What’s new
The Salomon Fellraiser is a proven winner that is low, lightweight and quick drying. An ideal trail shoe for training and running in muddy and wet conditions.
I have found it to be close to perfect for the wet and humid Danish winter. The outsole is aggressive and gives the Fellraiser a strong grip, allowing you to run confidently on even very wet and challenging surfaces. It is a super cool running experience that the running shoe gives you these freedoms.
Below you can read my review and test of the Salomon Fellraiser.
Born as a bastard child of two of Salomon’s popular and widely used trail running shoes, Salomon Speedcrossand Salomon Fellcross, you get the best of both worlds.
A running shoe with a low drop and a rough outsole with a strong grip, especially on wet surfaces.
The shoe is packed with the latest technology and of course has Salomon’s classic and popular Quicklace system, which allows you to get in and out of the shoe quickly and easily.
Salomon as you know it with an anatomically correct fit and sublime trail properties.

First impressions
I have been really excited to get started testing the Salomon Fellraiser. I have tested several different trail shoes and have had the opportunity to read and hear very positive things about the Fellraiser, which also made me decide to review and test the shoe. Was it really too good that Løbemagasinet has given it 6 out of 6 possible stars in their test and review. The very first impression is really good, I think it is a cool design that plays well and the shoe looks like a real trail shoe. In terms of comfort, the fit feels good and tight. I jump straight on the iron horse and head to Hareskoven, where the first test will be. It needs to be tested in its right element – that way we can give the users the best conditions.

Even though it had rained the day before and the ground was very muddy, I have a really good grip. The initial nervousness and reluctance are quickly thrown overboard and replaced by play and fast running around the forest floor. It’s really fun. The mud is splashing up my legs, but it doesn’t matter while I’m running around out among the tall trees in my new Salomon Fellraiser. When I get back to the apartment, it becomes a bit problematic.

After countless altitude meters and kilometers
During my test, I have had the Salomon Fellraiser out on many different trails, both in Denmark and the Alps, and as impressed as I was at first, I am just as impressed today. I have a few small things that I think could have been improved. For example, a little protection on the foot. And then I have found out that running on asphalt should be minimized and done as little as possible. This shoe is simply not built for long runs – it is a distinct trail running shoe.

I have been very pleased with the performance of the shoe on both wet and dry trails and am really pleased with the confidence that the shoe’s strong grip gives on trails. In particular, I have been able to run much faster downhill. Instead of avoiding falling, I have been able to concentrate on running as fast as possible. On flatter trails, the Fellraiser is nothing special, but when it comes to ups and downs it comes into its own and has given me many good experiences on the trail.

It’s always nice to have impressions from as many runners as possible. I’ve also added this graphic, which shows the general satisfaction.

Salomon Fellraiser size
There are some mixed opinions about the size of the Salomon Fellraiser. I just used my regular size, while others have found that they should have taken half a size smaller in the Salomon Fellraiser. The best thing you can do is probably measure the exact length of your feet at home in the living room and then go to Salomon’s website and findtheir chart for Fellraiser size. There you can accurately measure yourself to find the right size for you.
As you can see below, there is a common impression that the Salomon Fellraiser is true to size. Only a few experience that the shoe is a little small in the sizes.

Advantages and disadvantages
Benefits
Tight grip on the surface
Versatile use
Close to the ground
Disadvantages
Too high on hard ground
Be careful with asphalt
There could be more protection at the front
Why you should buy the shoe
- If you are looking for an all-round trail shoe
- Running magazine has given Fellraiser 6 out of 6 stars
- You are a neutral or pronating runner
- You want a lightweight running shoe
Analysis Part 1: Is Salomon Fellraiser for you?
Running style
The shoe is mainly aimed at the neutral or supinating runner. Now I’m a neutral runner too, but I don’t feel that it makes much of a difference in trail shoes. Especially not on single trails, where you have just as much focus on just getting your foot in the right place. There’s not much support or cushioning in the shoe.

Fit
I think the fit of the Salomon Fellraiser is really good. It is a little wider in the forefoot, which is optimal for those with wider feet. The simple quicklace system makes it easy and quick to take the shoe on and off. With Sensifit you get an upper that hugs the foot and provides a precise and secure fit.
- Heel: Medium
- Midfoot: Medium to low volume
- Forefoot: Medium
- Toe height: Medium
- Arch structure: Medium to high
- Shoe shape: Semi-curved
In fine clothes
It has been built for many changing, smooth and uneven surfaces. It is an all-round trail running shoe, which is best in wet conditions. Fellraiser is a good all-round trail running shoe, avoid using it too much on asphalt and harder surfaces. Instead, focus on forest paths and single trails.
Salomon Fellraiser price
The recommended Salomon Fellraiser price is 900 kr. This is a good mid-level, where you get a lot for your money. However, you can almost always find Salomon Fellraiser on offer or sale around the web. There is no reason not to buy Salomon Fellraiser, as cheap as possible.

