What’s new Nike Air Zoom Odyssey 2
The Nike Odyssey has now reached number 2 in the series. The first release of the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey was a huge success, so we were of course also super excited to see what Nike came up with when they launched the Nike Air Zoom Odessey 2.
There have been no revolutionary changes, as they had a running shoe that had been very well received by runners, and which actually works in many ways. The Nike Odessey was perhaps intended as a successor to the Nike Lunareclipse, and it must be said that the shoe has fulfilled that task to the fullest. There are pretty much only positive things to hear when talking about the Nike Odessey.
We won’t highlight any areas and say that Nike has made major changes to their Odyssey 2, because that’s not how we see it. I’d rather say that the Odyssey has been optimized a bit overall, without knowing whether Nike has actually adjusted every single little detail on the shoe, I don’t think so. But I definitely believe that Nike has listened to the feedback they’ve received on the shoe and adjusted accordingly. The shoe of course still contains the cool features like the Flywire lacing system, Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot and heel, Dynamic support and much, much more. At least Nike hasn’t adjusted all of that.
So if you liked the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey 1, I definitely don’t think you’ll like the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey 2 any less. In any case, we think this running shoe is a great fit for the pronating runner, and everyone with that style should give themselves the experience of running in the Nike Odyssey.
What’s great about the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey
In short, the great thing about this Nike Odyssey is some banal things like support, pronation support and fit. These are things that many people think will always be present in a running shoe, but in the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey there is just a little more of it. It is a top running shoe from Nike, and you can feel it in their choice of materials and features.
Odyssey is equipped with all the cool things from Nike, all their wildly popular features like Zoom Air, Flywire, etc. And then there is the little thing about this running shoe from Nike, that it contains a new system in terms of slowing down pronation. And for many, that may well be the jumping-off point to go up and choose Nike Odyssey instead of, for example, Nike Air Structure. We at Iloebesko think that you can definitely feel a clear optimization, but you can read more about that below in our personal test of the shoe.
The pronation system is called Triple Density, and in short, it means that Nike has chosen to include 3 different hardnesses in the braking of your pronation – this means that you get a much smoother “roll” going forward, even though your running shoes are supposed to brake your pronation.
The Nike Air Odyssey is just a dream to step into. From the first second you can feel how this running shoe just fits really well around your foot, and that way you get the absolute best comfort.

What have others said about the running shoe?
Below you will find a very short excerpt of what other runners have said about the shoe. Not only here, but on websites all over the world, there is great praise for the Nike Air Zoom Odessey.

My personal test & review of Nike Odyssey
Basically, I am a pronation runner, and I don’t want to get into the “discussion” about running style that continues to flourish in the industry and among runners. I am not forced to run with a pronation running shoe, I run with the shoes that fit well, and then I adapt the length of my runs to the running shoe.
But when I first saw the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey, you can’t help but be excited to get out and run in it. It just exudes quality from the second you take it out of the box. And it certainly doesn’t get any less when you put it on your feet. Hold on, I think it fits well. Of course, there are differences in feet, and fit is individual, and I’ll leave it unsaid whether the Nike Odyssey is just unique to me, but I would say that this running shoe from Nike is in my personal top 3 for fit. It has exactly the support it needs, and it sticks to the foot nicely and fits just perfectly.
The appearance of the shoe is usually completely irrelevant to me, I don’t care if I look good when I run, I’d rather be able to walk for days after a long run. But that’s why I like to mention the design of a running shoe when it’s cool. And that’s what the Nike Odyssey is, it’s really cool and stylish to look at, and probably also a running shoe I could think of wearing on a summer day through the city with the kids when we’re going out for ice cream.
So how is the Nike Odyssey on the road?
I think it’s a good running shoe to run in. The first run I took in the Nike Odyssey was 8 kilometers long, and the shoe certainly didn’t fall short, and when I ran this “shorter” run, I had a clear feeling, even before I had been out on a longer run in these shoes, that it would easily be able to handle it. And it can.
But the first run only confirmed what I had suspected before I ran, and I also got confirmation of some of the features that I had read about that were supposed to be amazing about the Nike Odyssey. I can only nod in recognition to the incredibly comfortable fit around the foot, and the fact that you can lace the shoe with the Flywire system (lacing system) so that it fits perfectly, that just made the experience even cooler.
Of course I could feel the weight in the shoe. Many shoes I wear these days are made ultra lightweight and must weigh almost nothing. With a weight of around 300 grams in my size, the Nike Odyssey is considerably heavier than other running shoes. But honestly I don’t think it matters, of course I can feel the difference, but I also think I got better comfort.
And after several trips in the Nike Odyssey
After several short and long runs in the shoe, my opinion hasn’t really changed much. The shoe fits perfectly, and I have the same experience with the shoe whether I’m running 5 kilometers or 15 kilometers. The shoe fits perfectly all the time, it slows down my pronation sublimely, and it’s ultra soft to run in all the way..
I have mainly run on asphalt in this shoe, and that is also what Nike recommends, but I can’t say I’m free from hitting some forest paths every now and then, and I think it can do that too. It must be said, however, that it is probably at your own risk, as Nike has developed the shoe for asphalt running. But I took the chance anyway – living on the edge :-)
The Nike Air Zoom Odyssey will probably be part of my running shoe wardrobe for a long time, because it’s super fun to run in. I don’t think I’ll set records in it, and I wouldn’t choose it for my intervals and tempo runs, but I would definitely recommend the Nike Odyssey to runners who want a good all-round running shoe.
One of the things I noticed before I received the Nike Odyssey I bought was that many people complained a little bit about the shoe being expensive. And I can agree with people that 1300,- in the recommended retail price is a lot of money. But I think you get what you pay for. You get high quality, and a running shoe that I think will last at least 1000 kilometers. And then the math suddenly looks really good. I see many people paying 8-9-1000,- for tempo shoes that are made with ultra thin materials, and that may only last 700 kilometers, so I think that if you find Nike Odyssey for maybe 1100,- or 1000,- online, it’s a good deal. Size selection
You should choose as you usually do when buying Nike running shoes. This model does not stand out in size. But if you come from a different country than Nike, you should be aware that Nike is on the small side. For comparison, I use size 43 1/3 in Adidas and Salomon, but in Nike running shoes I am up to a size 44 (US 10). You can also use our size guide

