This is what you can expect from the Nike React Infinity Run

You can expect the direct replacement for the Nike Epic React. The shoe that many runners have really enjoyed for a few years now (it has reached version 2). It is based on this running shoe that Nike has launched the Nike React Infinity Run. But is it just a faithful copy of the Nike Epic React? No, it is not. It is a shoe that is based on the many good things that the Epic React had/has. But the Infinity Run has its own advantages. The shoe is designed with lots of softness (including 24% more React foam than in the Epic React). It is designed with a better upper for better comfort and better durability. And last but certainly not least, the shoe is designed to be injury-reducing. Nike itself did a test, consisting of 226 runners. The runners trained for a half marathon, and the running shoe that the Nike React infinity was up against was Nike’s own Nike Zoom Structure. During this 12-week training program, the Nike React Infinity Run was found to have a 52% lower injury rate than its direct counterpart in the test. So it’s definitely not just any running shoe Nike is launching here. In the Nike React Infinity, you get a mass training running shoe. It has great advantages, but also (in my opinion) has some disadvantages. I’ve tested it, and you can read all about it below.

Unboxing the Nike React Infinity Run – and the first run

You can watch our unboxing video below this section. When a running shoe is proclaimed as “injury-reducing”, you can’t help but be excited about what comes through the door. When a running shoe is proclaimed as a neutral running shoe, but also a running shoe that the pronating runner can use, you’re excited about what comes through the door. When Nike generally launches new running shoes, you’re excited about what comes this time. All 3 things fit the feeling that I had when the Nike Infinity Run was on its way to my mailbox. Not only is the Nike React Infinity Run a super cool shoe to look at. It also has lots of the qualities I was looking forward to from the start. But it was also missing some! The shoe has a smart look, and if you didn’t know better, it could just as well be on the shelf in a fashion store and not a running store. And I know this, because I currently work in the fashion industry. And many of the Nike fashion shoes we send out the door look confusingly similar to the Nike React Infinity running shoe. When I first unpacked the shoe, there was one thing that caught my attention. And that was the new and upgraded Flyknit upper. If you watch our unboxing video, you can also hear how I mention that you can clearly feel that the material feels somewhat more robust than its predecessor. And that alone is a huge plus. The Flyknit upper on Nike running shoes is delicious and super cool. But also really uncool if you had to judge based on the durability alone. The old Flyknit broke far too often and far too quickly. That’s definitely not the feeling I had when I first felt this shoe. The new upper later turns out to have some disadvantages. One of the other things that the Nike React Infinity is launched on is its 24% extra React material in the midsole. It’s not something you can just see with the naked eye when you unpack it. But I would like to mention that when you have tried the Nike Epic React and its ability to provide stability and softness, you are looking forward to a shoe that contains 24% more midsole. You also immediately see that the shoe has a very high midsole – at least compared to other “normal” running shoes. The first run is always exciting. The first time you feel the shoe. How is the fit? How is the softness? and how is the shoe in general. The Nike React Infinity was no exception. And you hadn’t run many 100 meters in the shoe before you felt what Nike meant when they said that the shoe is both soft and stable. I would like to admit that the stability in particular surprised me a lot. Another thing I noticed on the first run was the lightness of the shoe. Or maybe the lack of it. I can easily imagine many and long walks in the shoe, but somehow I think that the shoe’s stability, softness and upper make the shoe a bit “heavy”. But it is precisely this combination that also makes it easy to see what Nike means when they launch the shoe as injury-reducing. It’s simply a smooth run with lots of return energy and softness. In fact, a fantastic feeling, except if you want to keep up a high speed. I won’t fail to mention the upper in connection with my first run in the shoe. You have no doubt that the Flyknit upper has been upgraded. You can immediately feel that it has become more robust. But with that robustness, I also think that it has become a bit stiffer. And then you have to be prepared for it to be tight and very elastic. It was really tight around my foot on the first run, almost constricting. (But let me say right now that it will pass and get better. It ends up being incredibly comfortable) So the first run in the Nike React Infinity actually gave a surprisingly good number of responses about the shoe.

