Introduction
Before you invest in a pair of running shoes, it is important that you have familiarized yourself with the specific shoe’s features and characteristics. By having greater knowledge in the field, you can better assess what is best and most suitable for you. Therefore, it is a good idea to read this review of the Mizuno Wave Inspire, in which I will tell you about my experiences with the shoe and list both advantages and disadvantages. You will also learn more about the shoe’s features and technologies.
What to expect from the Mizuno Wave Inspire 14
Wave Inspire from Mizuno is a running shoe that combines a relatively low weight with an extremely high level of comfort. That is not being changed. That is also why a running shoe like the Mizuno Wave INspire 14 can be the obvious choice for those of you who want to do volume training, or want a running shoe with high comfort for your half marathons or even marathons.
The Mizuno Inspire 13 has now been replaced by the Inspire 14, so what does that mean, what can you expect?
You get a better upper in the Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 compared to its predecessor, the Inspire 13. It has become more supportive, more breathable and actually a bit more durable. All in all, you can probably say that the upper in the Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 has become a bit more modern. It fully lives up to so many other running shoes now. The upper still has a good hold on the foot when you run. And that applies to both 5, 15 or 35 kilometers.
A better heel construction ensures better flexibility, and thus a smoother run. And it helps to increase comfort when we’re talking about running over many kilometers.
Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 is still a running shoe for the pronating runner. It is a running shoe for volume training (many kilometers). The shoe is best on hard surfaces (asphalt, road, concrete) And you still have a drop in the shoe of 12mm. (24mm/12mm)
As the name still indicates, the Wave technology is still an essential part of the construction of this running shoe. A plate that is placed in the midsole, and which helps with the correct and most smooth execution of every step you take on the run.
Hvad var nyt i inspire 13?
The Mizuno Wave Inspire 13 is the latest addition to Mizuno’s Inspire series, and was created in conjunction with Mizuno’s 10th anniversary. I was very excited to try this shoe from the start, as I think it offers something extraordinary.
This running shoe’s midsole cushioning is 30% lighter than the midsole cushioning used in previous versions of the shoe. The new technology is called U4ic, and with the help of this, the shoe gets incredibly effective cushioning that creates a smooth transition between steps. In addition to the good cushioning, U4ic also helps to give the shoe better durability.
In fact, this technology is the only really new thing added to this shoe. However, it is also incredibly important, as it provides runners with a lot of benefits. However, I expected that we would be presented with more new features and technologies, but that may be in the next version.
Advantages and disadvantages of Mizuno Wave Inspire

Who is the shoe aimed at?
Price
The price of the Mizuno Wave Inspire varies a lot, as you can often find the shoe on sale with a really good discount. The recommended price is however 1300 kr. There are many running shoes on the market that are affordable, and this shoe is one of them.
Arch support and pronation control
The Izuno Wave Inspire is a stability running shoe that can provide many benefits to runners who tend to overpronate moderately. Overpronation is something that you need to be aware of and take care of to avoid injury. With this shoe, you can get the support you need.
It is important to be aware of your pronation type and the type of arch support you need in order to choose the right shoe. If you are not aware of this, you can quickly regret your choice. If you want to avoid this, take some time to research your own needs, and possibly ask for good advice and help from professionals.
Terrain
This shoe is ideal for terrains such as paved roads and gravel, as well as track running. Its outsole is made of a carbon rubber material, which gives the shoe a good grip. This can be very helpful if you are running in the rain, where you don’t have to worry about falling or slipping.
Use
The Mizuno Wave Inspire is used for normal training. It gives your foot the support it needs, and the shoe will therefore be helpful in helping you boost your performance. It is not a running shoe that is primarily intended for sprinting, where you will benefit most from a shoe that is even lighter. However, it can still be used for the purpose, as it is not a heavy shoe.
Durability
As mentioned before, the implemented U4ic technology helps to increase the durability of the Mizuno Wave Inspire. The technology provides a lightweight midsole, and also provides optimal shock absorption. In addition, the carbon rubber material on the outsole is very durable..
