The Flywire system from Nike is quite ingenious in itself. Now this system has also been upgraded a little bit in the Nike Lunarglide 9. In short, this means that there is more AND better support in the upper for your foot. If you were in doubt, this Flywire system is a set of “wires” that are connected to the laces on your Nike running shoes, and they then attach to the sole. So when you lace up your running shoes, you simultaneously tighten the upper in a unique way around your foot. This gives a perfect fit in the shoe.

More support for your heel provides better comfort

Nike has messed around with the heel a little bit. Not so much in terms of comfort and softness, but probably more when we look at the support in the heel. In other words, finding the balance between creating natural and delicious softness in the heel, while at the same time creating the correct support and correction of your foot in the transition. And now the Nike Lunarglide 8 is on the market. But what and how does it actually stand out compared to the Lunarglide 7. We’ll quickly outline that for you.

Lunarglide 8 stands out significantly compared to its previous predecessors Lunarglide 6 and 7. There have been a lot of cool updates in this version 8..
The shoe’s midsole is still a sole construction that is aimed at the pronated runner, but it has now received a huge update, so it is lasercut technology that is used in the midsole, as you know from some Lunar Epic models, for example. In short, this means that the midsole is grooved on the outside via laser technology, and in this way it slows and controls your pronation.

You will also definitely notice that the upper has been given a bit of a makeover. Both in terms of fit (which has become just that bit smoother) and also in terms of design. Personal experiences with Nike Lunarglide

I have been lucky enough to test the Nike Lunarglide men’s shoe. In my tests (with video and text) I always run at least 100 kilometers, but in the Lunarglide it was a bit longer. I have worn out the first pair and am starting on my second pair. I am absolutely crazy about the shoe, its relatively low weight and the fact that it fits my feet perfectly.

I’m giving you my personal review of the Nike Lunarglide shoe. I’ve tested the men’s version of the shoe, but if you’re a woman, you can take the same value from this video and text review. This is because the differences between women and men are only small details in terms of the amount of cushioning and fit. Basically, it’s the same running shoe.

I would recommend the Nike Lunarglide as a mass training running shoe, but also for competitive running. It has the necessary shock absorption for hard surfaces, whether it’s short distances or long distances.

First impressions

I was extremely excited when I received my new Nike Lunarglide. I have run in the model before, so I had an idea of ​​what to expect. The color combinations are, as always, top notch at Nike. I put the shoes on, and they fit my feet as expected, like butter. When I hear people buy running shoes online, I usually hear that the concern is how the shoes fit. The Lunarglide fits me perfectly.

Before I go on my first test run, I usually like to walk around in the shoes a bit to feel if there are any discomforts. As I mentioned in the pros and cons section, there were no discomforts at all. So far, I am very positively surprised. And I am not the only one. On nike.com satisfaction is very high.

After 100 km of running training

I base my review of the Nike Lunarglide on this shoe, but also my latest shoes, which I ran 800 km in before they had to be replaced. Considering that the shoe is in the value for money segment (1100 DKK recommended price), I think it is an excellent shoe. The shoe lasts very well (800 km in my case), and it doesn’t seem like it gets particularly worn out in exposed areas. Normally, I find that shoes tend to either go up into the mesh on the outside, inside the heel, or that the sole quietly falls off. With the Nike Lunarglide, this has never been a problem.

I’m personally a heel/midfoot lander, but in the Lunarglide I’m a definite heel lander. With a 13mm drop, landing further forward on the shoes is a definite challenge. However, it doesn’t make much sense to focus on that in a shoe like this. The cushioning in the heel is sublime, and it should be utilized. An excellent running shoe for heel landers.

Size selection

As you can see below, some people find that the shoes are a little small in size. I have found that the shoe is a little small, but I still use size 42 in the shoe, just like I do in other shoes.

Running style

Nike Lunarglide is aimed at all types of running styles. It is the Dynamic Support technology that makes it possible for both neutral runners, supinating runners and overpronating runners to use the shoe. The technology adapts the support of pronation depending on your running style. However, I will be a little skeptical about this (or fantastic idea) and say that I primarily think the shoe is for runners with mild to moderate pronation. Nike will probably disagree with me, but that is my opinion after seeing neutral runners and overpronating runners running in the shoe.

Due to the relatively flat sole, the Nike Lunarglide is best suited for running on asphalt. You can also use the shoe on hard-packed gravel, but it performs best on asphalt, sidewalks, bike paths, concrete and the like.

Price level

I personally think the price of the Nike Lunarglide is quite fair. 1100 kroner for a running shoe of that caliber is quite cheap. If you also find the Nike Lunarglide on sale or on sale, it is suddenly an incredibly cheap running shoe that will last many kilometers. I have personally run about 800 km in my old Lunarglide without any problems.

Weight

At only 260 grams, the Nike Lunarglide is a lightweight running shoe. The lightest running shoes are around 200 grams, while normal heavy running shoes are 320-360 grams. The Lunarglide from Nike is positioned between the two poles, making the shoe a hybrid.

