Salomon PRO – News from Salomon – The new Speedcross

Let’s just say it right away. I think it was a dangerous cocktail to take their 2 series and try to connect them. I can easily see that it would seem logical to run their current Speedcross 3 model into the S-lab series, and in that way create a more perfect running shoe for trail and terrain. Salomon is known for having a good grip on that market

I’m not always a fan of the idea that just because you have two good things, it’s twice as good when you combine them. I’ll leave it at that. Whether it’s twice as good straight away is uncertain. But the development of Salomon PRO (Speedcross) At least in my eyes, it’s a success for Salomon.

Salomon have been really good at keeping it simple, and have understood how to take the best things and run them together. Understandably, that’s not all they have “fused together” in this shoe. But they have taken some virtues from both shoes, and given this Salomon PRO version some clear advantages.

For me, Salomon PRO is a really good trail running shoe – but it also has its challenges, but we’ll get to that later.

Salomon PRO Speedcross - Neutral running style, and for those of you who like colors in your running shoes.

Salomon Speedcross PRO - For those who want a crazy and complete trail running shoe that just works.

You choose NOT Speedcross PRO if you want to be neutral when you're not running. The shoe screams for attention.

Testing the shoe

What was my first thought after the test?

Many in the trail running universe are familiar with both the classic Speedcross running shoe, and then the slightly newer S-lab series from Salomon. Now these 2 fantastic branches have been united in a beautiful composition. It is no secret that I like Salomon Speedcross and the whole concept around that shoe. I am a little more lukewarm when we talk about the S-lab series from Salomon – but that may be because it does not appeal to me as a runner. But to see and touch this Speedcross PRO – it was, to put it bluntly, quite a pleasure. All the good things I like about the classic Speedcross, have just been spiced up a bit with some good things from the S-lab shoes.

salomon pro speedcross shoes

Running a trail run – this time in the forest – is always great. I may have a hard time explaining it, but I just think I’m a little bit freer when I put on my trail shoes and disappear into the forest. If I combine that with some good weather, it’s completely unique. But at first glance at the Speedcross PRO, it catches my eye. And why wouldn’t it? It has the catchy colors that Salomon is known for delivering to runners. All in all, it’s a no-brainer at first glance. And I’m not of a different opinion after the first 2 runs of 6 and 9 kilometers in the forest, respectively. I’m not the perfect trail runner, but I still think I can feel when a running shoe fits properly in the slightly more challenging terrain. My first impression of the Salomon PRO is that it fits really well, it’s close to the ground, and I look super smart (not a big deal – but it has to be mentioned).

Salomon Speedcross offer

More trips/trails gave more experiences

The Pro version of the Speedcross is probably going to be my favorite colorful running shoe for the woods. I’ve worn it a few times now, and what I think you can feel with this running shoe is that you get a somewhat optimized upper, as well as an outsole that feels like it grips the ground better. It must be said that I haven’t worn the shoe in the fully padded setup yet – but my feeling is that it handles it better than, for example, the regular Salomon Speedcross that I’ve used a lot before.

The running shoe is approved. However, I am still convinced that there is still room for improvement. As I write about the Ordinary Speedcross, I am afraid that perhaps they have put 10% too much focus on maintaining the trend that Salomon’s running shoes should also be super smart and can be used as leisure shoes. Of course, it can be used, even do it yourself. But but but, if you went 110% into the trail world with this model, I think it would look different, but then half as many would probably not be sold. And there will be so many Speedcross models in all its guises.

Howard Andre Has Said About Skene

Martin Andersen, Hobro, Mixed race on all surfaces

  • Salomon Speedcross has always been a favorite. A great design, and it can handle the bit of trail I go out on. Great colors and a really good fit.–Martin Andersen, Hobro

Morten Sketin, North Zealand, Runs almost only trail

  • I almost only run trail, and have therefore tried quite a few shoes. Including Speedcross 3 - and I must say that this fusion of Speedcross and S-lab appeals to me a lot. There are improvements in significant areas..–Morten Sketin, Nordsaelland

Signe Andersen, Ribe, Runs trail once in a while

  • The Salomon Pro model gives me some advantages. I feel like I've gotten closer to the ground. And there's nothing wrong with the fact that they're also made in a nice design.–Signe Andersen, Ribe

Shoe size = normal

If I had to give a hint about the size of the Salomon Pro Speedcross – it’s normal. Well, normal from a Salomon point of view. Their Speedcross fits nicely close to the foot, and that’s also the case with the Pro model.