Size and fit
It is very important that you know the size of your heel, midfoot and forefoot to ensure you get a shoe with the optimal fit. The Mizuno Wave Inspire is suitable for runners with an average size midfoot and forefoot and a narrow heel. Compared to other running shoes, the fit is therefore a bit restrictive, as it will be too tight for many people. In terms of size, you should go for half a size larger than your normal size.
Weight
The Mizuno Wave Inspire men’s model weighs 264 grams, while the women’s model weighs 210 grams. Being a stability running shoe, it is actually at the light end of this category, which is one of the reasons why it has become so popular.
Heel height
The Mizuno Wave Inspire men’s model has a heel height of 32 mm, as does the women’s model. This is a perfect heel height as it will protect your feet from any objects on the ground that would otherwise be an obstacle in your run.
Forefoot height
In addition to protecting the heel from objects on the ground, it is also important to protect the forefoot. The Mizuno Wave Inspire men’s model has a forefoot height of 20 mm, and the women’s model is also 20 mm. Again, a completely optimal height.
Heel-to-toe drop
The heel-to-toe drop measures 12 mm in the Mizuno Wave Inspire men’s and women’s models. This is a relatively high heel-to-toe drop, which is one of the things I don’t particularly like about the shoe. This means that you have to be extra focused and alert to avoid injuries, especially in the heel. Many people prefer a low heel-to-toe drop, as this makes you feel closer to the ground and therefore it will feel more like running barefoot.
Shoe construction
Outsole
The Mizuno Wave Inspire’s outsole is made of a very durable carbon rubber material, which gives the shoe good grip. The X10 technology is also placed in the heel for the same purpose.
In addition to this material, the outsole also consists of Blown Rubber, which is located in the forefoot. This material gives the shoe very good shock absorption and ideal shock absorption both during take-off and landing. This is essential if you want to avoid injuries.
Midsole
The midsole is made of a lightweight material called U4ic. This makes it very durable, but also contributes to the good shock absorption, which will all contribute to a really good running experience. In addition, you will also find the Smooth Ride technology, which provides a smooth transition from heel to toe. This feature also reduces both the acceleration and deceleration of the foot.
In the midfoot area you will find the extended Wave plate, which is the most distinctive feature of the Mizuno Wave series. It is incredibly important that a shoe can ensure that your foot is not subjected to twisting when you run, and this is exactly what the Wave plate does. In this way, you are protected from ankle injuries in particular.
In addition, the midsole also features a ventilation system called Intercool. This system keeps the moisture in the shoe under control, helping your feet stay cool and dry. This is very important for overall comfort, and you will avoid blisters and other skin irritation.
Last but not least, we have Gender Engineering, which adds gender-specific features to the shoe. The men’s model needs a wider base, while the women’s model needs extra flexibility.
Upper part
The entire upper of the Mizuno Wave Inspire is covered in AIRmesh, which provides great breathability. This also counteracts bad odors. In addition, it has an OrthoLite Sockliner, which creates a healthy environment for the foot. It helps to counteract moisture inside the shoe and is also anti-microbial.
In addition, Dynamotion Fit technology is used to provide a comfortable fit. The forefoot area is built around a flexible material, while the edge along the heel is made sufficiently stable that it will not bend under the pressure of the foot.
Mizuno Wave Inspire’s technical construction
By reading this part of the review you will learn a lot about exactly what the shoe can offer you. Especially runners, who know an incredible amount about different features and technologies, and what importance they have for the overall function of the shoe, attach great importance to this, so that they can be absolutely sure that it is the right shoe they choose. The MIzuno Wave Inspire is a stability running shoe, which is mostly aimed at runners with moderate overpronation.
As mentioned before, the midsole is built around U4ic technology, which is 30% lighter than the AP+ technology previously used in Mizuno shoes. This feature provides good cushioning and shock absorption.
In order for the shoe’s upper to work as well as possible with the foot itself, Dynamotion Fit technology has been implemented. This technology allows the foot to move properly in the shoe, which together with Smooth Ride technology means that the running experience will feel effortless and fluid, and that your movements will feel natural.
The Intercool ventilation system keeps the foot at a comfortable temperature. AIRmesh is used for the upper, which also contributes to breathability and comfort.
