What you should notice about the Nike Legend React

The Nike Legend React lives up to its name. But I think that all running shoes that have REACT incorporated in their name would do the same. That’s because React is becoming so well-known among runners, so everyone knows that when there’s a React midsole in a running shoe from Nike, you can be sure it’s incredibly soft and comfortable.
And that’s one of the things you should notice about the shoe. It has an ultra high comfort when it comes to softness.

Another thing I definitely think you should notice is the fit when you step into the shoe. If you’re not into tight-fitting running shoes, then the Nike Legend React is probably not your running shoe. But without knowing if that makes sense to you, the fit is not quite so tight that it becomes annoying. But this inner sock that is attached to the tongue of the shoe and its sole, which then surrounds your foot and holds it in place. It gives a really cool feeling.

It is important that you notice that in this review I mention several times that in my eyes the Nike Legend React is not a full-fledged running shoe. This should not be taken negatively. Because you should also note the price. A starting point of 800,- is crazy. So you really get a lot of running shoes for your money. And when it is going to hit a suggested retail price of 800,- then it is natural that some details have to be cut. But the running shoe that Nike has created in the Nike Legend React, it is perfect for many things, actually surprisingly many.

First impressions of the Nike Legend React

When you, as a nerd, see that a running shoe like the Nike Legend React is being made, you are in a divided world. You are looking forward to seeing what Nike comes up with because the shoe has React in its name. You know what that means..
On the other hand, people are a little skeptical about the price of the shoe, and the fact that the name React is included. Is Nike now shooting itself in the foot by “exploiting” their popular midsole to sell indifferent running shoes.

Let it be said right away, it appears after running, training and walking in the shoe, not as exploitation for me. It appears more like a product where you have been inside and looked at what the market was missing. And here I think Legend React has a good opportunity to strike. If users accept it well. Because it is this “in-between running shoe” that many yearn for. The one you can run between 5-10 kilometers in (with high comfort) but also the one you can take to the gym. And of course without being ripped off for 12-14-1600,- Here Nike Legend React is perfect.

My first run in the Nike Legend React was basically what I expected. When there’s a React midsole on the shoe, you just know it’s going to be this soft experience, where you feel that every step is soft and comfortable. What I wasn’t familiar with was the upper on the Legend React. I was actually very surprised by how well the upper of the shoe holds your foot. The inner sock in the Nike Legend React really does its job well.
And now I could easily repeat myself about a lot of things. The thing about the Nike Legend React missing things. But we won’t dwell on that any longer. The shoe should be evaluated for what it is.

Nike Legend React offers more options

I have used the Nike Legend for other things than running. Mostly because I have running shoes that are better than the Nike Legend React in terms of my training, length of runs, etc..
But one place where I think many people might need the Nike Legend React is in the gym. I’ve worn the shoe myself, and it makes perfect sense here. Perfect for warming up/cooling down on the treadmill, while you can also do strength training in the shoe without any problems..
As mentioned in the video, I actually think the Nike Legend React will win over some users and customers with its look and feel. It can easily be used as casual shoes/sneakers.

Personally, I also find the shoe ideal for cycling back and forth. A lightweight shoe with good breathability is perfect for a bike ride with the family or if you’re going out and beating up your mountain bike on the road?

Choose the right size in Nike Legend React

There’s not much hocus pocus here. It’s not like there are big fluctuations in size in the Nike Legend React. The shoe may (unfortunately) feel a bit small, but it’s not. It’s just tight. If you want to be absolutely sure, always buy running shoes according to the centimeter measurement of your old running shoes (if they fit, of course). That way you always get the right size.

The fit

That's the first advantage, because that's what surprised me the most. I didn't have high expectations for a good fit in a running shoe for 800,- But I was very surprised. It sits solidly and perfectly around your foot. This is primarily due to the very elastic inner sock that Nike has made in the shoe.

The ease

When the weight "only" says 265 grams in a size 44. Then it's not the weight that's going to weigh you down, and that's an advantage. It's certainly also an advantage when you're going to walk with it, when you're going to cycle with it, but probably most of all when you're going to use it in the gym.

