Nike Air Pegasus 37 – this is new

As we’ve probably written several times, the Nike Pegasus is probably one of the most iconic running shoes on the market. We’ve reached the 37th version, so we’re dealing with a shoe that has 36 predecessors. It’s a hell of a story.

Nike Pegasus has always been developed for neutral runners. It is Nike’s best-selling model overall, which is of course also due to its long lifespan. But the long lifespan also only comes because it is a really good running shoe. Now the change is happening from version 36 to 37. And it has certainly not become worse, quite the opposite if you ask me. Below we have highlighted the most important things for you.

The first upgrade I would like to mention is the upper. It has become thinner, lighter and more airy. This has also reduced the weight of the Nike Pegasus 37 compared to its predecessor.

The biggest upgrade in the Nike Air Pegasus 37 this time is the midsole. The shoe has gone from the classic ST foam to now being built on the REACT foam from Nike. If you were happy with the Nike Pegasus before, I think I can promise you that you will love it a little more now. The Nike React midsole is both more responsive, lighter and generally just a better experience. So a little has been taken out, but put back in! By that I mean that the full Air cushioning along the entire length of the foot has disappeared. But in return, the air cushion you have in the forefoot is now three times as large. This provides a much better running experience, both during landing and take-off.

The outsole of the Nike Pegasus 37 has also been updated. In fact, inspiration has been taken from the popular Zoom models here. The outsole is now built on 2 different types of rubber. This provides better grip and push-off.

If you’ve been a fan of the Nike Air Pegasus, I think you’ve just become a little more of a fan. Because the shoe has received some pretty significant updates this time around.

Nike Air Pegasus 36 – can it beat the Nike Pegasus 35?

So we have once again reached the point where we have to write and speak a Nike Pegasus version number. An exciting process every time this happens. Because what updates has Nike made, and are they useful updates, or are they “indifferent”?”
The Nike Pegasus 35 has been a popular cousin among runners, so there is definitely something to live up to for the Nike Pegasus 36.

The Nike Pegasus 36 is not a wild revolution. In fact, it is limited in terms of updates compared to the Nike Pegasus 35. but that is perhaps a good thing, and at the same time a proven thing from Nike. Because the Pegasus 35 was very well received, and as mentioned, has been a bit of an audience favorite.
But there’s room for a few small adjustments here and there. And if you ask me, all of these adjustments give you an even more unique running shoe. Even if they’re just small adjustments.

To start with the biggest one, and the one you might use the most. The Pegasus 36 has become a bit lighter than its predecessor, the Nike Pegasus 35. We’re not talking 50 or 70 grams, but a small 18-20 grams. And that’s primarily due to some of the other updates that Nike has made to the shoe.

If we start from the foot and its behavior inside the shoe, then this is where the Nike Pegasus has primarily changed. The tongue (the one that sits over the instep and protects you from, for example, laces) has become smoother and thinner, and therefore also lighter..
The insole in the heel has been optimized, so that you now get a better grip on the foot and better support.

There’s also been a bit of a visual makeover. If you look at the Nike Pegasus 36, you’ll notice that the Nike branding (the Swoosh) has been moved a little bit. Not a huge deal if you ask us, but now the Pegasus 36 looks more like the other Nike running shoes currently being released..
The upper (seamless upper of course) has also received another minor update in addition to this visual change. The setup/structure has been slightly changed, and this also helps to give you an overall better “perform” in the shoe.

This is what you should notice in the Nike Pegasus 35

When you say Nike running shoes, you almost have to say Nike Air Pegasus. It’s a shoe that’s been on the market for as long as I can remember, which makes perfect sense, since they’re now launching the 35th version of the Pegasus. Yes, you heard that right. The Nike Air Pegasus 35 is now on the market. It’s a bit crazy and a bit of an achievement to be able to keep a running shoe on the market for so many years.
You only do that if it’s a classy running shoe. And you have to give that to Nike, they have placed Pegasus at the absolute top of the most sought-after running shoes worldwide. The shoe was already popular 35 years ago. A lot has happened since the Nike Air Pegasus was launched as this half horse and half bird running shoe, where the revolutionary thing was the half air cushion. From the very beginning, the Pegasus from Nike has indicated movement, speed and the feeling of flying.

