Nike Lunartempo 2, what does it offer?
Nike Lunartempo is now on the streets in a version 2. What can Lunartempo 2 do that Lunartempo 1 couldn’t? Nike has managed to make some small but good upgrades to the shoe..
In version 2, the fit has been upgraded, among other things. The fit in the running shoe has improved. You will find that you now feel a little more like a “sock-like fit”. There is good logic in that, when it is a fast-paced shoe. Then it is a great feeling that it is firmly on the foot.
You still get plenty of flexibility in the sole, and a super light running shoe that you can take lots of tempo runs in..
However, it has happened that Nike has increased the weight of the Nike Lunartempo 2 a little bit compared to the Nike Lunartempo 1. It is of course not more kilos, but it is worth mentioning, as in our eyes it is a little bit remarkable. But we choose to believe that it is because the other upgrades required a little more weight, and they did not want to compromise on the already integrated features.
What’s great about the Nike LunarTempo?
This Nike Lunartempo is a shoe that, in its construction and design, is positioned between Nike LunarGlide and Nike LunarRacer
I have had the pleasure of testing the shoe, and I would say that there are a lot of pluses, but a few minuses also crept in. But all in all, a really good experience running in this Nike Lunartempo.
This running shoe from Nike is of course (as always) one is almost tempted to say, super soft to step into. You get a really good feeling around the foot when you put on your Lunartempo. And I especially noticed the seamless upper that hugs your foot right away. There are some who like the running shoe to be tight, and others want a looser fit. It should be stated that if you are into the loose fit, then you should NOT choose the Nike Lunartempo. It is an ultra tight-fitting running shoe. But more on that later.
Just to put this Nike running shoe in place. It belongs in the category of lightweight running shoes (193 grams). It is a pleasure (for those who like this) to have a pair of shoes on your feet that you can hardly feel sitting on your foot because they weigh so little.
I’m not a fan of lightweight shoes, or that may sound wrong, because of course I want my running shoes to be as light as possible. But my body is wired a little differently, and I think I can feel that when I use these shoes that are in the lightweight category, my body reacts differently. There aren’t that many grams to play with – that means that the cushioning and support are probably a little less than in traditional running shoes. But enough about that, back to the Nike Lunartempo.
As I’m writing now, I’m convinced that there will be less cushioning in lightweight and race running shoes as the weight needs to be reduced, but it shouldn’t be a secret that the softness and the entire fit surprised me incredibly much in the Nike Lunartempo.
In addition to the fact that it actually provides good shock absorption, I experience a good feeling of the tight-fitting upper. It gives my feet really good support. I can feel that Nike has made a lot of use of their Flywire technology when I put the shoe on. But that technology is not new, but that doesn’t make it any less fantastic. The technology has been seen in many other Nike running shoes previous.
Nike Lunartempo is primarily for hard surfaces. That is, asphalt, and if necessary, you can move a little outside the asphalt and onto the paths. But it is my clear belief that Nike Lunartempo holds up better if you keep it on the hard running surface.

My personal assessment of Nike Lunartempo
The running shoe is super cool – Nike makes running shoes that also appeal to people’s design sensibilities. And the LunarTempo is certainly no exception. I think it’s a really nice running shoe, with an extraordinary look. I think it’s because it has a tight fit on the foot, and doesn’t look bulky in any way. It was definitely a shoe I could wear with a pair of jeans too. But now it’s with the LunarTempo running shoe in mind that we’re going to do the analysis.
One of the first things you’ll probably notice is the weight of the shoe. When I unpacked the shoe, it was almost as if there was nothing in the box. At 193 grams, we have a shoe that certainly won’t be blamed for the slow times on the road.
Another thing you notice when you first step into the shoe is that you are very close to the ground. The Nike Lunartempo has an 8mm drop. It gave me the distinct feeling that I was really, really close to the ground, and thus had better control.
First road trip in Lunartempo
Let me say it right away. I won’t go beyond 10-12 kilometers in this shoe. I don’t believe it. My feet and these running shoes are simply not built for that. I’ve run in running shoes from Nike and their Lunar series before, and it’s worked just fine. And I’m sure the Nike Lunartempo will do that too. But it’s the quick 5-7 kilometer runs I’m going to take in these running shoes.
But the first trip on the road just confirmed what I thought when I tried the shoe on before the run. I get a run with good contact with the ground, and I can hardly feel that I have the shoe on. The only thing I would mention is that the upper is really tight. You have to get used to that. But once you get used to it – it gives a pretty fantastic fit in the running shoe when you run.
After several runs – what do we say?
As I wrote above, I don’t go out on longer runs in this shoe. But after having been on several of the small and short sprint runs, my clear assessment is that in the Nike Lunartempo you get a “value for money” running shoe. Even though I may have been on 7-8 trips with a good pace, I can’t really see that the running shoe has been used. It must be said that I have also only adhered to the regulations. Using this shoe on asphalt.
It has a price of 1000,- in recommended price. And I think that is a very fair price for this running shoe. I am convinced that I can easily get this shoe to last for 800+ kilometers. And that must be said to be okay for a running shoe that balances in the competition/race running shoe segment. It is actually very easy to do the math for how long I want this running shoe in my assortment. How long will it take before it is worn out. If we assume that the shoe lasts 850 kilometers on the right surface. I assume that my average on fast runs is 6 kilometers. It is probably closer to 5 kilometers, but let’s just say 6 kilometers, then warming up and cooling down have also been taken into account. So the running math is 850/6 = 141 runs. That is 141 running days in my world. That means that I can work out that I will have this shoe for at least a year and a half. That’s really good.

