What does the Inov8 Roclite 295 offer?

It offers a lot of things. Inov8 is a running brand that is gaining more and more ground in the trail market. And they do that because they make better and better shoes. Inov8 specializes in the direction of trail runners. And this can be seen and felt in their products.

The Roclite 295 is a trail model from Inov8, a model that has a lot to offer. Below you can find a few of the really cool features you get in the running shoe.

  • The weight – you get a relatively light running shoe that you hardly notice you’re wearing when you’re out in the terrain. It gives a really cool experience that you don’t feel like the shoe is holding you back in any way.
  • Forefoot – there is a lot of room for the forefoot in this shoe. I mention this as an advantage, but it can actually be a disadvantage for some. And as I mention in the video below, it is also something I need to get used to.
  • Flexibility. Something I consider essential when moving in trail terrain. The running shoe must be able to flex between the many different surfaces and challenges that you encounter. There are times when you run on accessible and straight paths, only to have to run on a semi-sloping surface with a muddy surface in the next session. And I actually think that the shoe adapts well there. With a few exceptions, but I will get to that later in the review.

So what does the Inov8 Roclite 295 offer? A good experience in nature, and definitely a shoe I would recommend to others. But what can it do? Read on for a more in-depth test. Are there any scratches in the paint?

First test of the Inov8 Roclite 295?

First time in the shoe – uhhhh how happy I was. Is there anything better than fresh running shoes, and then the smell of them when you unpack them. It must be said that I had cheated a little this time. Roclite 295 is a shoe that I could easily find myself running around work in on a daily basis. And that’s what I tried this time – just wearing it a few times first as an everyday shoe. And to close it right away, the Inov8 Roclite 295 can easily be used for that. The only thing you need to be aware of is that the sole etc. is of course not built for you to walk on asphalt and other surfaces with it on a daily basis, so you will run into a problem with durability. Some may know this problem from a similar trail running shoe Salomon Speedcross – It is also used as an everyday shoe, but unfortunately it doesn’t last that long. But the comfort of the shoe as an everyday shoe, wow, I just have to say.

But back to the first run. A 6.6 kilometer run on a hazy and slightly damp autumn day. A perfect day for a trail ride if you ask me. In the running gear after work, into the car and off to the challenges.

The run starts on a regular and stable surface, a gravel path that takes me further into the terrain. The Inov8 Roclite 295 handles this challenge without any problems, and I actually manage to think about these 2 kilometers that the shoe is relatively light, and it actually sits okay on my foot. However, there is still the small surprise in the shoe that it is equipped, for me, with a very wide forefoot. And in the regular run out of the gravel path, I actually think that it is a little too much. But it turns out that I will be a little more happy with the wide forefoot later on in the run.

Because when I get out into the terrain, which in this case is a wet and damp surface around a lake, where it is both through a forest area, but also running on a bumpy field road, I discover that the shoe’s wide forefoot may not be so crazy after all. It’s hard to explain what it actually does, but it provides really good comfort, and a feeling that my feet are allowed to work more freely with the surface.

At one point I hit a slightly sloping surface with a bit of mud on top – of course this is a challenge for most trail running shoes, but it didn’t take long before my first slip happened. So on this first run in the shoe, the only real downside is that I had expected more from the outsole and its ability to grip the surface.

Roclite 295 from Inov8 – Overall impression

I have subsequently been out a few times in this trail running shoe – Inov8 Roclite 295 – and the impression as a whole has not really changed that much. The shoe fits perfectly every time, and I am happy every time I go out when I catch myself NOT thinking that I am wearing a pair of running shoes. That is a huge gift for the shoe. The fact that I do not feel my shoes means to me that the shoe is doing its job correctly, and gives me the best conditions.

A trail running shoe that I would recommend to anyone who asks, even though I think it has a few flaws here and there. It is also a running shoe that you can find at a really reasonable price around, and it is a trail shoe that covers many different runners. So a shoe that does its job as it should.

It is a shoe that I think will only fit better and better with each use. It is as if it fits better and better to the foot, and this optimizes the comfort each time. I think the durability of the shoe is actually fine, however, it should be mentioned that on the top of the shoe there is a little wear in the mesh lining that is on the top of the shoe. I can live with that, as I know that the mesh also allows my feet to work under better conditions.

I’ve probably been out in the shoe 5-6 times, on different lengths and on very different surfaces, and I actually think that my feeling tells me that it solves everything very reliably. Understood in the way that if I “just” need to have a quick walk through the forest, the shoe helps me with that, but if I want to go out and give it gas and burn my legs off in more challenging terrain, it can do that too. So in my eyes a trail running shoe that I’m happy to have in my wardrobe, it covers many of my needs.