But what’s so new now 35 years later. What can this 35th version do that will replace the Nike Air Pegasus 34, which itself had also become a great success. Both the Pegasus 33 and Pegasus 34 have been great sales successes for Nike, so we’re probably not the only ones who are very excited about what the Nike Air Pegasus 35 actually offers. What’s new, and what’s optimized compared to the last one.

When we talk about the Nike Air Pegasus 35, we also talk about how it is a huge thing for Nike to constantly keep the Pegasus up to date, and thereby also keep its place in the market. Because as mentioned earlier, it belongs to the absolute top. But you try to blow it in the neck, and therefore Nike constantly tries to optimize. That has also happened on the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 35.

Better upper in the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 35

Nike has tweaked the already very soft and flexible upper without seams a little. The upper is made of two-layer mesh material, and the lower lace hole in the shoe has been removed to make the shoe itself and the material even more flexible.

Better and more precise ankle support in Pegasus 35

A few corrections have also been made to the heel and heel cap of the Nike Air Pegasus 35. So that the heel cap has been moved slightly, and in short, it provides a softer experience for runners who use the Nike Pegasus 35.

Pegasus 35 has become lighter

Optimizations and updates to the entire shoe have meant that the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 35 is approximately 20 grams lighter than its predecessor. But that’s without compromising on comfort and the overall impression. It must be said to be a unique update. There are probably no runners who wouldn’t buy a lighter running shoe if the comfort remains the same. At least there is an opportunity to optimize the speed of your runs now.

But in addition to the above advantages (if you see these optimizations as advantages), Nike has generally chosen to stick very closely to the structure and trend that has been in the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 34. It was very well received, and they have otherwise set out to optimize from that starting point..
The Nike Air Pegasus is still this lightweight and very flexible neutral running shoe, which has always had a reputation for wrapping your foot in a fantastic way. Creating lots of energy with every step you take. And it still is. The drop is 10mm Nike Air Pegasus 35, we predict a great future for it.

What was new in the Nike Air Pegasus 34

Nike is arguably the most well-known running brand among runners around the world. The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus is now facing yet another generational change. The Nike Pegasus has been around through thick and thin, and the hugely popular version 33 is now facing a replacement for the number 34.
This new Nike Air Pegasus 34 comes with a number of new features, but the foundation is clearly the same. And if you are a “pegasus runner” then you should not “fear” the same revolution from number 33 to 34 as there was, for example, when Nike launched 33 instead of pegasus 32.

The Nike Air Pegasus 34 builds on the great foundation that the Pegasus 33 has created. People have embraced the 33 and it has ended up becoming a really popular running shoe. That’s why there are also lots of repeats on the technology side from the Pegasus 33 to the Pegasus 34.

Nike Air Pegasus 34 is still the good soft and fantastic performing mass training running shoe. In other words, the running shoe you choose when you need some good long walks in your legs. But nevertheless, Nike has managed to reduce the weight by approx. 8-10 grams in version 34 of Pegasus, which means that you are actually dealing with one of the lighter mass training running shoes. And that opens up some more possibilities in our eyes. The fact that a running shoe becomes lighter certainly means that you can run faster. So in our eyes, Nike Air Pegasus has moved in the direction of a faster combination running shoe.
This ties in very well with the fact that Nike launched their little project years ago about getting under 2 hours in a marathon. Back when this project was launched, a choice was made that the running shoes from Nike that were part of this Breaking2 project should be lighter – but of course with the same performance. And we think that the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 34 clearly bears this mark.

The new measures on the Nike Pegasus 34 are mainly focused on the upper. The upper on version 34 has become a lot softer and smoother than it was in the Nike Pegasus 33. This means that you will definitely notice a clear improvement in comfort and in the shoe’s ability to breathe. The Nike Pegasus 34 still has Flywire cables to support the lacing system and comfort, but where on the Nike Pegasus 33 they are visible on the side of the shoe, they are now hidden away in the upper. It doesn’t have much importance, but it does give the Nike Pegasus a clearly cooler look.
The laces have also been updated on the Pegasus 34. So now you should be free from them coming loose on their own..

So all in all, you definitely have something to look forward to. The Nike Air Pegasus 33 has become the Nike Air Pegasus 34. You definitely won’t be disappointed. We were happy with the 33 version, but the new 34 is even more exciting.