Analysis part 1: What type of runner is Odyssey aimed at?
The analysis part 1 below is based on who can and should run with the Odyssey from Nike. It should of course be seen as a guideline, and what is the rule without the exception. But below is a brief overview of what the regulations and recommendations for this running shoe should be.
Which running style
It is pronation runners who should run in this Nike Odyssey. And regulations say from moderate to severe overpronation. but what exactly is that. It is probably a bit elastic in meters, because how do you decide exactly where to put it on the scale. But here Nike Odyssey has a clear advantage, as it is not just with the good old “hard” pronation wedge. It is built with 3 steps in the pronation wedge, and that alone will make it suitable for more runners.
Fit
This running shoe is tight, but it’s tight in a good way. It hugs your foot nicely without us feeling “suffocating”.
- Size: normal length (Nike level – remember they run small)
- Heel: normal
- Midfoot: normal
- Forefoot: A little large
- Shoe tip: normal
- Arch structure: medium
- Shoe shape: semi-curved
Base & conditioner
Nike’s idea was that this Nike Odyssey should be for asphalt (firm ground). But after testing the shoe, we think it can be used on semi-loose ground such as forest paths, park paths, etc. Our test shows that it has a good grip on loose ground as well. But whether the upper will hold up in the long run, we can’t be sure. In any case, it is recommended to stay on the paths so that you don’t get into trouble with branches and thorns and such, because soft uppers like those found in the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey have the disadvantage that they are not as robust..
The shoe also has a great way of gripping the surface when we’re talking about damp conditions on asphalt.

Price level
It’s on the high end, and it’s still on the high end even if you find it on sale online. That’s why you rarely expect to find this shoe for under 900,- and if you do, grab it right away, that’s a good price on the Nike Odyssey.
Weight
Not the world’s lightest running shoe – in fact it is a running shoe that in Nike’s program is at the high end when it comes to weight. But I think it is somewhat defended by the fact that you get ultra good support and very high comfort. So a slightly higher weight is the price you have to pay to get the other things.
Type of running shoe
All-round running shoes from Nike. A running shoe that covers all distances. I wouldn’t be afraid to recommend people to run, for example, a half or full marathon in this Nike Odyssey. It supports and cushions you perfectly all the way over the long distances. Whether you want to live with the slightly higher weight, I’ll leave that up to you.
Drops and heights on the forefoot and heel
Both the men’s and women’s versions of the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey have a 12mm drop, which is a relatively high drop for today’s running shoes.
Master:
Heel height: 32mm
Forefoot height: 20mm
Master:
The height of the heel: 30mm
Forefoot height: 18mm

Analysis part 2: Technical structure of Nike Odyssey
Analysis part 2 goes into a little more detail about the technical details, what features are in the shoe, and what systems Nike has used in their Nike Air Zoom Odessey.
The outsole
An outsole that has good grip on the ground – in fact on many different surfaces. The outsole uses Nike Duralon technology so that the outsole also helps with cushioning. A flexible outsole that follows your movements as it should.
Midsole
A super responsive midsole built around Cushlon and Lunarlon. This combined with the Zoom Air cushioning gives you a fantastic midsole construction. It is the heart of the running shoe, and is the one that first helps create the fantastic feeling in this running shoe.
Heel
The heel of the Nike Odyssey is really good. Good padding and good support. Makes sure to keep your heel in place in a very comfortable way.
Forefoot
The forefoot may seem a little wide, but only a little. If you like room for your toes, then this running shoe is great for you.
Upper part
Flywire and Flymesh are the 2 buzz words that make the magic happen in this part. The upper is unique on this shoe. Flymesh provides the soft and comfortable fit, which at the same time gives your feet a unique opportunity to breathe. This part goes hand in hand with the Flywire system, which is the system that allows you to tie, lace and generally make this shoe fit perfectly around the foot. Flywire is included in the entire upper structure, and that is what makes it fit perfectly.

Comparisons
It would be easy to mention the Nike Air Structure as a comparison to this Nike Odyssey, but I still think it’s possible to do so based on the fact that they cover the same running style. You just get a little more in the Nike Odyssey than you do in the Structure.
But if you are looking at other models that could be an alternative, take a look at either the Mizuno Wave Paradox or maybe a look at the Brooks Adrenaline. Both 2 models are very close to the Nike Air Zoom Odyssey.
Summary
I’m a fan. You get a really good running shoe in the Nike Odyssey, which is on the more expensive end of the scale. But with lots of cool Nike features in this running shoe, the price quickly becomes secondary. It is definitely a running shoe that gets my clear recommendation, and a shoe that I believe will shape the running shoe market for many years to come.
