About Nike in general

Nike is among the strongest brands in the world, if not the strongest sports brand at all?

In this article, I will give you an overview of all Nike running shoes, and guide you through videos and overviews to choose the best shoe for you. I will compare the different models side by side.

Nike is many runners’ favorite running brand. Personally, I think Nike has always had the coolest design of their running shoes. Watch the video or scroll down to be guided to your new shoes from Nike.

I have made a huge guide to buying Nike running shoes. I have tested an incredible number of running shoes, and in this article I try to give you an overview of Nike, sharing personal experiences, but also the general opinion and the opinions of other people. Use the table of contents to find the most relevant content.

Personlige favoritter

My latest purchase wasThe Nike Flyknit Lunar+ shoe for neutral running style. I have done my first few runs in the shoe and am satisfied. I use the shoe for running on asphalt, and preferably at a brisk or fast pace. I have a slight tendency to pronate myself, which is why the Flyknit Lunar is not really the best fit for me. I need a bit more arch support in the form of a pronation wedge.

For my everyday runs I use Lunarglide andZoom Structure. I like both shoes and run about the same number of kilometers in them. At the moment I don’t have a favorite for trail running, as I don’t think they make good enough shoes for that type of running. If you love running in the forest, terrain and the like, I personally recommend Inov8 orSalomon as a much better alternative to trail running.

Nike is the world’s largest running brand

Nike is the world’s largest sports brand, so we would also like to point out that they are actually the world’s largest running brand. Nike is big in many sports, including football, fitness and of course running..
Nike running shoes, running clothes and general running equipment are sold in all sorts of running stores and sports shops around the world. In Denmark, Nike is of course also a big running brand, but I don’t think they are the best-selling running shoes when measured by number. But there is also a little anecdote in the industry that says that Nike sells more sports equipment in the city of Berlin than they do in all of Denmark combined. That just puts it all into perspective, and it’s understandable why Nike can boast of being the world’s biggest sports brand.

Personal experiences with Nike running shoes

I was a loyal Asics runner for many years, but in the last few years I have really opened my eyes to Nike running shoes. I am a bit ambivalent about them because on the one hand they make some excellent running shoes, but on the other hand they also have lines of shoes that I would not call running shoes. For me personally it is easy to distinguish between good and bad shoes, but I can see that Danish runners sometimes run in the wrong shoes. I want all runners to have the best possible experience with their running training, and I don’t think Nike always contributes to that. I wish they were better at specifying what is running shoes and what is casual shoes and fashion shoes.

Update 2018……

Nike is big, it’s very big. I’ve written before that they could probably do a little better at telling the story of each running shoe in their range, so that the shoe was the right one when the customer went out for a run. Previously, it was a bit unclear whether we were dealing with a running shoe, a fashion shoe or a casual shoe. And that’s not a desirable scenario for a runner..
Personally, I see that the process has been cleaned up. Now you have a much clearer line for your running universe, and the running shoes from Nike have become much more streamlined for the individual user.

I’ve never been a big fan of the classic running shoes, such as Structure, Pegasus, etc. from Nike. Not that they’re bad, because they’re definitely not, but this classic mainstream running shoe for the road, there are better alternatives on the Danish market for me. But having said that, I really want to praise Nike for thinking outside the box when it comes to running shoes. We all know their Nike Free concept, which is still on the market, and which has now effectively become a running series and not a leisure series. So it just supports my theory that Nike has become better at differentiating between running and leisure.
I think you should take your hat off to their great courage. At least it is my experience that Nike is in no way afraid to revolutionize runners and think in new directions when it comes to technologies. Nike Free is one thing, but also think of the Lunar concept, Vapor Fly and VaporMax. Nike is not afraid to try new things, and in the vast majority of cases it is a success. Personally, the Lunar concept has entered my running heart with clogs on. I really think Nike managed to come up with something that could be used for something, and for my own part, it at least lured me out of my beloved New Balance running shoes and into a Nike Lunar running shoe.

So when I look at Nike as a running brand today (2018) I see a much more streamlined concept. It’s a big stretch (and maybe a bit wrong) to claim that Nike didn’t have a streamlined concept before, because of course the world’s largest sports brand did. It was just a bit hard for a running geek like me to see the line in their running program. Did they want to sell running shoes or did they want to sell casual shoes. That’s changed now. Fortunately.

