Introduction
If you are looking for a trail shoe that is designed for variable terrain and long distances, then the Inov8 Trailroc 255 is what you have been looking for. The Trailroc 255 has the strongest shock absorption in the series under the foot, allowing you to run longer distances on uneven and changing terrain. This shoe promotes a low heel-to-toe drop landing in the midfoot and forefoot, giving it a stable ride. With the Inov8 Trailroc 255, you don’t have to worry about anything when you are running on trails.
The Inov8 Trailroc 255 is available for both men and women and comes in a variety of colors. Due to its many new and advanced features, the running shoe can help you have a better running experience on trails. Through this review, you will be able to learn more about the shoe’s features and their function for trail running. I hope to be able to help you find the right trail running shoe for you.
What’s new in the Inov8 Trailroc 255
One of the new features included in the Inov8 Trailroc 255 is the Shoc-Zone technology, which helps increase your efficiency as a runner, due to its 6 mm heel counter.
To provide more protection underfoot, the Trailroc 255 has a Meta-Shank Gen3, which supports your foot while you run and protects your underfoot from rocks and bumps on the trail.
The Inov8 Trailroc 255, as the name suggests, weighs 255 grams and has a flexible construction.
The hard-wearing and durable outsole uses different types of rubber, which helps ensure strong grip on dry and rocky trails. Your run will be safer and more confident, knowing that your risk of slipping is minimized with the Trailroc 255.
Durability is an important component of trail running shoes,They have added a Tri-C component to the outsole. This will allow you to run many more miles without your foot or the outsole giving out.
My test and review of the Inov8 Trailroc 255
First impressions
I had readmore reviews before I tested the Trailroc 255 myself, and I was therefore quite expectant before I opened the package. The first thing I noticed about the Inov8 Trailroc 255 is its design. I think it has a cool and simple design, which makes it attractive to me. Although compared to other trail running shoes, it may look a bit big and bulky (it definitely is not). The first thing I noticed was the good fit of the shoe. Previously, I have felt that other Inov8 running shoes, has had a tight fit around the forefoot. The Trailroc 255, on the other hand, has a wider platform, which made me feel comfortable in the shoe from day 1.
After +450 km
After running many kilometers on various trails from vertical kilometers in Chamonix to narrow trails in Hareskoven, I am still completely satisfied with the Inov8 Trailroc 255. Its comfortable fit, and the wide forefoot, still hold up and have never given me any problems. In fact, I have found that on really long trips, I have had a better feeling in my foot, compared to other and more minimalist trail running shoes.
At the same time, I have nothing to complain about its durability, which I think has been exceptional. Even after the relatively many kilometers I have run, I have not been able to feel anything. Some of the rubber grips have of course become a little worn, but nothing that I notice while running. And I have definitely not taken extra good care of them. Trailroc 255 has come with everything. And now that we are at the outsole, that is also one of my “criticisms”. Inov8 Trailroc 255 is made for dry and rocky trails. Here it provides a super safe and good grip. On wet trails and surfaces, the outsole is far from as safe, and I have come home a couple of times with mud coming up the side.

Who is Trailroc 255 aimed at?
Price
Inov8 Trailroc 255 recommended price is 1095 DKK. However, the price varies greatly from store to store and it is often possible to find Trailroc 255 on offer or sale. To make it easier for you, I have found the lowest prices on the market in the price comparison, from running stores you can trust.
Running style
The popular trail shoe is primarily aimed at neutral runners. This means that your foot lands flat on the ground and stays there. This means it doesn’t roll in or out.
Terrain
With the Inov8 Trailroc 255 you can run on a variety of trails, from wider boulevards in Copenhagen parks to challenging and mountainous trails abroad. However, the running shoe is clearly best on dry surfaces, where its outsole grip is at its best.
Type and use
Inov8 Trailroc 255 is designed for regular training and longer distances. It has a thicker and more shock-absorbing sole, which makes it ideal for longer trail distances. Also for ultra-distance. With this shoe, you will undoubtedly be able to improve your running performance on trails. It is not easy, and the right pair of trail shoes can make a big difference. Although the Trailroc 255, compared to other running shoes, is not particularly heavy, it is not suitable for interval training and the like. The shoe is too flexible and heavy for that. If you are looking for a trail shoe that is better for interval training, you can take a look at its lighter brothers, Trailroc 245 eller Trailroc 235.