In the heel we find X10, which is the most durable carbon rubber material Mizuno has ever used. This ensures good grip, so you will feel safe while running – even in the rain.
One of the best things about the Mizuno Wave Inspire is that both the midsole and outsole are constructed differently in the men’s and women’s models, so that the specific needs of each gender are met. There are needs for the different anatomies, and this is done through the Gender Engineering technology, which was developed with this in mind.
These above features are what make up the Mizuno Wave Inspire’s technical construction, and as is clear, this is a shoe that appeals to a wide group of runners, all of whom will benefit from the shoe in their own way.
Sales and offers in Wave Inspire
Many people are interested in investing in the Mizuno Wave Inspire, but not everyone feels that it is within their budget. Therefore, it is good that this shoe can be found both online and in physical stores at many different prices. There are often good discounts and offers for pick-up, and if you are persistent in your search, you will most likely also be able to find the Mizuno Wave Inspire at a really good price.
Mizuno Wave Inspire men’s and women’s models
Shock absorption in the heel
I rate the cushioning in the heel as a 5 out of 10, while I rate it as a 7 out of 10 in the women’s model. The cushioning in this area is average, but good enough that you don’t need to worry.
Shock absorption in the forefoot
Just like the heel, the forefoot also needs shock absorption and protection from impacts in order to run without pain. In the Mizuno Wave Inspirer, I rate the shock absorption in the forefoot as 10 out of 10 in the men’s model and 7 out of 10 in the women’s model.
Stiffness
In terms of stiffness, the men’s model gets a 2 out of 10 while the women’s model gets a 4 out of 10. So it’s not a particularly stiff shoe, but on the contrary very flexible. If you’re looking for a very flexible shoe, this is a good solution, but you should be aware that the chance of ankle injuries is greater with this.
Stability
I rate the stability of the shoe as 7 out of 10 in both the men’s and women’s models. Because it is so stable, you will be able to control all the movements of your foot while running. This also means that both take-off and landing will feel very controlled.
Comparable running shoes
The biggest advantages of the Mizuno Wave Inspire are its low weight, its shock absorption and the support the foot gets from the shoe. If you still don’t think the Mizuno Air Wave is the right shoe for you, there are many similar models on the market.
In terms of weight, Saucony Ride the heaviest of the running shoes I will present in this part of the review. It also has the lowest rating in terms of stability and a low heel height. But despite these things, it has really good shock absorption in both the forefoot and the heel. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about shocks and pains wearing this shoe.
Another shoe that is similar in many ways to the Mizuno Wave Inspire is Adidas model Supernova Glide. This shoe has the lowest weight and the lowest heel-to-toe drop of the 4 shoes I mention here. Despite its low weight, it also has very good shock absorption in both the forefoot and heel, and compared to other models, it has a lot of different properties, all of which make the shoe very stable. However, if you talk about stiffness, this shoe is not very impressive. Therefore, you must again be careful here if you want to avoid injuries.
Last but not least, we have The Nike Flyknit Lunar running shoe, which is also similar in many ways to the Mizuno Wave Inspire. This shoe has the highest heel-to-toe drop of the 4 shoes, which is one of the reasons why some runners will prefer a different model. In addition, it is not a particularly stiff shoe. However, you can definitely trust this shoe when it comes to stability and shock absorption. It also has a very low weight.
It is important to remember that you actually have an incredible number of models to choose from in general. In addition to the three shoes I have mentioned, besides the Mizuno Wave Inspire, there are many other models that also have some really good features. In order to choose correctly, it is therefore, as mentioned before, important to know your own needs.
Summary
The Mizuno Wave Inspire is a stability running shoe aimed at runners with moderate overpronation. It will give you a really good running experience, especially due to the exceptional cushioning and stability. It has many different technologies and features, as well as an affordable price.
I would definitely recommend this model, as it covers an incredible number of the needs that all runners have in their running shoes. The foot gets really good support and the movements feel natural at the same time. I even estimate that the shoe was instrumental in my being able to optimize my own performance.
If you are one of those who have already tried this running shoe, I would recommend that you write a review of it. This will be very helpful for others who are looking for new running shoes and are considering investing in the Mizuno Wave Inspire.