Selection

Many would think that you will find a large selection of Nike running shoes, but I actually disagree. As you can see on this page, the number of shoes they have within each genre (overpronation, neutral/supination and natural running) is actually limited. In addition, there are almost no Nike running shoes for, for example, trail running or Nike barefoot running shoes. This supports my previous point that Nike is in several respects a sports brand with a strong focus on fashion. They apparently do not want to move into the most nerdy genres, but focus on asphalt runners, who also make up the vast majority of all Danish runners, whether they are 5 km runners or marathon runners.

If you ask trail runners what their opinion is on Nike running shoes, I’m sure they’ll criticize the brand and be extremely dissatisfied with their narrow product range. However, for those of you who run in cities, on gravel paths, asphalt and pavements, they have an excellent selection in my opinion.

Their range includes a number of old classics, such as Nike Air Pegasus (neutral running style), Zoom Structure (overpronation) etc. but also many new models are being shown, for example Nike Lunaracer or Nike Flyknit Lunar (lightweight neutral running shoe).

Durability

Unfortunately, I find that lightweight running shoes from Nike for men last very few kilometers. I have asked a number of different female runners and they thought the same about women’s running shoes from Nike – at least the light and fast shoes. However, this is not something that Nike is alone in. I see the same trend with other brands.

Your normal everyday running shoes that you use for volume training last reasonably well. For me personally, it’s typically the upper that breaks first.

Fit

I am speaking personally here. I think Nike running shoes fit well. They have a good fit, and it is clear that a lot of focus has been put into developing running shoes that fit comfortably. However, I can feel a big difference in the comfort of cheap Nike running shoes and expensive Nike running shoes. In my tests and reviews I also make it clear how this difference is expressed. Personally, I prefer to run in premium shoes in all ways rather than value for money shoes, but it depends on who you are.

The newer models of Nike shoes fit very tightly on the upper. The mesh is stretchable, but personally I think it fits a little too tightly, at least on the first few runs. In my reviews, which for me are only for Nike men’s running shoes, I always mention how the fit is in the specific shoe. It varies a lot from model to model. It is my impression that lightweight Nike shoes often fit significantly tighter than their heavier counterparts. everyday running shoes, which makes sense to me. Race running shoes should fit snugly to give you the best possible response and give you the most efficient run, while everyday running shoes have more of a focus on comfort and cushioning.

Nike shoes and sizes

I think the density and sizes are very similar to those from Asics running shoes. Adidas shoes are a bit narrower than Nike running shoes are. Generally I would say that you should get running shoes half to a full size larger, and the same applies here.

If you want to convert sizes from different brands, check my size calculator out. If you just need to know what your EU size corresponds to in US, UK or CM, you can take a look atmy Nike size chart.

Price rent

At Nike you will find shoes in different price ranges. Despite the fact that Nike is such a big brand, I do not think their running shoes are expensive in any way. On the contrary. I think that in many of their models you get a lot for your money.

Nike+ is very valuable

If you like to keep track of your training progress and compare yourself to other runners, take a look at Nike+. Nike+ is available in a variety of running shoes (those with a + in their name). You can also purchase special Nike+ products to help you optimize your running training.

Even though I have a heart rate monitor to train with, I have used Nike+ alone for periods with great satisfaction. It’s a wealth of options for what you can see and compare to your own running times. It’s fun, but I can personally quickly end up spending far too much time on it.

The mastodons of Nike running shoes

Within Nike running shoes, as with many of the other major running brands in Denmark, there are also some big behemoths that we see time and time again on the road.
Nike models Structure, Lunarglide, Pegasus andVomero are all models that have been on the market for a lifetime. At least that’s how it feels. And these are running shoes that Nike keeps producing because there are buyers for them. And the buyers only come if the product is okay, and it is. Of course, it’s okay when it comes from the world’s biggest running brand.

When we talk about giants in the Nike running shoe category, we can hardly avoid Nike Free running shoes. A shoe that has taken a bit of a turn. Like the other models above, it has now been on the market for a very long time. In contrast to some of the models above, Nike Free has gone through a huge development. Nike had to make the hard choice to change Nike Free. Because at least in Denmark it was the case that Nike Free was not sold as running shoes but as leisure shoes. And a lot of pairs were sold.
Nike are brave, and that’s why they’ve had the Nike Free concept on the running side through a development, so the whole concept has become more towards running. And I can only say one thing. That really suits that running shoe. Now it can do something that no one else has managed to achieve yet. Nike Free RN is a fantastic concept.

nike+

Advantages and disadvantages

There are advantages and disadvantages to all brands. I have listed here some of the advantages and disadvantages that I believe characterize Nike.

