Salomon Sense Ride, this is what you should especially note
It’s a bit of a fear of repeating ourselves, but it has to be said anyway. Salomon manufactures very high quality products. They manufacture both clothing, footwear and hardware. But even though the product range is wide, there is never any compromise on quality. When Salomon manufactures trail running shoes, they manufacture them with a purpose, and not just for the sake of manufacturing. Therefore, there are some things you should especially note about the Salomon Sense Ride.
Salomon Sense Ride is a trail running shoe that is comfortable to wear for a long time. And what do you think?. Yes, but it is a fantastic fact, and something that has been thought about by Salomon when they manufactured the shoe. Because there are many other trail running shoes that are fantastic in their properties, but perhaps not quite as comfortable to wear for a long time at a time. But you will definitely not experience this problem with a Salomon Sense Ride. That is why you can also see and read in many places that if you need a soft and comfortable hiking shoe, then the Sense Ride from Salomon could also be a fantastic starting point.
The next thing you should especially notice about the Salomon Sense Ride is the fit. We’ll get into that more later, but it’s one of its absolute strengths. It’s a trail running shoe that hugs your foot. It may sound like a cliché, but you don’t actually notice that you’re wearing it. The Salomon Sense Ride, like almost all other Salomon Trail running shoes, is a little narrow in the middle. This is due to the neoprene “sock” that is inside the shoe to optimize the fit. But it’s in no way an irritant.
Last but certainly not least, ALLROUND and FLEXIBLE running shoes must be the buzzwords for the Salomon Sense Ride. Because it really is a super flexible and all-round trail running shoe when it comes to use. It’s probably only the muddiest terrains you should stay away from with the Sense Ride. In fact, I would like to give our colleagues atLoebeshop.dkquite right when they write in their review that it can actually also be used on asphalt. Not that it is recommended, but it can certainly be. But you can read more about that in the user test of the Salomon Sense Ride further down the page. But when a trail running shoe can cover both forest floors, dirt roads, gravel paths, stones, rocks, and even asphalt, then it certainly deserves the predicate flexible and all-round.

First impressions and run – Salomon Sense Ride
When you are particularly enthusiastic about trail running, and you have also had some really good experiences in other models from Salomon in relation to trail running, you look forward to the shoe arriving in the mail.
Salomon Sense Ride is a shoe for trail. But not a shoe that fits perfectly, as a starting point, for the type of trail that I like to run the most. But still, you are surprised time and time again when Salomon makes technical products. As always, everyone, even the smallest details, have been thought of.
I’m lucky enough to live in the country (the pronunciation is at my own expense). But when it comes to testing trail running shoes in particular, it certainly has its clear advantage.
The first run in the Salomon Sense Ride was enough to convince me of some things I had researched beforehand. The first research before purchasing, delivering and using the Salomon Sense Ride was that the shoe was very versatile and an all-round trail running shoe. It actually didn’t take more than 6.5 kilometers to prove that. I’m lucky to have a lake, forest and beach nearby. The first run in the Salomon Sense Ride was planned for a walk in the forest. And the way to the forest was on a paved path. So the route was unique in terms of testing the shoe on several of the surfaces it should be able to handle..
After the first run I had nothing to complain about the shoe. It solved the tasks it was supposed to for UG cross and snake. I was actually a little speechless that I basically had nothing to complain about the shoe. The only small thing that could be was that it was a little hard to get into, and I could also easily feel what I had read about, namely that the shoe feels a little narrow in the middle. But it was never bothersome to me, so no complaints here.

Subsequent trips only confirmed the assessment
I don’t have a count of exactly how many trips I’ve run in the Salomon Sense Ride since then. But I’m sure that after even more trips I still stand by the fact that it is, in my opinion, an excellent trail running shoe that Salomon has put on the market this time. In fact, probably the best for its preferred terrain in more than 10 years.
When you test running shoes, you also have to challenge fate and “stress-test” the shoes. In other words, move a little towards the edge in relation to what the shoe should be able to do and what it offers. That is why the Salomon Sense Ride was naturally also tested in semi-muddy terrain. It is not preferable for that surface, but surprised me once again, because I had imagined the result to be much worse than it was. It was not a pure skating rink in relation to the surface, but I could feel that there was uncertainty in the sharp turns with mud. Because the Salomon Sense Ride is not stuck there. Unless you slow down a bit, it is quite possible.
The user test of the Salomon Sense Ride was a pleasure. I can only confirm all the praise I can read about it all over the Internet. I am happy to be the next in line to praise the Salomon Sense Ride. Because it can do something that none of the others can right now.
Size selection
Experience tells us that you should buy footwear by centimeter measurements. I always do that, as a size 43 is not always a size 43. So I always buy my running shoes (and all other footwear) in 27.5 cm. This corresponds to a size 43 1/3 at Salomon, so in this case it corresponds very well to the fact that I “should” use a 43 or a 43.5. There is not much you need to pay attention to. Well, we should probably mention that you should not buy the Salomon Sense Ride in a size larger to get them a little wider. Then you ruin the experience. The Salomon Sense Ride may feel a little small because it tightens a little above the middle. But that is only to increase comfort, and it gets better and better the more you run in it.