It was new in the Nike Air Pegasus 33

The Nike Air Pegasus is in version 33. That alone should indicate that you are evaluating a fantastic running shoe that has been on the running market for a very long time.
Throughout all its seasons, it has helped set the style and direction for top running shoes.

The Nike Air Pegasus 33 is a newer Pegasus in the range, and here there are some really good updates for you as a runner. The focus is on more cushioning and a better and more correct grip.

More shock absorption in Pegasus 33:
An extra cushioning pad has been added to this version of the Pegasus. This means that you get a softer feel, but you also get a faster take-off and a faster roll-over. All of this helps to enhance the experience when you run in your new Nike Pegasus 33.
The extra cushioning in the forefoot is Zoom Air. Fantastic shock absorption with a really good effect.

More grip:
There has been a minor update to the outsole, but it is certainly not an insignificant update. The outsole is now shaped and designed to give you better grip on the ground, thereby also promoting and optimizing your take-off. A small detail, but with a huge impact.

Apart from that, all the great updates from the Pegasus 32 are still included in the Pegasus 33. It’s full of the ultra soft and seamless upper that just wraps around the foot. The drop is the same, and all in all, it’s just a fantastic running shoe that’s just gotten 10% better. Look forward to a really good experience in the Pegasus 33.

The flexible upper reduces weight and provides effective ventilation, as is the case in a number of other Nike running shoes.

My experiences with Nike Air Pegasus

First impressions

I’ve never run in Nike Air Pegasus before, so I’m completely new. I expected a nice running shoe, but when I open the box I’m even more positively surprised. It’s a really nice shoe, with some cool design details and great colors with a strong vibe. Of course I jump into the shoes without waiting and expected a comfortable fit, but I’m still pleased with how good the fit is.

Nike Air Pegasus video

I was going out for a quiet recovery run and thought this would be perfect for my first run in the Nike Air Pegasus, which is known as one of the best training running shoes. I was not disappointed. I had a really comfortable run and the immediate feeling is good. It is a running shoe with comfort and a good running feel in the forefront. I had expected the shoe to have more powerful shock absorption, but that is not the case. Instead, the shoe gives a good and powerful response.

After countless kilometers

I usually keep a strict track of how many miles I’ve run in a given running shoe, but I stopped doing that with the Nike Air Pegasus because it was so comfortable that I often found myself running further than planned. I’ve really grown to like the running shoe for my interval training. However, I no longer use it for my intensive training sessions, as the shoe is too soft and too heavy for my taste. So I’m more likely to jump in my Asics DS Racer running shoes.

Nike Air Pegasus image

For long runs, the Nike Pegasus has probably become my go-to running shoe. Its responsive yet effective cushioning works really well for both recovery runs and longer runs at a faster pace. Although there is no extreme grip in the outsole of the shoe, I have had no problems running a bit of trails and the like. The Air Pegasus is still best on asphalt, but actually handles everything very well. All in all, I really think the Nike Pegasus is a good deal. You get a lot of running shoes for the money, especially since I’m sure there are still plenty of miles left in mine.

What have others said about the running shoe?

Below you can see how runners from different countries rate the Nike Pegasus. Nike official website. The vast majority can definitely recommend the shoe and praise it especially for its comfort and durability. Further down you can find personal comments that I have received from other runners.

nike air zoom pegasus survey

Christian Moller, Ringkobing, Runs 20-30 km/week

  • I like the running feel the most. Running in the shoe is a pleasure and it provides excellent support. Regardless of the distance I ran, the shoe was generally comfortable and it runs really well. The price was also important to me. With the Nike Air Pegasus, I could finally buy a running shoe without feeling like my wallet was being ripped off.–Christian Moller, Ringkobing, Lober 20-30 km/uge

Frederik Larsen, Copenhagen, Runs 60-80 km/week

  • I have run in many different running shoes and the Nike Air Pegasus is one of the most comfortable. It is a pleasure to run in and you get a good running shoe for training and long runs. However, I find it a bit too flexible and too heavy for fast tempo runs, interval training and competitions.–Frederik Larsen, Copenhagen, Runs 60-80 km/week

Charlotte Lyngborg, Rodby, runs 30-40 km/week

  • I think the overall comfort was the best thing about the shoe. I ran my first half marathon pretty quickly after buying the Nike Air Pegasus. The run wasn't great, but my feet felt really good..–Charlotte Lyngborg, Rodby, Lober 30-40 km/uge

Size in Nike Air Pegasus

This is, as I said, my first time running in the Nike Air Pegasus and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the size fit perfectly. I have subsequently looked around the web to find out if I am the only one with this experience, but I was not. The vast majority have found that the Nike Air Pegasus size matches the size in their other running shoes. So it is easy to find the right size in the Nike Air Pegasus.