More rides in the Nike React Infinity Run yielded more answers

Although you got quite a few answers about the Nike React Infinity relatively quickly, and already on the first run, several runs now gave more answers. Among other things, on the many runs in the shoe, I have had the pleasure of the curved sole that the Nike React Infinity has. Although after several runs I still think the shoe feels heavy to me, you have no doubt about what Nike wants with the sole. They want to bring some of that Vaporfly NEXT feeling, and thus extra speed, into the shoe. It’s a cool feeling. but still not enough for the undersigned to think it’s a fast shoe. There is simply too much stability running in the shoe for that. And if we were to round off the upper right away. Then it holds better, that’s a fact. It also becomes a bit looser when you’ve run several runs in it. I personally think it feels less breathable, even though Nike says it shouldn’t be. But still super comfortable to wear around the feet. Very high comfort If you have to make an assumption in relation to the upper. Then the denser and more stable upper connects nicely with the midsole. And it’s that combination that makes the shoe feel as stable as it does. And it actually makes a big difference that a pronating runner can use this “neutral” running shoe. That’s a huge plus.

Choosing a size in Nike Infinity Run

You can choose the size you usually wear. I wear size 43 in Nike Infinity Run, just like I do in most other running shoes (27.5 cm). However, you should be aware that the shoe is tight-fitting (has no influence on the length = size) but the slightly tighter Flyknit upper makes the shoe tight-fitting and a bit tighter. So if you are not into the stiff upper in a running shoe, then you should consider your choice once again. You are also very welcome to use our size guide

Advantages and disadvantages

Benefits

24% more React foam

They exist, but there are very few runners who don't like softness. And many also love softness combined with stability. And that's exactly what the React midsole gives you. And you can easily feel that compared to the Epic React 2, more of the good stuff has been added.

The overall concept

When I look at the shoe as a whole, I think it makes sense. The whole concept holds water. I think the shoe is stable, soft and nice. It is a running shoe that reduces injuries, and the whole concept is characterized by that.

The fit

If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know that I'm a fan of this tight fit in a running shoe. I get that to a great extent in the Nike React Infinity. So of course, that's a huge advantage for the undersigned.

The price

I don't think the price is exorbitant. It is tentatively set at 1,300,- But already at the time of writing I can see it is down to 1,200,- So I wonder if it will find its natural place around a thousand kroner. And for that price you really get a lot of running shoes for the money.

Disadvantages

The weight and feel

If you take any other running shoe with the same stability as the Nike React Infinity, you would be happy with 284 grams in size 43. But (maybe) because it is a Nike shoe there are different expectations. At least my feeling is that the shoe is heavier in its roll than I expected. A slightly heavy feeling.

Breathability

I want it all. But you don't always get that. The upper and its material help give the shoe a stable look that I really like. On the other hand, I think it's bad that I have the feeling of a heavier and less breathable upper.

The insole

A small annoyance for me. But to me it seems completely crazy that you can't get the insole out of the shoe without violence and force. It is loose in 2/3 of the shoe, but is attached to the front of the shoe. In my eyes, a strange decision.

Analysis part 1: Who should and should run in the Nike React Infinity Run

Analysis part number 1 is the part of our in-depth analysis that takes into account the shoe AND the runner. Who can run in the Nike React Infinity Run, and what advantages and disadvantages it can give you as a runner.

Which running style

It can be dangerous to write like that. But I would assume that 80-85% of Danish runners can run in the Nike React Infinity. The shoe can take even moderately pronating runners, due to its sole construction. So if I have to directly refer to a running style, the Nike React Infinity is for both the neutral and the pronating runner.

Fit

You should definitely be prepared for a tight fit in the Nike React Infinity. The highly elastic Flyknit upper means that the shoe really fits around your foot.

  • Size: Regular
  • Heel: Tight fit
  • Midfoot: Tight fit
  • Forefoot: Tight fit
  • Toe: Spacious

Surfaces and conditions

The shoe is designed for running on hard surfaces. Both the outsole and the entire construction are designed for running on hard surfaces. The Nike React Infinity is perfect for running on the road. Stay away from places with branches and thorns. The upper is too fragile and breaks very easily in connection with branches and thorns. (even though this in this particular running shoe has been upgraded and made more robust)

Price level

The price of the pig. It’s always a difficult figure to deal with. Because it’s so individual in relation to who you ask, which shoe, how much you run. All of those things play into your assessment of the price of a running shoe. It may sound arrogant, but it is in no way when I say that the recommended price of 1300,- is a fair price. My guess is that it will find its place around 1000-1100 kroner. And that’s a fair price, I think.

What does the Nike React Infinity Run weigh?

Nike React Infinity weighs in the model I tested 284 grams per shoe. (size 43) I have mentioned it several times. When you look at the shoe and its stability and ability you should not be dissatisfied with 284 grams. Personally, I just expected something different and a lighter feeling in the shoe.