Weight
Master: Approximately 271 grams in size 42
Lady: Approximately 249 grams in size 39
Salomon Fellraiser is a lighter running shoe that doesn’t feel like much on the foot. This makes it very versatile for both competitions and long training sessions. An exciting level where performance meets lightweight construction.
Type of shoe
It’s a trail running shoe of the highest quality. Designed to provide the best grip on variable surfaces, whether it’s slippery or dry. I’ve had so many great trail experiences with the Salomon Fellraiser that you quickly learn to trust it and just give it full throttle, even if it’s slippery and tricky.
Durability
Since the shoe is built for trails, there has also been a lot of focus on creating a durable construction. Both in the upper and outsole. The upper must be able to withstand being hit by branches, bushes, rocks and whatever else you find on trails. The outsole must be so durable that the track and grip in the shoe do not disappear after a few hundred kilometers of running.

Drop as well as heel and forefoot height
With a limited heel and forefoot height of 21 and 15 mm respectively, you get close to the ground and can feel changes in the surface and control your foot on surfaces that are constantly changing. This is extremely important intrail running shoes, where you need to be prepared for surprises at ground level. As you may have guessed, the shoe’s drop is 6 mm, which is on the lower end and will give you a natural running style, with landing and take-off further forward on the foot.
Analysis Part 2: More Technical Review
The outsole
The outsole is very rough, so you can always get a strong and secure grip on the ground. The rough outsole makes the shoe really good for wet and muddy surfaces. In order to be able to handle the many demanding surfaces and runs on asphalt (only to the nearest trail of course), they have made a very durable outsole with several different specialized rubber materials.
Midsole
The midsole has varying levels of shock absorption. Being a relatively low shoe with a lower drop, the shoe provides effective and responsive shock absorption.

Heel
In the heel you will find a slightly higher and stronger shock absorption than in the rest of the shoe. This ensures that you do not hit the ground too hard if you land on your heel.
Midfoot
In the midfoot, the Salomon Fellraiser has a stable construction that transfers energy from the heel to the forefoot, so you can get the most powerful takeoff possible.
Forefoot
To give you a powerful and natural take-off, the height in the forefoot is lower than in the rest of the shoe. This allows you to utilize the many forces in the forefoot to move quickly and efficiently to the next step.

Upper part
There are very specific requirements for the upper of a trail running shoe. Not only must the upper be breathable, flexible and comfortable (like the upper in the Salomon Fellraiser), it must also be able to protect your foot from natural elements such as stones, rocks, branches, etc. The upper is made of a breathable mesh material. Right at the toes there is a protective toe-box that is harder and protects your toes from the aforementioned obstacles. The whole thing is closed together by the quicklace system, where you can quickly fasten and open the running shoes.
Difference between lady and gentleman
Salomon Fellraiser men’s running shoes
I have of course tested a men’s model of the Salomon Fellraiser. Therefore, everything I have written in this review will apply to the men’s model.
Salomon Fellraiser women’s running shoes
The women’s running shoe is slightly narrower in fit than the corresponding men’s model. Below you will be able to read more precisely about the differences between the Salomon Fellraiser for men and women.

Concrete differences between men’s and women’s shoes
The most important difference between the men’s and women’s models is that the women’s shoe is slightly narrower than the men’s model, to fit women’s generally slightly narrower feet. So you probably shouldn’t choose the opposite sex’s Fellraiser, even if you prefer the design in one or the other. There is also a difference in the shock absorption, which in the men’s model is stronger than the women’s model. This is because men usually weigh more and therefore land harder on the ground.
Where can you find the shoe on sale?
Fellraiser offers
Many stores often run deals on the Salomon Fellraiser, in order to offer you the cheapest price on the sought-after running shoe. Instead of you having to sit around and find the best deal on the Fellraiser yourself, I have found the market’s best and cheapest prices for you in my price comparison at the top of the article.
Online sales
Salomon Fellraiser is one of the most popular trail running shoes on the market and therefore there is naturally good competition between running stores. This is only good for you. This means that you can often find Salomon Fellraiser on sale at low prices.

Comparison
There are more and more trail running shoes on the market. The Salomon Fellraiser is still one of the most popular, but if you want to explore the trail running shoe market, I would recommend you to take a look at the following running shoes. If you want to stick to the same brand, this is thegroundbreaking Salomon Speedcross worth a look. For the more competitive runner, Inov8 X Talon 212 a lighter running shoe a good choice, otherwise there is the similar oneInov8 Oroc 280 for smooth trails.
Summary
To conclude my review of the Salomon Fellraiser, I would like to give you the main points of the test. I have had some really great experiences with the Salomon Fellraiser on the trail, and can definitely recommend the shoe to those of you who need an effective trail shoe for the changeable Danish weather and surface in the shoe. It is not just for gravel paths and the like, but is aimed at more serious and challenging trails. The shoe gives you a lot of value for your money, with a long durability and a relatively low price. Especially if you use my price comparator to find the market’s best offer and lowest price on the Salomon Fellraiser.
Price comparison
I’ve been around the different stores and found these prices. It looks like there are some really good savings to be had this week.
