Overview of the article about Mizuno
I will now review Mizuno as an overall brand and express what I think about the brand.
I have trained in many of their shoes, and therefore have a great deal of knowledge about their shoes.
I’m not interested in their clothes or other equipment – only their shoes. I criticize them and give my opinion on the brand.

Personlige favoritter
I have trained in a variety of different shoes.
My absolute favorite is Wave Rider for neutral running style. It reminds me a bit of Asics Gel-Nimbus 20 and Nike Air Max 90. It’s a good heel landing running shoe, with quite soft cushioning and a great fit. The price is fair and the shoe lasts longer than the average running shoe I’ve tried.
I was also very excited to try their first natural running shoe, Sayonara. I’m a bit divided on the shoe, and don’t think they do as well with their natural running series as Nike (Nike Lunar + Flyknit) and Asics do (Gel 33 series).
Personal experiences
Selection
The selection is slim. Unfortunately.
Durability
I find that their shoes last 6-800 kilometers. That’s a bit less than what I experience other brands do. In general, I think the durability is not quite top notch.
Fit
The shoes fit comfortably. I don’t notice any other discomfort. It’s a little here and there (some models give me blisters), but other than that I’m very satisfied with the fit of Mizuno shoes.
Price rent
The price range is normal for running shoes. They have premium running shoes and they have value for money running shoes. They don’t have any shoes in the cheapest range, but it’s still rare shoes I can recommend you buy.
Size
It is my impression that all their normal training shoes come as “true to size”. Compared to your normal everyday shoes, I recommend you buy these shoes ½ size larger. Size-wise, they are very similar to the other brands.
Advantages and disadvantages
There are pros and cons to all running brands. I’m personally not a fan of Mizuno, but it may be a brand that suits you well. I’ve tried to list the various pros and cons of choosing shoes from them compared to other brands.
Benefits
You know what you get.
Good, hard and responsive shock absorption
Disadvantages
The product range is not deep enough
Boring design
Lack of focus on running
Comparable brands
In fact, there is not one brand that resembles Mizuno too much. Personally, I have the impression that Mizuno is a little brother to Asics. When I say little brother, I think of a brotherly relationship with many years between them. In my opinion, Asics running shoes are much better developed.
I don’t want to compare Mizuno to Nike and Adidas, which also has a wide portfolio of sports products for many sports. I think Adidas and Nike deliver much better looking and more well-made products than Mizuno.
Mizuno technology
Like all other running brands, Mizuno wants to signal that their shoes are unique and built around a lot of technology that none of us understand what it means. I have selected a few technologies and explained to you what they do and what they do differently from similar technologies from other brands.
Wave plate
Wave is a plastic material that runs through the midsole of your Mizuno running shoes. The technology is most visible in the heel area where the shape forms a series of waves, like those you know from the ocean (hence the name).
The purpose of Wave is quite ingenious. When you land, you expose your feet, knees and hips to extreme pressure. The function of Wave technology is to distribute the pressure across the entire Wave plate. If you land on your heel, you will also receive the impact from your forefoot. It is a shock absorber. The technology is similar to Nike Air, Asics GEL and similar technologies from other brands.
In addition to shock absorption, Wave gives you stability. The material is easy to bend lengthwise, but difficult to bend widthwise. This prevents you from sliding from side to side when you run or land crookedly.
All Mizuno shoes have Wave, however the extent of use varies greatly. Typically you will find a lot of Wave in the heavier running shoes, while the lightest and fastest shoes have a limited amount of Wave. In fact, you can even find shoes with double Wave for extra support.
U4ic
All running shoes, that use EVA have some “ingredient” they use to shape the cushioning in their own way. All the big brands use EVA, including Mizuno. The EVA midsole is part of the cushioning.
What is special about Mizuno shoes is that the landing can feel a bit hard. Compared to a shoe like, for example, Nike Flyknit Lunar or Asics Gel Lyte33, Mizuno shoes are generally very hard. This does not necessarily mean that there is less shock absorption. The advantage of harder absorption is that energy loss is typically less. However, Adidas has shown that even very soft shoes can provide much better shock absorption than hard shoes..
The advantage of a firm landing is also a more responsive take-off, where a soft landing typically limits you a bit. Imagine running on sand (soft landing) versus running on asphalt (hard landing). Running on sand is comfortable, but you don’t run nearly as fast as on asphalt. Running on asphalt is more efficient.
U4ic (pronounced Euphoric (why always the fancy names?)) is an alternative to the previously used AP+. U4ic is a bit softer and weighs less, in fact 30% less according to Mizuno themselves. However, it is always difficult to hold them to these numbers, and it is difficult to measure the effect yourself. U4ic is not nearly as soft as the previously mentioned technologies mentioned from other brands.