Washing and maintenance

You can take some steps to wash and maintain your running shoes. Just make sure you never put your Nike React Infinity in the washing machine. You can read our guide to washing and maintaining running shoes here.

Drop height

9 mm drop i Nike React Infinity Run. Hvilken i dagens Danmark må betegnes som det mange kalder en almindelige løbesko. Den type løbesko som den typiske danske hællander kan løbe i. Drophøjder: Forfodshøjde: 24mm Hælhøjde: 33mm

Analysis Part 2: Technical Review of the Nike React Infinity

Here we go into all the technical details of the running shoe. Therefore, there may well be one or two technical terms. But we always do our best to keep it as simple as possible.

The outsole

There’s actually not much to say about the outsole of the shoe if I have to decide. There’s nothing new, but from the other side, everything works as it should. In relation to the surfaces and conditions that the shoe is made for, the outsole does what it’s supposed to. There’s plenty of grip in the shoe when running on the road, even in the rain.

Midsole

The midsole is so exciting, and in more ways than one. Not only is the material perfect, but its shape is also exciting to highlight. There is 24% more React foam in the Nike React Infinity than ended up in the Nike Epic React. The material is so springy and surprisingly stable (due to the guide rails around the shoe) that the shoe should be an exciting alternative for the vast majority of runners. The midsole and its very soft and stable structure mean that the shoe is actually designed to be injury-reducing. You can run much more in this shoe without getting injured/overloaded. It is smooth running on softness. You may have seen the shape of the midsole somewhere before. It is higher than normal. This rounding on the sole of the shoe helps create the feeling of propulsion. A rounding that you can also see on the Nike VaporFly shoes. This high midsole consisting of lots of React material, that is the heart of the shoe, and what makes the shoe so attractive.

Heel

Good and stable heel construction. It doesn’t do anything specific, and therefore nothing wrong. It fulfills what a heel in a running shoe should fulfill.

Shock absorption

Fantastic cushioning that primarily comes from the React midsole. Lots of spring and lots of energy return with every step. As mentioned earlier, you get lots of smooth running with this shoe. And that’s largely due to the cushioning.

Forefoot

A good fit if you ask me. The upper in the forefoot is just to my taste. A tight but flexible fit. (that’s what you get with Nike Flyknit) The thick midsole is also represented in the forefoot, and combined with the sole that rounds, it’s a super cool feeling you get from the shoe.

Upper part

A thicker and heavier upper than expected. Or actually knew, due to research, before the Nike React Infinity landed on my doorstep that it would have a more robust Flyknit upper. And although I am a fan of it being MUCH MORE robust, I am on the contrary really sad that it feels as thick as it does and that it has lost its breathability. In fact, the new Flyknit upper on the Nike React Infinity was supposed to be composed of 3 layers. Basically, it is not a change that I feel when I run. It is still super comfortable, but I don’t feel that it should be “put together differently” as a starting point.

Comparisons to Nike React Infinity Run

The easiest thing would be to write Nike Epic React. But since it is being discontinued and this running shoe is the direct replacement, that might not be entirely fair. Of course, I have to refer you to Nike Air Max 90

the shoe. Because there are a number of components in the Nike React Infinity that point in that direction. And Nike has also proclaimed that themselves. The shoe is a composition that is similar to the stability from Nike Structure, and the speed elements from Vaporfly. My very personal feeling and comparison, if I have to look away from the technical construction, I think it reminds me a lot of the feeling I have when I run inAsics GT-2000.Super soft, good stability, but not the lightest running shoe in the world. On the other hand, a running shoe where I can run countless kilometers with very high comfort.

Summary

How should I explain my feelings about the Nike React Infinity? It’s a bit of an ambivalent feeling. Because I can’t say that I’m super-duper excited. On the contrary, it’s not a bad running shoe at all, but a running shoe that I can recommend to many. I’m going to assume that it’s all down to the fact that I’m a bit disappointed with the feel and weight of the shoe. But I also have to be honest and say that for the last many, many runs I’ve been in ultra-light Vaporfly Next running shoes. Maybe that has an impact on my rating. The Nike React Infinity gains a lot from its sociability. There are SO many runners who can use this running shoe due to its stable construction (of a neutral running shoe being). There are more pluses than minuses in the shoe. Actually, quite a few more pluses, so the Nike React Infinity gets my recommendation, especially because of its versatility and great softness.