What others have said about Roclite 295

Jan Andersen, Trail is my breathing space

  • I mostly run in the forest, and I actually use that as a breather. I really like getting out and getting a little different surroundings. The Inov8 Roclite 295 helps me make the trip comfortable and good. A running shoe I can definitely recommend to everyone else.–Jan Andersen

Dudde Larsen, Runs mostly trail in the winter

  • I bought these shoes because I wanted a pair of trail running shoes for my winter runs. And I haven't regretted it yet. The shoe works well, it gives me the effect I expected, so I can definitely recommend it..–Dudde Larsen

Other runners have also rated the shoe. In general, it gets good reviews from users. You can read more “international” reviews of Roclite 295 hos RunRepeat

Choosing shoe size

As we have mentioned before, the Inov8 Roclite 295 is a shoe that you should think about before choosing a size. Firstly, it is a little wide in the forefoot, which you should be aware of, but secondly, it is a little large in size. As a rule, you should expect to go half a size down compared to what you normally wear.

Men’s sizes: 40,5 – 47

Women’s sizes: 35,5 – 42,5

Advantages and disadvantages

Benefits

Light and comfortable

I think the shoe is light, and it's very comfortable to wear. And as previously mentioned, it's a shoe I could easily use as an everyday shoe (Knowing that it wouldn't last that long - but what can you do for the good comfort and experience)

Cool design

Doesn't say much about the shoe and its features. But everyone wants a shoe that looks decent, and Inov8 has come a long way in terms of the design of their shoes. And the Roclite 295 is certainly no exception.

Sensation of the surface

The feel of the surface is nice, really nice even. That the outsole has some flaws in max situations, that's what it is. but even the feeling when you run, and the way your foot hits the surface. it's cool, and a huge advantage. You really feel in control of your run.

Disadvantages

Slightly fragile upper

The thinness of the upper definitely has its advantages. But it is included as a disadvantage here, since we are talking about trail and terrain that can be unforgiving for your shoes. Therefore, it is a small disadvantage that the upper is a bit fragile.

Wide forefoot

The wide forefoot in the Roclite 295 - it is included as a disadvantage. It gives a good feeling at times. I personally had to get used to it a lot, and I don't know if I'm quite there yet, but there will definitely be some runners who will never accept that much space.

Shoelaces

I think I find that the laces are a bit slippery, and therefore can come undone easily. An observation that is easy to overlook, and a picture that this shoe doesn't have that many disadvantages.

You should buy the Inov8 Roclite 295 if…

  • you are looking for a very versatile trail running shoe
  • you don’t mind your shoes are smart and colorful
  • you want to have a really great feel for the surface when you run
  • you are a fan of quality

Analysis part 1: Who is the shoe aimed at?

Running style

Roclite 295 is a neutral running shoe. There are a lot of trail running shoes that are, because it can be difficult to stop pronation when the surface is so changing. And some would actually think it’s wrong to try. The foot just needs to work more freely in trail running.

I would say that I myself, if we take everything into account, am normally a heavy pronator runner, and I don’t feel any discomfort when I run in this neutral running shoe.

Fit

Inov8 Roclite 295 has a fit that you just have to be a little careful about. First of all, I discovered that you have to go down a little bit in size compared to what you usually wear. I usually wear 43 1/3 in for example Salomon Fellraiser and 44 inNike LunarTempo, But in this shoe I’m down and need a size 42 1/2. So you have to be a little careful there.

It’s also a really good idea to pay attention to the wide forefoot. I’ve mentioned it a few times in this review, but that’s also because I think it’s important. The shoe itself doesn’t have a wider forefoot, but you’ll still have a different sense of size when there’s so much room for your toes.

In fine clothes

Produced and intended for running mainly on trails, forest paths, rocky surfaces, etc. The sole has a good ability to embrace widely and bite into most things. Inov8 Roclite 295 can also easily handle the slightly more strenuous hardships when the surface shows teeth in the form of stones.

Roclite 295 is unique in the sense that it actually grips a wide variety of surfaces, giving you plenty of options for different terrains.

Price level

The recommended retail price for this running shoe is 1150,- And I would estimate that price in itself is a little on the high side. In my terminology, it should be placed around a thousand kroner note as a recommended retail price. Then it would be in line with the other shoes in this class that it will compete with. But it is also a running shoe that you can find in many places in both physical stores, but also in webshops. So don’t be afraid. My assessment is that you can easily find this running shoe for between 800,- and 1000,- on sale.