Why are Mizuno running shoes popular?
If you want the best running equipment, then Mizuno is the right choice. If you buy equipment from this brand, you can be sure to get some of the best technology. The brand has its origins all the way back to 1906, when they started producing sports equipment, sports shoes and clothing.
Originally they didn’t have a super sharp focus. However, that was something they quickly came to. Today their unequivocal focus is on running training and equipment for it. Personally, I’m not the biggest fan (especially not of their appearance). I think there are other brands that deliver better quality. Why they don’t focus on one sport I don’t understand.
Mizuno running shoes for men and women
Mizuno men’s
The product range within the men’s running shoe category from Mizuno is relatively thin compared to similar brands. The brand is very niche, but I wouldn’t call Mizuno a running specialist if they didn’t have a broad portfolio of running shoes for the different types of runners. Alternatively, they should focus on one type of runner and have a broad portfolio of running shoes for them.
I don’t think their range is deep enough. If you overpronate, you have very few options. What if you overpronate a lot in the forefoot? Which shoe should you choose (if that’s the case, you need to have your fingers in Asics GT 3000)Mizuno men’s shoes have no choice here.
Mizuno women
If the men’s selection is slim, I don’t know what to call the Mizuno women’s running shoe selection. There are few shoes for women (fewer than for men). On paper, there are actually almost the same number of shoes for women and men, but as a woman you will have a bit more difficulty finding Mizuno shoes, as few stores carry Mizuno women’s running shoes.
Difference from men and women
The vast majority of the above models are produced for both men and women. Selected Mizuno running shoes are also made for children. Whether you buy a pair of Mizuno men’s or women’s running shoes, you should know that the technology behind the shoes is the same. The change is in the form of a different fit, where women’s feet are usually narrower than men’s. If you, as a woman, have a very large foot and need new running shoes, you can easily jump into a men’s running shoe..
Mizuno running shoes on sale and discount
Always buy your shoes on sale or on sale. They are out there and I will keep you updated with special offers, so check back later.
Mizuno Offers
There are always great deals on Mizuno running shoes. If you want to buy the shoes on Mizuno deals, the internet is a good place to start. I personally have the best experiences finding Mizuno deals abroad, especially in England. It is the fewest Danish running stores that have noticed, as Mizuno tries to keep the price level as high as possible (and Danish online stores tend to run cheap prices). That is why Mizuno has excluded many Danish retailers.
Mizuno Sale
Buying Mizuno running shoes on sale is no challenge. Follow one of the retailers and you will quickly find that you can buy previous years’ models (or models that are soon to be replaced) at sharp sale prices. You can also easily find dedicated Mizuno sales on running shoes, where stores are getting rid of all Mizuno. Because the brand is not bigger than it is (it is a hardcore niche brand), the prices are typically high, but when there is a sale, the sale is really good.
The Danish running stores are good at holding sales, but if the Danish ones don’t have satisfactory prices, you can try one of the English running stores or German running stores.

With more than 500,000 likes on Facebook, their Facebook page is a good place to start. In addition, Mizuno is active on Instagram and other social media. Here you can find/follow Mizuno online:

I follow Mizuno through iloebesko, where I am inspired by their innovative technology. Unfortunately, there are sometimes a few updates with non-running related things (golf for example).