REACT midsole

The React midsole is both light, comfortable and a bit unique in its construction. It is primarily responsible for the surprisingly high comfort that is found in the shoe.

The price

Nike Legend React costs 800,- in the recommended retail price. So already well below the magical 1,000,- And considering that you will probably find it on sale online, the price is just as big an advantage as the high comfort. Truly unique what you get for your money in this running shoe.

Disadvantages

The heel

How durable is the heel? In our video review I praise the heel, and it doesn't really have any flaws. Now I haven't run 500 or 700 kilometers in this shoe. But the heel just strikes me as a place where problems could arise after many kilometers?

Missing details

I promised not to go into it anymore about the shoe not being a thoroughbred, but I still think it should be mentioned under disadvantages. Of course, it's a disadvantage for a nerd like me that it lacks all the cool details.

Lacing system

When you are used to the luxury that Nike puts on display in relation to the lacing system in a running shoe. Then the lacing system on the Nike Legend React is what I would call a scrappy model, unfortunately. It is not because of the surprising comfort that is in the Nike Legend React

Durability

This is not unique to this running shoe. But as with many of our other recent running shoe reviews, the upper is the culprit. It is soft, light and comfortable. However, the material is not very durable.

Analysis: Who should run in the Nike Legend React

Here we do a mini analysis of the shoe, its construction and who should actually run in the Nike Legend React.

Which running style

The shoe is for the neutral runner. This means that the shoe does not have any specific support for pronation. No wedge on the inside of the shoe.
But the midsole in the shoe is actually relatively stable in itself, so if you are really into neutral and pronation running styles, I would say that this shoe would easily suit a runner with moderate pronation.

Fit

First of all, the fit as a whole is surprisingly good if you ask me. It’s a tight fit that you experience in the Nike Legend React. Primarily due to the inner sock that is in the shoe. So if you are more into “loose” running shoes, or at least this kind of running shoe where you don’t feel your foot getting squeezed in a good way, then you should stay away from the Nike Legend React.

Surfaces and conditions

The shoe is a distinct running shoe for hard surfaces, i.e. asphalt, concrete or other hard surfaces. If you stick to this surface, you will also get a running shoe with many kilometers in it..
It’s not like if you come across a gravel or forest path that the shoe can’t handle it. It doesn’t blow up when you hit another surface. But it’s important to understand that the wear resistance in the outsole is produced for hard surfaces. And then there’s the fact that especially in the forest you’re close to branches, thorns and the like. And then the upper of the shoe is very exposed.

Price level

Nike Legend React is at a fantastic price level. A level where most people can afford it. In light of what you get for your 800,-, the shoe is a really good buy. If you compare quality to price, then quality wins in my eyes. So even though the shoe has flaws, in my eyes you get more than you pay for.

What does the shoe weigh?

The shoe weighs in our test version, which is a size 44, a paltry 265 grams. We can’t go so far as to say that it is a super lightweight, but it is a very light running shoe. And that is especially true when you look at the high comfort and the very soft midsole. When you run in the shoe, it definitely feels like a midsole that “should be heavier.” But that is the fantastic ability of the REACT material.

Drop height in Nike Legend React

The shoe has a drop height of 10mm. So it falls under what you can describe as a “regular running shoe”. And by regular running shoes we mean a shoe that is reserved for heel-landers. If you are going to run mid or forefoot running then you need a somewhat lower drop in the shoe, so the Legend React can’t be used for that.

Summary

I will use the summary of the Nike Legend React to once again point out that I think the shoe is good. In fact, surprisingly good for the price. So even though I have also spoken a little down about the shoe in relation to missing details and finesses, you just have to keep in mind that you get what you pay for. And that is what the Nike Legend React gives, or actually a little more..
A running shoe that I didn’t have high expectations for, but which still managed to surprise me in some ways. The React midsole is not a surprise in itself. You know what to expect. But the fit of the Nike Legend React has really surprised me. Not least because of the appearance, because it really doesn’t look like a shoe with a particularly good fit. It could be that I’ve been lucky that the Nike Legend React is made for my feet in terms of fit, but I was still surprised.
