I personally train a lot in the Inov8 X Talon 212, which is waterproof and perfect for early spring or autumn in Denmark. In the winter I use the Inov8 Oroc 280.

You get a super light running shoe for off road/trail running that has a perfect combination of minimal weight, stability and grip in every step.

In addition, the shoe is durable, can handle all cuts, abrasions and other external as well as internal stresses.

Last but not least, the shoe is just lightning fast.

6mm drop in the Inov8 X Talon 212.

With its 212 grams and a 6mm drop from heel to toe, the Inov8 X-Talon is among the favorites. The shoe is made as a unisex model in synthetic materials and is available in all sizes from EU 37.5 up to the large men’s sizes around size 47.

The fit of the Inov8 X-Talon 212 is precession. This means tight, close and very reactive to your own movements. This gives you enormous advantages when you are out in the trail terrain, where you need to be able to maneuver quickly from side to side on the small paths or slightly shabby grass areas.

If you want an even lighter shoe, but in the same series, you should take a look at the Inov8 X Talon 190 – the sister of the 212. It is a little lighter (10%). Several enthusiastic trail runners use the 212 for training and the 190 for competition. Let me be honest and say that it is not necessary to have both models, as in many cases they resemble each other.

The 190 also has a lower drop of only 3 mm, so if you are new to trail running and natural running, the 212 is undoubtedly the right choice. It must be said that the 212 can easily be used by even the most skilled runners – and it is frequently seen among them.

My and others’ experiences

I have been running with the Inov8 X Talon 212 for the past several years. I have very good things to say about the shoe. First of all, you will find that the shoe is incredibly light and made with practicality in mind.

The shoe is windproof and partly waterproof. If you have to go through water holes and the like, the shoes will naturally get wet. Since the shoe is made of synthetic materials, the shoe will not absorb much liquid. For the same reason, it will not affect your performance that much if your feet get wet.

An American runner has made a 500km test af X-Talon 212.It is quite classic not to do a review after a few single trips, but also to see how the shoe performs over longer distances.

My experiences with the 190 versus the 212

I myself am a fan of the 6 mm drop, which fits me nicely in the 212. It also means that I can use the shoe for daily trail training and not have to worry too much about injuries and the like. Keep in mind that when you train trail running, the surface is usually much softer than traditional asphalt running – so it doesn’t matter that there is very limited shock absorption in the shoe.

I’ve been introduced to the 190 a few times. I would primarily use it for competition and fast runs, as it fits very snugly and is very performance-oriented.

Overall, I would give the Inov8 X Talon 212 a really good rating. It is a formidable trail shoe.