Benefits

Delicious design

I believe that many people buy Nike shoes because of the design. They are great shoes. I have to admit I agree. Normally I focus 100% on functionality, but I can't help but get excited when I see the different fashionable color combinations they come up with.

Excellent fit

Compared to other brands, I find the everyday running shoes from Nike to be very comfortable. Typically, there is not much focus on the mesh in the upper (it is often thin anyway), but it gives me freedom for maximum movement and good ventilation. My feet are always comfortable in Nike running shoes / nike shoes.

Disadvantages

Narrow product line

If you are a versatile runner who uses shoes in many different genres, you shouldn't be sure that you will be able to find Nike shoes in all cases. At least not a shoe that is on par with what other brands perform.

Too little focus on product development

I always follow the launch of new models, and I must admit that I find the updates from Nike from time to time to be a bit lackluster compared to the technological developments from, for example, Adidas.

Confusing approach to running shoes

My opinion about finding your way around the jungle of Nike running shoes is that it is almost impossible. And that is said by someone with an okay knowledge of Nike and their development of shoes for the runner. For the general user, I think that names and models can be very confusing.

Who is the brand aimed at?

Nike is for the fashionable. I love the brand because they always deliver great shoes that stand out in sharp contrast. Of all my shoes, Nike shoes are without a doubt the best looking. In addition, they are primarily intended for asphalt running.

As I mentioned earlier, Nike is not for trail runners. They have very limited offerings in this genre. I hope and believe that as the awareness and popularity of trail running increases, they will keep up with the production and development of new models.

Also, I wouldn’t buy shoes from Nike if I’m focusing on natural running. They have the Free series, which are not running shoes, but leisure shoes (if you ask me). It’s OK to use them if you run 5 km 1-2 times a week, but if you run longer, I would personally recommend you switch to a different running shoe.

nike running men

Brands that remind

I have done many video and text reviews of Nike sports shoes, and it is clear to me how they are in many ways similar to Adidas.Aside from the fit, which is a bit different for Adidas shoes, both brands are fashion brands. I love the design of both brands’ shoes. It’s always fashionable and if you’re seen wearing a pair of shoes from one of the mentioned brands, you’re rarely completely wrong.

Both Adidas and Nike also focus on the mainstream runner who wants to look smart. This is also reflected in their clothing lines, where they are always at the forefront when it comes to color combinations and where the cuts in the running clothes are.

Most popular item numbers from Nike

I decided to make a list of the most popular Nike item numbers. The first part of the item number indicates which shoe it is, while the number after the hyphen indicates the color code of the shoe. There may well be several shoes that have the same number in the first part, but where the color differs.

Why people choose Nike

There are many good reasons to choose one of the world’s biggest brands. First and foremost, you know you’re getting the best quality running shoes you can possibly imagine. With the market dominance they’ve had, there’s no doubt they’ll continue to shape the running market for years to come.

Nike running shoes for women and men

Nike men

Nike

There are a number of cool Nike men’s running shoes on the market. I’m a man myself, and I’ve tested and reviewed most of the shoes. I often do it with video. I have to admit that I’m a big fan of the design choices in Nike men’s shoes. I’m rarely disappointed.

Nike women

Women’s running shoes from Nike usually come in a variety of colors. Now, I’m a man myself, and I don’t buy women’s Nike shoes, but I have to admit that the shoes are extremely attractive to girls and women. I often hear female runners mention how Nike women’s shoes are so cool and cool because they often come in many different color combinations. In addition, it is often mentioned that the cuts in Nike women’s running shoes fit perfectly, and in a way that other running brands can’t keep up.

The difference between lady and gentleman

The difference is usually in the fit, as women have a somewhat narrower foot than men. However, this is not something special about them, as Asics and the other brands also make gender-specific products. Furthermore, it is something that varies from model to model. For example, Nike competition running shoes are very tight in their fit for both men and women.

In addition to the sizes, the weight is different, but that almost goes without saying. The smaller a Nike shoe you have, the less it weighs. Since women’s feet are often smaller than men’s feet, it is logical that women’s shoes are lighter. In addition, women’s shoes require less shock absorption since women are generally somewhat lighter than men.

Nike – quality, accusations and trendsetters

Nike running clothes and shoes are produced of the highest quality. They have been criticized for using child labor in Asia, but fortunately this is something they have corrected. All product lines they launch prove to be a success. Nike Free – a wave that took the Danes by storm. Since then, Adidas and New Balance have tried to imitate, but it’s not something that has been 100% successful. Nike is the trendsetter, and they will probably be for at least another 30 years. Are you a fan like me? Take a look at Nike website – they present their products better than any other brand.
