normal, slightly high
- Midfoot: normal
- Forefoot: Slightly wide
- Shoe tip: normal
- Arch structure: low
- Shoe shape: semi-curved
Surfaces and conditions
You should stick to asphalt and or very firm and prepared forest paths. No point in challenging fate on more uneven terrain. The materials can’t handle that. You use the Asics Noosa FF in most types of weather. Sun or rain doesn’t matter. The sole of the Noosa FF is specially designed for better grip in wet conditions, and the upper dries very quickly.
Price level
Asics Noosa FF has a suggested retail price of 1250,- And as I mentioned earlier, it is a bit too high if I have to give my opinion and assessment. I think it should have started around 1000,- instead.
Weight of Asics Noosa FF
One of the mantras of this running shoe. The weight is perfect. It weighs 248 grams in a size 43½ (27.5 centimeters) And that can’t be said to be much.
For comparison, it can be mentioned that Nike Free RN Distance weighs exactly the same. So you can see how much difference there can be in developing lightweight running shoes.

Type of running shoe
Definitely a running shoe for tempo runs and competition. It is not a running shoe that should in any way be recommended for daily training. There is neither enough softness nor support in the shoe for that. .
Drops and heights on the forefoot and heel
Asics Noosa FF has a very common construction for a running shoe. It is developed with a drop of 10mm. This means for you as a runner that you get a “normal” heel roll when you land. It is not a running shoe that is made for either midfoot or forefoot running.

Analysis Part 2: Technical review of the running shoe
Analysis part 2 is the more technical approach to things. Here you will be able to read about the different features that the manufacturer has chosen to build into the reviewed running shoe. In this case, it is the Asics Noosa FF that we will be looking at in detail.
The outsole
On the Asics Noosa FF we have to divide the outsole into 2 units. There is a very special feature built into the classic outsole. And just to start with, it is made as an Asics Grip Sole with a good grip on the recommended surfaces. You will discover when you get the shoe in your hand that it is largely pattern-less. So no grip on challenging terrain.
The outsole is actually a bit stiff, and also a bit stiffer than I think is perfect. There is of course still a reasonable flex in the sole, but if I compare it to the Asics Nimbus (that was the one sitting next to me on my desk) it has a better flex in the sole, where the heel and midfoot disappear into the forefoot.
But the little extra thing about this outsole is that the forefoot has an extra coating of several components that makes it a little better on wetter surfaces.

Midsole
Now we finally get to why it’s called FF. The FF in Noosa FF stands for FlyteFoam. So that’s actually the name of the midsole material that’s been put in this version of the Noosa from Asics. FlyteFoam is the new material from Asics. It’s a much more dynamic and flexible material compared to, for example, SoLyte, which Asics has used in many of their shoes. There’s a longer and very complicated explanation behind it, but all in all, the essence of this change is that FlyteFoam is a lighter, but more durable and more shock-absorbing material. So more shock absorption but with less weight. The material doesn’t wear out as quickly, so there’s a chance that there will be more kilometers in your shoes. (depends on a lot of factors)
Heel
There is a very solid hold in the heel in the Asics Noosa FF, and if you feel the shoe from the outside, it is a heel section that is very hard and solid. This gives you the hold that should be in the heel. The lining in the heel is nice, but you should not expect it to be the same soft feeling as found in some training running shoes from Asics..
Personally, I think the heel is a little high. It’s maybe 5mm, but I think you can feel it. Not something that has caused problems, just something you have to get used to.
Forefoot
The forefoot of the Asics Noosa FF is covered with FlyteFoam, just like the rest of the foot. The forefoot has good flex, but as described earlier, it can seem a bit on the stiff side.
Upper part
The light and seamless upper makes it an incredibly comfortable running shoe to step into. A running shoe that you could actually use without running socks. The fact that the upper is so light and comfortable gives the runner a really good feeling when heat is created in the shoes. This has really opened up so that this heat can be conducted away from the feet.
Comparisons
We are moving in the neutral and light segment when we talk about an Asics Noosa FF. So that is probably where it would be most fair to look for some comparisons. It is obvious to mention the 2 lightweights from Nike, namely the Nike Free RN Distance and the Nike Free RN Flyknit. The comparison is mostly on the light running shoe without any pronation wedge. Because if you put your feet in the 3 shoes individually, you will be able to talk to us that these are 3 very different shoes in fit. But actually 3 shoes that cover the same segment.

Summary
I was very excited, and I still am. Can this Asics Noosa FF be allowed to take hold in the market? Has Asics shot itself in the foot by naming it the way they have? Yes, there are still many unanswered questions. But if I were to conclude on my running experience in the Asics Noosa FF, it is a shoe that I think can easily find its place in the Danish running shoe market. And I do so because the trend is very much towards very light, flexible and fast running shoes. Noosa FF wins in any case. It may not be a running shoe I want to wear every single time I run tempo, but I will definitely use it when I want a light running shoe with a little more support in the upper. Because in that I think it wins over a lot of other running shoes.