Durability
The shoe has a very durable outsole, which is always the most worn out part of trail shoes. The outsole has been made of three different types of sticky rubber, which ensures that nothing will happen to your shoe while you are running. It is very important that your shoe does not suddenly break, as you can then suddenly find yourself in the middle of a trail without a functioning shoe. That will not happen with the Inov8 Trailroc 255.
Size
Both the heel, midfoot and forefoot have room for normal feet. I have had problems with Inov8 running shoes being a bit tight around the forefoot before. However, this is not an issue with the Trailroc 255. In terms of size, I would recommend that you choose a size that is half a size larger than your actual size. This ensures that you get a perfect fit that will fit your foot perfectly and the shoe will be neither too loose nor too tight.
Weight
The Inov8 Trailroc 255 weighs 255 grams. It is the heaviest in the Trailroc series, but still not what I would categorize as a heavy shoe. However, it is more of a training and long distance shoe.
Heel height
The heel height of the Inov8 Trailroc is 22 mm. With a sufficient heel height, you get more comfort and protection in the heel. Due to the quite significant heel height (for trail shoes), you are sure that your heel is protected and will be comfortable, even on longer and challenging distances.
Forefoot height
The forefoot height is 16 mm. Just like the heel height, a higher forefoot height means your foot will be protected and comfortable while you run.
Heel-to-toe drop
The drop in the Inov8 Trailroc 255 is 6 mm. With such a low drop, the shoe promotes and encourages a more natural run, where you land more on the midfoot and forefoot. A more natural run allows your foot’s own muscles to work more and thereby become stronger. At the same time, a 6 mm drop gives you a better feel for the trail, so you can more easily keep your balance and avoid falls and crashes. This will help you increase your running efficiency and generally make running more fun.
Trailroc 255 construction
Outsole
The outsole in a pair of trail shoes must be durable and hard-wearing, as it is the outsole that is mainly exposed to wear and tear in trail running shoes. Since the outsole is naturally the most exposed part of the shoe. The Inov8 Trailroc 255 uses a high-quality outsole that can withstand wear from several different surfaces. Whether it is gravel, roots or sharp rocks. The outsole has an aggressive grip, which is designed to provide good support and secure grip on many different trails and different terrain. The material is called Trailroc, from which the shoe’s name is also taken.
The outsole also has a Tri-C compound which is one of several features that promote high durability. What the rubber component does is that it gives the sole better grip and durability. The outsole is created from three different types of sticky rubber, which gives the shoe its grip and durability on different terrains
The rubber materials are:
- Soft Sticky Rubber
- Hard Sticky Rubber
- Endurance Rubber
The combination of these rubber materials improves the overall grip of the outsole. This combination of different types of rubber is found in several of the best trail running shoes on the market.
Midsole
In the midsole, the Inov8 Trailroc 255 has an Injected EVA Foam, which is a very popular material in running shoes due to its fantastic shock-absorbing properties. Your foot will experience better support and feel more secure than in shoes without the same EVA Foam in the midsole. To protect against shocks or impacts up through the foot when landing and taking off, the Trail Roc 255 has a Meta-Shank protection plate, which extends from the midfoot and out to the forefoot. This provides extra shock absorption and protects your foot from damage and impacts from the surface.
Upper part
The upper of the Inov8 Trailroc is made of synthetic mesh covers, which weigh very little and are highly breathable. To keep the weight down to a minimum, lightweight materials are used in the upper. The lighter the material, the more breathable it becomes. The Inov8 Trailroc 255 also has the TPU Lacing System, which is a really good feature that ensures that the shoe sits tightly and firmly around your foot. No more slipping around.
Another feature to provide a better and more secure fit is the forefoot Met-Cradle Webbing, which is combined with the shoe’s 6mm Footbed. The Met-Cradle is very important in securing your forefoot and giving you a more comfortable experience with the shoe. The shoe’s Footbed also acts as an extra shock-absorbing layer that makes your underfoot feel soft and comfortable.
Technical construction
The technical construction and included technologies help to control how the shoe performs and feels for you. The Inov8 Trailroc 255 has a handful of features and technologies that have been used to create a comfortable, durable and high-performance running shoe. Below I will review some of the technologies that I have not described in depth earlier in the review.
Natural Fit
Its Natural Fit features are excellent as it allows your foot to move freely and naturally during the running motion. This provides better comfort and helps you throughout your run, especially over longer distances. Natural Fit is really useful for those of you looking for a perfect fit and support in your trail running shoe.