Below you can also see what others have said about the size choice. As you can see, the vast majority perceive the shoe as true to size.

Advantages and disadvantages

Benefits

Comfort

It's hard to choose which benefit is the biggest in the Nike Air Pegasus, but comfort is right up there. Whether you're going on a 5k run or a marathon, you can be sure that the Air Pegasus will take good care of your feet. Even though I have, to say the least, a bit of a strange foot, it's been a pleasure to run in the shoe.

Durability

It has been a classic for training, training and more training for the past 30 years, and it definitely still is. The durable outsole holds its performance through many km and the comfort does not deteriorate over time. One of the most durable running shoes I have tested. I must say I am impressed.

Price

My Jutland roots are undeniable. I like to make a good deal where I feel I'm getting a lot for my money. And I really feel I've gotten a lot for my money with the Nike Air Pegasus. With the strong offers it's possible to find on the shoe, you can find it so cheap that you get an extremely high mileage per krone.

Disadvantages

Weight

I'm used to running in lighter running shoes and therefore find the Nike Air Pegasus a bit heavy. For calmer runs it's fine, but when I want to squeeze the lemon and give it full throttle I can feel that it's a heavier running shoe, which is mostly aimed at longer runs.

Stiffness or lack thereof

Even though Nike has stiffened the shoe a bit in the latest model to make it faster and more responsive, I still think it is a very flexible shoe that lacks a bit of power for sprinting and more intensive training sessions.

Lack of reflective elements

A small thing, but Nike promises that there are reflective elements on the shoes so you can be seen better in the dark. But all there are are two small reflectors that don't really make any difference.

Part 1 – Air Pegasus Review

Running style

The Nike Air Pegasus is mainly aimed at the neutral or supinating runner. This is explained in detail in our video, and in the technical review you will also be introduced to other comparable running shoes. In the sole you will find a “Crash rail” made of durable rubber, which stabilizes your landing and provides a wider footprint.

Fit

A comfortable fit that provides good support without being too over the top. The upper is made of mesh upper in as few layers as possible, which results in an upper that weighs less and provides the same good support for your foot. Where it is most necessary, the outer part has been made thinner, so that ventilation works even more effectively. On the inside you will not find any annoying seams, which helps to provide high comfort.

Nike Air Pegasus running shoes review

In fine clothes

The shoe runs best on hard surfaces, asphalt and gravel, but its Waffle Outsole provides surprisingly good grip on trails and softer surfaces. It is absolutely no trail running shoes, but you can use the shoe on many different surfaces

Price level

Nike Air Pegasus has a suggested retail price of DKK 950, but can always be found on sale or in sales online, so you can find it cheaper. Right now, Loebeshop is it available for 399 crowns cheapest, but we always keep our eyes open for even better deals or sale prices on Nike Air Pegasus.

Nike Air Pegasus guide

Weight

The shoe weighs approximately 312 g in size 42 men. It is on the heavier end, but excellent for a running shoe that needs to be durable enough for many kilometers and provide comfort for the same. For the ambitious runner it will be too heavy for competitions, but for training, long runs and general use it is excellent.

Type of shoe

As mentioned above, it is mainly a mass training shoe. With the latest improvements in the midsole and cushioning, it has become faster, but it is still a running shoe for training and lots of miles.

Drop

As mentioned above, it is mainly a mass training shoe. With the latest improvements in the midsole and cushioning, it has become faster, but it is still a running shoe for training and lots of miles.

Nike Air Pegasus men's women's

Nike+

In addition, the Air Pegasus is Nike+ compatible. This means you can use the shoe with all of Nike’s other services. It’s a bit like Adidas’ features to measure speed and the like – however, this requires additional equipment.