Size

The size is normal compared to other running shoes. Personally, I use 42 in normal shoes, and 42.5 in a shoe like the Lunarglide. This is the same size that I use in the heavier running shoes from Nike, mass training shoes from Asics and mass training shoes from Adidas. The bottom line is that you should buy the shoes in the same size as your normal running shoes. If you are still in doubt, you can try shoefitr, or my size guide, which converts sizes across brands. Type of shoe

It is a shoe for everyday training. Lunarglide can be used for almost all distances, making it an excellent all-round running shoe (read here about types of running shoes).Now it’s no secret that I have a lot of running shoes, but if I had to have just one running shoe, the Nike Lunarglide would be one of the top candidates. This is due to its relatively low weight and pleasant comfort combined with a relatively low drop, which gives a good feel while running. I personally see the shoe as a hybrid between the normal classic mass training running shoes and the wave of lightweight running shoes that has come. Therefore, it is excellent as an all-round shoe.

Drops and heights on the forefoot and heel

The height of the heel is approximately 35mm and the forefoot 22mm, which gives a drop of around 13mm. That’s relatively high, and therefore the Nike Lunarglide not used as a natural running shoe. It is a widespread running shoe for runners who land on the heel and roll over the midfoot, after which the push-off will take place from the forefoot.

Analysis Part 2: Construction of the Nike Lunarglide

In this part of the analysis, I will get into the slightly more technical aspects of the Nike Lunarglide. You can read about the actual construction of the shoe. I have tried to make the review as user-friendly as possible. I will not only mention technologies, but also elaborate on what they mean for you as a runner (if that has any effect at all).

The outsole

The outsole is flat, which makes the shoe best suited for running on asphalt. You can easily run on gravel, but if you move out on the trail or off-trail, you will have difficulties in the Nike Lunarglide – especially if you are running on wet surfaces.

The outsole is very soft, which makes your landing comfortable. If you prefer hard and effective landings, you should not train with Lunarglide. The outsole has extra strong rubber spots in the places where the outsole normally wears the most. This provides better durability.

Midsole

The midsole is made of the well-known Lunarlon technology, hence the name LUNARglide. All Nike shoes that are called Lunar have the Lunarlon midsole. In the latest version, the Lunarlon midsole comes with a diamond-shaped structure on the outer part, which optimizes shock absorption.

The cushioning in running shoes is primarily located in the midsole, which is why the latest upgrade is essential for how soft a landing you get.

Heel

As for the cushioning, the shoe has become softer and more stable. This means that you get a running shoe that you can use for different purposes. As I said, there is nothing wrong with doing longer training sessions on asphalt with the Nike Lunarglide, despite the fact that it is lightweight.

Middle

The Nike Lunarglide comes with Dynamic Support, which is one of Nike’s most ambitious products ever, along with the Nike Free project and the Nike Air project. Dynamic Support is meant to make running style secondary. This means that all types of running styles can use the shoes without having to worry about pronation wedges and the like.

Technically, it works like this: Dynamic support adapts to how much pronation support you need. The level of shock absorption is practically adjusted depending on how much you fall inward. For example, if you have a neutral running style, you will have minimal pronation wedge. If you are a pronation runner and you start to fall inward, the support will increase. In this way, dynamic support ensures that you get exactly the amount of support you need.

Forefoot

The forefoot outsole has a good and balanced grip on asphalt. There is sufficient cushioning if you are a heel-lander (if you are a heel-lander, your weight is primarily on your heel and you do not need the same cushioning in the forefoot). If you are a forefoot-lander, you may find the cushioning to be a bit limited. However, with a 13mm drop, it is difficult to land on your forefoot.

Upper part

The latest version of Lunarglide has received Dynamic Flywire. It is a technology that helps to give the shoe the fit you have always dreamed of. This applies primarily across the midfoot where the shoe sits snugly. In terms of design, a slightly different type of ventilation has been added to the top of the shoe. The mesh on the upper part of the shoe is stretchy, while the inner part of the mesh is firmer. The shoe is thus made with a 2-layer system, which gives you the best possible comfort. The inner mesh comes without seams, which significantly reduces irritation problems. I personally have not experienced any problems with seams or anything else in these shoes, which is a big plus.

Nike Lunarglide, a historic success

LunarLon is the development from Nike that we should associate with the Nike LunarGlide. It was a type of midsole that was presented back in 2008 in connection with the Olympic Games in Beijing. A running shoe (LunarRacer) and a basketball shoe saw the light of day for the first time.
Even in the same year, we saw the Nike Lunarglide on the market for the first time. And it was a bit of a revolution when it came out. LunarLon was at the time this new stranger in the class that you didn’t really know what it would be like. We all know how it went, but at the time it entered a market of running shoes that was very much characterized by the traditional construction of running shoes. A soft midsole, and some form of direct pronation wedge on the inside. LunarLon and not least LunarGlide did away with that philosophy. We saw here for the first time that a running shoe doesn’t always have to be built traditionally to work..
Lunarlon, which is the heart of the Lunarglide running shoe, is used by Nike in many contexts. You’ll find it in running, basketball, skiing, etc.

Comparison

The Nike Lunarglide is a fairly lightweight running shoe, making it suitable for competitive running and fast runs. It falls somewhat in the same category as other lightweight running shoes like Asics Trainer orThe Adizero Tempo lightweight from Adidas. In terms of weight, the shoes are similar in many ways.

In addition to the above, Lunarglide reminds of Nike Zoom Vomero (neutral running style) andAir Pegasus (neutral or supinating running style). If you have an overpronating running style, you can compare Lunarglide with Asics GT series (1000, 2000 or 3000).

The special thing about the Nike Lunarglide is the weight level of 260 grams, which makes the shoe a hybrid. Some of the shoes I have compared the Lunarglide to are significantly heavier, and others a little lighter. Weight is not the most important thing, but it is a factor you should seriously consider when buying running shoes.