Shock Zone
One of the best features of the Trailroc 255 is its Shoc-Zone technology, which is used in the construction of the shoe. Shoc-Zone dramatically improves the shoe’s shock absorption and gives you long-lasting comfort on your run.
All the technologies that have been used in the construction of the Inov8 Trailroc have a significant effect, are performance enhancing and help you get the trail experience that you are looking for. The high performance combined with the effective support and shock absorption makes many trail runners prefer the Inov8 Trailroc 255.

At the same time, this means that the competition is very high and you will be able to buy Inov8 Trailroc 255 at cheap prices on offers and sales. There can be a lot of money to save by investigating the different options. I have collected the best and cheapest online running stores that sell Inov8 Trailroc 255 in the price comparator above. Here you can find the market’s best prices and offers on Trailroc 255.
Inov8 Trailroc 255 men’s and women’s
Shock absorption in the heel
With the Inov8 Trailroc 255 you get a very comfortable cushioning in the heel, which is rated 7 out of 10. Since it has a good height, this also goes a long way towards improving the cushioning. Although this shoe promotes midfoot and forefoot running, most runners still land on their heels, and it can be a painful experience if you run on uneven ground with lots of rocks and the cushioning is not strong enough.
Forefoot cushioning
Normally, there is more cushioning in the heel than in the forefoot, as most runners land on their heels. Although the heel should have the best cushioning, that doesn’t mean the forefoot shouldn’t have any cushioning. The forefoot still needs to have good cushioning because the forefoot also lands on the ground and you push off on your forefoot. In the Inov8 Trailroc 255, the forefoot cushioning is rated at 6 out of 10.
Stiffness
According to the stiffness of the Inov8 Trailroc 255, it is a less stiff running shoe. It is only rated 4 out of 10. This clearly shows that it is a more flexible shoe, which despite its high flexibility still maintains its good fit. Higher flexibility means that the foot has more freedom to move naturally.
Stability
Stability is Trailroc 255 is rated 8 out of 10. It is a really stable shoe that, through several of its stability features, such as the TPU Lacing System and Met-Cradle Webbing, ensures you a stable and safe run.
Similar running shoes
There are many different shoes, each with their own advantages, disadvantages and specialties. The Inov8 Trailroc 255 is a really good trail shoe for training sessions and long distances. This is because the shoe has a durable outsole and good support throughout the running movement. There are of course many other good trail running shoes on the market. Below I have listed and described similar running shoes that you can take a look at if you don’t think the Inov8 Trailroc 255 was exactly what you were looking for.
Saucony Peregrine
Another good trail running shoe with effective shock absorption and support is Saucony Peregrine trail shoe, which protects you on every run. Saucony Peregine has a significantly lower weight compared to previous versions and this ensures you a fast and safe run. The shoe’s redesigned upper has increased focus on a secure grip on the heel and protection on challenging terrain. Also an excellent choice for trail shoes.
Inov8 Oroc 280
If you are looking for a shoe for wet terrain and muddy surfaces, possibly even with snow, then you should look at the rough Inov8 Oroc 280 trail sko, which is built for the absolute worst weather and trail conditions. The Oroc 280 has the same heel-to-toe drop and much the same performance as the Trailroc 255, just with a more focus on off-trail and more demanding trails. The big difference lies in the shoe’s much more aggressive outsole.
Salomon Speedcross
Another good choice could be the popular and classic Salomon Speedcross, which is also a lightweight shoe, but differs from the Trailroc and Peregrine by having a more aggressive outsole, which provides a more secure grip on wet trails and in snow. Like all other trail shoes, the Speedcross focuses on a snug and comfortable fit, so you can feel in full control and in contact with the ground, no matter what you step on.
All of the aforementioned shoes provide good performance, and I have been very happy with them all. Which shoe will be best for you must be a matter of taste and personal preference regarding surface, fit, weight, etc.
Summary
Inov8 Trailroc 255 is a trail running shoe that has a lot of great features that will help you in your daily training and possibly in competitions on longer trail distances. The shoe promotes stability, support, comfort and safety. The shoe weighs just 255 and has a good flexibility that gives your foot the freedom to move naturally. You will be very positively surprised by the extremely comfortable fit and good shock absorption, which I am sure will make you want to run longer and more often.
I had only good experiences with the Trailroc 255. I felt safe and protected on many different trails. However, I could have used a rougher outsole, so the grip on wet surfaces would be a little better. However, that is a parenthesis in an overall very positive experience with the Inov8 Trailroc 255.
