Inov8 X Talon 190 – versatile competition shoe

The Inov8 X-Talon 190 is slightly lighter than the Inov8 X Talon 212 (22 grams), making the 190 the competition shoe of the two trail shoes. It is cut into the leg so that you get minimal support and only very light shock absorption. When competing, you want to have as light a trail shoe as possible.

For those who want to take offroad running to the extreme level, the Inov8 X Talon 190 is the perfect match. The low weight of 190 grams is met by reducing comfort elements and focusing on practicality. You get a shoe with DWR technology. To make it low-practical, it is simply just water-repellent materials. In addition, the shoe comes with a heel-to-toe drop of only 3 mm. With such a low drop, there is ample opportunity to train according to natural running principles, where forefoot running and fast, light take-offs are the key to success.

The necessary details about the Trail running shoe

The Inov8 X Talon 190 has a sister named the Inov8 X Talon 212. It was the 212 that started the wave, with the 190 coming on the scene later, as there was great demand for a lighter version of the X-Talon series.

The fit is very tight so that you get the most out of every step. Materials are synthetic to save weight and the shoe comes in all sizes from EU 37 to EU 48 at a few selected Inov8 specialist stores.

Grip and other goodies

The grip on the shoe is particularly good. This is a Talon sole. It is quite rough and really good for running in wet terrain. So if you have to go through muddy sections, but also have areas on single trails and the like, then this shoe will be the ideal choice for you.

X-Talon weighs a mere 190 grams. Half of a running shoe like the Asics GT, which is not among the heaviest. There are advantages and disadvantages to having such light shoes. The advantage is less weight, better acceleration and better feel for the surface. On the other hand, there are disadvantages such as increased risk of injury due to the less shock absorption that is always present in this shoe, compared to others. That being said, you should remember that the shoe is for trail running and not asphalt running – therefore the shock absorption is in no way as important.

All in all a really good trail/off trail running shoe for rough terrain with a fast, light and versatile take off. Buy this shoe if every second counts for you and coming in second is not an option. This is a winning shoe.

If you haven’t had enough, you can read a very detailed review of the shoe here. It’s in English and maybe a little dry at times. But if you want to dig into the details, there’s a lot to learn.
