Brooks Transcend for heavy runners

If you are a slightly heavy to very heavy runner, this is the running shoe for you. You get a mass training running shoe that has a shock absorption stronger than most shoes. The shoe weighs approximately 350 grams, which is also a good indication of how good the shock absorption is. For it to suit you, it naturally requires that you have a pronated running style – but heavier runners often do.

Transcend can be used with advantage during periods of rehabilitation. It is in many ways a very safe running shoe. You get a lot for your money. In addition, it is the ideal running shoe for long runs. The technological structure

Brooks Transcend comes with Biomogo, which is a 100% biodegradable material. Brooks is thus a first mover in terms of sustainability, which we naturally appreciate very much. Biomogo itself is part of the new highly effective cushioning.

The pronation wedge in the shoe is built with the Progressive Diagonal Rollbar. This gives you the optimal roll from heel strike to forefoot push-off. The Brooks Transcend also comes with the Caterpillar Crash Pad – a technology I absolutely love. Caterpillar makes the shock absorption depend on your weight, speed and stride length – in other words your load. If you have a lot of load on you, the shock absorption works more effectively.

Comparison with other models

Brooks Transcend is a true classic for the heavy guys. It can be compared a bit to the New Balance 1260, which is also for heavy runners with pronation. The difference between the two shoes is that the 1260 also supports runners with heavy pronation, where I would recommend Transcend for runners with light/moderate pronation running style.

In addition to the 1260 from New Balance, you can consider jumping into a New Balance 940. However, it is a slightly more stripped-down model compared to the 1260. Apart from price and quality, they are similar.

I haven’t personally run in Brooks Transcend for a long time. The few runs I’ve had have been beyond expectations. It’s a bit heavy running shoe, and that’s why I wouldn’t choose the shoe for your running training (I weigh around 80 kg). For men, I would recommend it to the +90 kg crowd.