Size selection
As always, I would say that Nike running shoes are a little small in their setup. I find most times that I have to go up a size when choosing Nike running shoes. Nike Lunartempo is no exception, I am the same size as I always am in Nike shoes. So if you are used to running in Nike shoes, then you just buy as usual. But if you are going to switch from another running brand, then you have to be careful. You can possibly use our size guide
Advantages and disadvantages
Benefits

Disadvantages
The fit – again

Asphalt only
Analysis part 1: What type of runner is Lunartempo aimed at?
The analysis part 1 below is based on who can and should run with the shoe.
Which running style
I would definitely say that Nike Lunartempo is a shoe that is mainly aimed at runners with a natural running style. You can also use this running shoe successfully if you run with supination. In fact, I would say that you can easily use this running shoe even if you have a little bit of pronation when you run. The tight-fitting upper and the construction itself can well defend that you get the support for your feet that you need.

Fit
The fit in the shoe is tight. The width itself is normal in the shoe, but it is the upper that gives you the tightness.
- Size: normal length (Nike level – remember they run small)
- Heel: normal
- Midfoot: normal
- Forefoot: normal
- Shoe tip: normal
- Arch structure: medium
- Shoe shape: semi-curved
In fine clothes
A running shoe that is designed to be used almost exclusively on asphalt. The sole itself has become more durable. It has a waffle structure, which in addition to giving you better shock absorption, has a longer lifespan.
Price level
When we talk about a price of 1000,- for a pair of Nike Lunartempo, I think it’s a really fair price. Value for money running shoes, where you get a lot for your money. If you’re lucky, you might find it on sale or on sale, and then we’re talking really good race running shoes for maybe 800,-

Weight
Lunartempo stands out by being able to present a weight of ONLY 193 grams (Men’s, size 42). It must be said to be a lightweight. You get a running shoe that you are hardly weighed down by when you run. .

Type of running shoe
Nike would say that these are all-round running shoes. They have done something for both those for short fast distances, and then something for those for slightly longer fast distances. My clear belief, and here I speak for myself, is that this will be used as a tempo running shoe. Whether it is for 5-10 or 21 kilometers, I will not speculate. I know that my Nike Lunartempo, they will hardly get beyond the 7 kilometers. MY body is not built for that.
Drops and heights on the forefoot and heel
Heel height: 26mm
Forefoot height: 18mm
The Nike Lunartempo has a drop of 8mm, which puts you in a running shoe that is relatively close to the running surface.
Analysis part 2: The structure of LunarTempo
Analysis part 2 goes into a little more detail about the technical details of the running shoe. It gives you an overview of how the shoe is built around many different elements.
The outsole
A flat but now more waffled outsole. Gives you a good touch on the ground, and the waffled effect gives you something when you land and take off.
The outsole is, like many other Lunar running shoes, very soft. So you should be a fan of soft landings, and not go for a hard and more powerful/efficient landing.
Midsole
Like all other Nike Lunar Running Shoes, this Nike Lunartempo also has a lunarlon midsole. It is this amazing element that gives you the great softness in Nike running shoes. It is an ultra light, soft and responsive foam that forms the popular Lunar midsole.
Heel
The heel appears soft and comfortable. Inside the heel, a lot has been done to keep the foot in place and at the right angle for the right movement and the right take-off. Outside, there is good softness when you land after each step.

Forefoot
Nike Lunartempo has a forefoot structure that is primarily aimed at those who land on their heels. However, it should be mentioned that Nike Lunartempo has a lower drop compared to, for example, LunarGlide. Approximately 5 mm, and therefore there is a better opportunity to get closer to the surface, and thus also a greater opportunity to make a forefoot landing.
Upper part
It is unique. The upper is made of seamless and highly breathable material. It sits really close to the foot, and that is why it is so important that there is no possibility of discomfort. This eliminates the seamless upper. Your feet will feel super comfortable in this run. Nike Lunartempo ventilates really well, and that is why the feet have the best climate inside the shoe. I think I could feel that the upper just got closer to the foot, and it gave me cooler feet.
Comparison
Lunartempo is an insanely light running shoe, so we can’t help but compare it to the Asics DS Racer.
If we are talking about running style, the Nike lunarTempo can be compared to New Balance 1080 or Nike’s own Nike Flyknit Lunar. A 3rd option could be Asics Gel-Cumulus
Lunartempo is an extremely light running shoe – some of the shoes above are probably a little heavier, but the comparison is made against the running style, and not the “running category”
LunarTempo is Nørrebro inspired
Nike Lunartempo is actually a shoe that was developed with inspiration from Nørrebro and the Danish NBRO runners. Therefore this fast running shoe for asphalt, spiced with a really nice design
It reminds me of the LunarRace shoe.
The running shoe itself and its construction may remind a lot of the Nike LunarRace. In fact, Nike says that it lands between the Lunarglide and LunarRace. Nike has been inspired by 2 of their own models, and then they have created this lightweight clone. If we have to hold it up against the Race shoe, then you get that running more fun in the Lunartempo. There is support around the midfoot, better shock absorption and it is more durable.
Summary
I am super happy with my Nike Lunartempo running shoes. It is definitely a shoe I would recommend to others. However, I would tell them that I would only use it for short, fast runs, and then immediately say that this is how my body is wired. Because I believe that a runner who doesn’t land nearly as hard as I do can go out on longer runs in these running shoes.
