New Balance 860 – classic all-round running shoe
The new and previous models are suitable for runners with a tendency to overpronate, whether it is mild or moderate. The NB860V5 comes with a number of updates, especially the upper. The effect for you is less discomfort as the shoe is made of fewer materials. The New Balance 860 V5 is a value for money running shoe
At 290 grams, the New Balance 860 is a classic mass training running shoe. The ideal runner has a normal / heavy weight and uses the shoe for training and competition running, primarily on asphalt and gravel. The shoe can of course be used on many other surfaces and for other purposes as well. If you are into lighter running shoes, you should take a look at the New Balance 890, and if you overpronate heavily, you should take a look at the New Balance 1260, both of which have recently come out with a new model.

A few words about the technology
Price-wise, the New Balance 860 V5 is a value for money running shoe. It is in the middle price range. It is a brand that is known for stable shoes that can handle many kilometers. What makes the shoe last? The technology used.
What does drop and profile mean on a running shoe?
For many years, there hasn’t been much emphasis on the drop on running shoes or the profile on running shoes. Instead, there has been a lot of talk about running style. The new wave of runners and brands are focusing a lot on drop and profile.
“Drop” is a measure of the difference between the height of the heel and the height of the forefoot sole. The drop on the New Balance 860 is very large. This means that you will automatically tend to land more on your heel. This can be good or bad. For runners who take 1-2 runs a week, this is something you don’t need to worry about too much.
The profile of the running shoe is a measure of how thick the sole is. A thick sole, all other things being equal, means better shock absorption. Conversely, a flat sole, all other things being equal, often means better control and maneuverability. If you run on asphalt, and very straight – without many small accelerations – then you shouldn’t worry too much about the profile.

What can the running shoe “do”?
The New Balance 860 comes with ABZORB Crash Pad. It is a technology that gives you the necessary stability. Among other things, it is this technology that ensures that you do not fall inward, as pronating runners are known to do.
The upper comes in breathable materials. This gives your feet a good climate. A good climate means fewer blisters. Something we all appreciate.

What are people saying about the New Balance 860?
New Balance’s collaboration with Shoefitter in Canada is often well-received in shoes. They have created a shortreview of the shoe here. Additionally, they go over the transition from the previous New Balance 760 to the new 860. It’s worth reading if you’re an enthusiast and just love this shoe.

Own experiences.
I think the New Balance 860 is an excellent all-round running shoe. I have listed my personal pros and cons of choosing this shoe below. But the bottom line is that this shoe is for the runner who wants a really good, solid and durable running shoe, which you can probably find at a really reasonable price somewhere.
Advantages:
- Good for runners who primarily run on asphalt and want to ensure sublime shock absorption
- Good if you run 10-30 km weekly
- I think it’s a great all-round running shoe – however, I would only use it on very hard surfaces.
Disadvantages:
- 290 grams = medium weight. Some people will wish they cut 20-30 grams off.
- Conservative – development progresses slowly