Advantages and disadvantages

Benefits

Using the shoe

It may seem doubly moral, but I have taken it as an advantage that the shoe can be used for both running and leisure. This saves him or her who doesn't want a shoe for everything about 1000,-.

The price

The Speedcross PRO has received some improvements compared to its predecessors, but they have still managed to keep the running shoe at a very attractive price point.

The technology

That they have managed to combine the two good Salomon series and their technologies in a quite solid way. There was a fair risk of hitting the wrong spot - but I don't think Salomon has done that.

Disadvantages

Still a little heavy for trail

Uh, I know I'm hard to please on the weight scale. I want all the technology, dry feet and all that. but at the same time the shoe must not weigh anything. I think I can feel when I run that the Pro model is still a bit too heavy.

Fear of heights

This running shoe has had a reduction in height compared to, for example, Speedcross. They have managed to bring something really good from the S-lab series. But I still think it seems like it is too high, and thus a greater risk of breaking around in extreme positions.

Why you should buy the shoe

  • You want a combination shoe. Trail and leisure.
  • Really good fit – sits close and sublimely on the foot
  • If you don’t want dirt and grime getting into your shoe

Analysis part 1: Who is the shoe aimed at?

Running style

Like the 2 shoes or series that this PRO shoe is created from, it is for the runner in the forest who has a neutral running style, or a little bit of pronation. If we look at what type of runner you are, this model has become a little more for you who want to run aggressively. The shoe has become a little lower, so you don’t have to fear as much that you will twist your ankle.

Fit

The PRO version of the Speedcross is a bit better than the regular version. It has a slightly tighter fit. The upper has been updated with a slightly tighter mesh and an upper that has no seams.

In fine clothes

Another part that has been improved. Where the regular ContraGrip sole had a reputation for not quite gripping the ground as it should, it has now been improved, and you get a better grip on the ground now.

Weight

Master: Approximately 306 grams in size 42

Durability

It really wins many runners’ hearts. As a runner, you will experience that you get a unique and very durable trail running shoe in this model. And the fact that the upper has been made with denser mesh just makes it even more durable. Now it is not so fragile against thorns and sharp branches.

REMEMBER that you should not use your trail shoes on asphalt. The sole is built for "trail surfaces" and not asphalt.

Drop height

Too high, so short it can and SHOULD be said. You run with a feeling that you don’t quite dare to push your running and movements to the max. Simply for fear of “breaking over”

Analysis part 2: Structure

The outsole

Improved ContaGrip gives you much better grip on soft, muddy or snowy surfaces. It was on this front that the Speedcross had received some complaints – but this has now been addressed in the PRO model.

Midsole

The Lightweight Muscle material ensures you have really good shock absorption. It’s a midsole that’s set up really smartly when we’re talking about your feet having the best conditions.

Heel

A great combination of stability and softness. Many people want a soft running shoe, many forget to think about balance and stability. The heel section of the PRO is good, and holds your foot as it should, and ensures that the winding process is carried out correctly.

Forefoot

You have good contact with the ground, and thus also the best feeling when you run. There is no extra softness in the forefoot, as trail shoes prioritize differently.

Insole

An optimized insole that wraps around your foot, thereby giving you the best conditions from the inside when you run.

Upper part

You can still breathe in the shoe – however, the mesh upper has become a bit denser. This means that the upper is not as fragile anymore. There is a better seal against dirt and grime.

Summary

I’m a fan. I’m generally a fan of Salomon and their whole mindset around many colors and trail. Their shoes fit really well on my feet. Salomon Pro Speedcross is no exception. They have managed to make and produce a good trail running shoe with all the best from 2 series from Salomon.