Weight

Men’s weight: 295 grams in size 42

Women’s weight: 268 grams in size 39

The name indicates the weight of 295 grams (men’s version) but the shoe is a great combination if you ask me. Because in the 295/268 grams you really get a good combination of durability, support, speed, etc. You can certainly find trail running shoes that are lighter, but then I believe that you start to slack on some parameters. This shoe does well on many parameters.

Type of shoe

I would describe the shoe as a lot of trail shoes. I wouldn’t be afraid to put on this running shoe if I were going to be on longer and more demanding trails. If you have an ambition for lots of speed on short trips through the terrain, then you can probably find a shoe that is better suited to setting pace times. but what makes this shoe perfect is that it can do a little bit of everything.

Durability

It’s always hard to make a trail shoe perfect in terms of durability. You always want your feet to have the best conditions, and you want the shoe to last as long as possible. The Roclite 295 has a mesh upper that is reinforced as much as possible, while still being breathable. And it has a toe guard that prevents you from damaging the front of the shoe. So all in all, the durability is probably okay.

Drop

Both the Asics Gel Noosa Tri for men and women have a relatively aggressive drop of just 10 mm, which is somewhere between the drop in a traditional running shoe and a natural running shoe. The low drop gives you a more forward-leaning running style, where you will land more on the midfoot and forefoot. This gives you a more dynamic and faster run. Perfect for race days when you need to run as fast as possible.

You need to be prepared to come down and run on the ground. A low drop gives you a good feel for the ground, but you also need to be prepared for that. If you are used to higher shoes, there will probably be an adjustment period.

Analysis part 2: Structure

Outsole

Made in a special mixture so that it is suitable for trails. The knobs on the outsole are made of soft rubber. A softness that gives you good grip on many different surfaces, but especially on wet surfaces. On the other hand, the soft rubber is also a little more fragile, and will probably wear out faster. but that is a price I think you have to be willing to pay for the security it gives to have a better grip on the surface.

Midsole

The midsole follows your movements. Built with Meta-Shank technology. Gives you optimal comfort and helps you stay free from sharp objects.

Heel

As with the rest of the Roclite 295, the heel is far down towards the ground, and once you get used to it, you’ll be super happy with that build.

Middle

A very ordinary midsole / midfoot. You get 3 zones SHOC ZONES. This gives you particular advantages if you intend to run longer trails with the Inov8 Roclite 295.

Forefoot

Gives me the freedom I need. I think you can react and turn in it. I think that is a sign that the shoe is flexible, and it gives you the opportunity to put your own stamp on how you want to run and move.

Upper part

Dirt-repellent, but still breathable mesh allows your feet to breathe. And then the toe protection that is laid over your toes is a gift. When you rush over sticks and stones, you can’t avoid that your toes will receive some bumps. and here it helps with the extra protection.

Men’s and Women’s Inov8 Roclite 295

Roclite 295 men’s running shoes

This running shoe is actually a running shoe that doesn’t make much difference whether you are a male or female runner. The above review is based on the men’s models in Roclite 295.

Roclite 295 women’s running shoes

If you as a woman want to run in this shoe from Inov8, then the difference based on the above test is not very big. There are of course some weight advantages, as the shoe for women is never or almost never as heavy as the shoe for men. But I also think you should consider and pay close attention to the width of the shoe, and especially in the forefoot. Women’s feet can sometimes be a lot narrower than men’s, so check the width before buying.

Find Roclite 295 on sale and in stock

With the great competition in the running shoe market, you will definitely be able to find this running shoe at a good price. Inov8 is a brand that is represented in many places soon, and that gives you as a buyer an advantage, since everyone wants their piece of the pie. This creates competition, and it is often (and unfortunately) the price that becomes the deciding factor. But it is an advantage for the consumer, so you have plenty of opportunities to save money when shopping for the Inov8 Roclite 295

Other Inov8 Roclite models

Roclite 280

Inov8 describes this shoe as their most all-round trail running shoe or adventure running shoe. It is described as a little brother or sister to the Roclite 295. So if you don’t want to go all out and have a 295, then the Roclite 280 is definitely worth a look.

Roclite 282 GTX

Again, it is probably best described as a little brother or sister to the 295. But you should be aware that in this model Goretex has been added to the upper. This gives you extra protection against moisture. Goretex is basically waterproof, but it also has the small drawback that the feet do not breathe 100% well the other way around.