Part 2 – Construction of the running shoe

Outsole

Eco-friendly rubber for increased durability and good karma. The effective Waffle outsole, which Nike uses in almost all of their running shoes, is very durable and helps provide effective shock absorption, as well as more responsive take-offs.

Midsole

The Nike Air Pegasus is a true classic. That’s why you’ll find a lot of it good old Nike Air technology. However, this technology has been developed into a lower-profile Zoom Air Unit, which gives the shoe a more responsive feel without compressing the familiar shock absorption.

Nike Air Pegasus running training trail

Heel

The Zoom Air unit in the heel is where you’ll find the shoe’s main shock absorption. The responsive cushioning sends you forward in a natural motion to take off.

Midfoot

In the midfoot, the force from the landing is effectively transferred to the more flexible forefoot, so you can get a powerful push-off with every step.

Forefoot

The forefoot is more flexible than the rest of the Air Pegasus, so you can better push off and get started in a more efficient and faster running motion.

Nike Air Pegasus details white

Upper part

The new upper has been introduced, which primarily gives the shoe better stability. Because the upper is a little tighter, you can better maneuver your foot’s movements. However, you don’t have to worry about how much room there is for your feet – the upper is mesh and expands naturally.

The story behind the Nike Air Pegasus

The running shoe that everyone knows. That’s how I often hear the Nike Air Pegasus mentioned. And that’s because it has been on the market for a really long time. In fact, it was all the way back in 1983 that Nike launched their very first pair of Nike Pegasus. So we’re dealing with a running shoe that has more than 30 years of anniversary. That alone is an achievement in itself.
Pegasus can be traced back to “Immortality” and it must be said that the shoe lives up to that predicate. It doesn’t immediately look like a running shoe that will disappear from the market just around the corner.

In fact, back in 1983, the Nike Pegasus was more of a leisure shoe than a running shoe. In 1987, there were the first indications of a running shoe. They gradually began to equip the shoe with this well-known Air sole, which was also incorporated into the name, so it was now referred to as the Nike Air Pegasus. The shoe has become “lower” over time, since it was a very high running shoe/leisure shoe in the 80s. In the time leading up to today, we have also gone through many combinations of different features in the shoe. There have been experiments with various supportive plates and other measures, and the shoe has even been tried to be manufactured with a nylon upper..
But the closer we got to the turn of the millennium, the closer the look also came to remind us of what we associate with a running shoe today. Today, the Nike Pegasus is loved by many neutral runners around the world. And that’s because it is an excellent running shoe with fantastic properties when it comes to shock absorption and high comfort.

Difference between male and female

There is not much difference between the men’s and women’s models of the Nike Air Pegasus. Both men’s and women’s running shoes focus on comfort, fit and shock absorption. So there is nothing that you need to pay special attention to. Although I have tested the men’s model here, you will also be able to use my review of the Nike Air Pegasus to learn about the women’s model.

Nike Air Pegasus compare

Comparable running shoes

When you compare the Nike Air Pegasus with other running shoes, you get a lot for your money and are aimed at the neutral or supinating runner. In this relatively narrow segment, you will find, for example, the cheaper Adidas Supernova Slide and at the slightly more expensive end you get extremely effective shock absorption in Asics Kinsei

Buy Nike Pegasus offer

You can usually find good Nike Air Pegasus deals online. There is no need to pay full retail price when the shoe can be found much cheaper on sale. This applies whether you are a woman or a man, you will find Nike Air Pegasus much cheaper on the internet.

There aren’t always sales, but you can almost always expect to save over 30% on Nike Air Pegasus when you buy online. At all retailers, it’s also really easy to return the shoes if the size doesn’t fit. I’ve scanned the internet for the best deals and sales on Nike Air Pegasus, so you can always find the cheapest price.

Nike Air Pegasus running shoes

Summary

To sum up my review of the new Nike Air Pegasus, it has been a pleasure to test the running shoe. Lots of km, improved times and good running experiences. I enjoy the running sensation in the latest model, which has a very comfortable fit, smooth transition and a really nice design. It is still a mass training shoe that will last a lot of km on the roads, and you can always find Nike Pegasus for cheap money. It is a really good value purchase, where you get a lot for your money.