Analysis Part 1: Who can run in the Salomon Sense Ride
Part 1 of the analysis focuses on who can and should run in the Salomon Sense Ride. What type of runner should you be, and what should you be aware of?
Which running style
In regular trail running shoes, it doesn’t make sense to look at whether a shoe is neutral or maybe has a pronation wedge. When you run trail, a pronation wedge will not be an advantage even if you are a pronator runner. You have to remember that the surface is much softer and different when you run trail, and your feet will not be in a natural running position for very long at a time. That’s why trail running shoes are usually made without support and wedges..
Salomon Sense Ride is basically marked as a neutral running shoe (like all other trail running shoes). Maybe it makes a little more sense to look at it in relation to this particular running shoe. Because even though it is not recommendable in terms of durability, Salomon Sense Ride is exactly so flexible that I would not be afraid to run 5-7-9 kilometers on asphalt in it. But remember, the outsole is not built for that, so it wears out quickly.

Fit
If you are going to run in Salomon Sense Ride, you should not be afraid of a tight fit. But it is a bit contradictory to say that Salomon Sense Ride is tight. Because that is not the case on the entire foot. It is tight (and slightly narrower) in the middle, but on the other hand not very tight in the forefoot where there is plenty of room for your toes. But somehow it just gives, overall, a really good experience in terms of fit. And it is also nice and easy to tighten the fit individually with the smart Quick lace (laces). This makes it easy to regulate the fit during the run. For example, if your feet swell a little and you want to loosen the shoe a little, this is very cleverly done with this smart lacing system.
- Size: Regular
- Heel: Tight fit
- Midfoot: Tight
- Forefoot: Wider
- Shoe tip: Regular
- Arch structure: low
- Shoe shape: semi-curved
Surfaces and conditions
Salomon Sense Ride is unique and brilliant in this regard. The shoe offers so many possibilities to switch between different surfaces. This means that with this one shoe you can cover many aspects of trail running. Some of the surfaces that Salomon Sense Ride can be used on include:
- Forest floor
- Gravel paths
- Soil
- Paths with stones
- Cliff
- Asphalt (remember durability)
But it is also worth mentioning and noting that if a little moisture comes into the picture. That is, if the surface tends more towards the muddy direction, then the Salomon Sense Ride falls a little short. So you should expect somewhat less grip on the surface.

Price level
Are you worried that the Salomon Sense Ride is too expensive? It has a suggested retail price of 1,300,- And in many people’s eyes, that is a high price when we talk about a trail running shoe. We started by writing that Salomon did not always produce the cheapest trail running shoes, but on the other hand some of the best. That message holds true 110% here. But I would also like to point out that the price in my eyes is completely fair. 1,300,- is a lot of money, but you get a lot for your money. So in that way, it is fair enough that the Salomon Sense Ride should cost 1,300,-
What does the Salomon Sense Ride weigh?
The Salomon Sense Ride is not the lightest nor the heaviest trail running shoe on the market. It is positioned right in the middle of it all. It weighs 290 grams in a size 43 1/3..
You may find it easier, but then you automatically lose some fit or features. For example, another incredibly popular trail running shoe weighsInov8 Trail Talon 250, only 233 grams in a size 42 1/2. But I would also say that you, for example, lose the opportunity for very long runs, and runs on asphalt, because the Trail Talon can’t do that. The sole is not “good enough” But it is on a Salomon Sense Ride, and that is so decisive for the weight.

Care and maintenance of Sense Ride
You should always air out your running shoes if you want to keep them (relatively) odor-free. It’s not always possible. But if you take out the insole after every run and let the shoe air out, you’re well on your way. So of course you’ll continue to do that on the Salomon Sense Ride..
You make sure that if the shoe has become wet or damp, it dries naturally. And when you look at the fact that the Salomon Sense Ride does not have its absolute strengths in muddy terrain, we can probably already conclude that the shoe is not soaked in mud. But there may still be some dirt on it. If you let the shoe dry through, that kind of dirt is usually easy to brush off.
Drop height
A drop height that is very similar to your “normal running shoes”. It is an obvious trail running shoe for longer cruise trips, and you will not, as with other trail running shoes, experience that you come much further forward on the forefoot. Then you need a lower drop.
Drop heights:
Forefoot height: 19mm
Heel height: 27mm

Analysis Part 2: Technical Review of Sense Ride from Salomon
In analysis part 2, we have the opportunity to go a little more in-depth with the techniques behind a running shoe. Therefore, you should know that there may well be a technical term or two in relation to the descriptions.
The outsole
At Salomon they call the material Premium Wet Traction. It is the material that ensures you have good grip on so many different surfaces. The studs on the outsole that are supposed to create the grip are about 3-4 mm high. Therefore, it is not an outsole that is made for very damp and muddy surfaces.

Midsole
A mix of Energy Cell+ and VIBE gives you the optimal cushioning. And it contributes to the fact that Salomon Sense Ride is loved for its ability to provide a perfect fit and experience, even on long rides. It is important to point out that the cushioning is not too soft, because it may seem that way. But as previously mentioned, it is perfectly balanced, in terms of being able to both respond to technically challenging terrain, but at the same time be able to speed through many kilometers in them.

Heel
Gives the support and stability it needs. Short and to the point. No inconvenience or other complaints. It doesn’t cause problems, so it does its job.
Shock absorption
I think the softness of the Salomon Sense Ride is unique. Normally I wouldn’t give it much thought because a trail running shoe usually doesn’t have as high a cushioning requirement as a road running shoe. The terrain and surface usually compensate for that..
But now that we conclude that the Salomon Sense Ride can actually perform on harder surfaces, and also asphalt, the shock absorption suddenly becomes a more important factor. And it does that well.
Upper part
Soft and comfortable. Follows the movements of the foot really well. And really just helps complete the good fit in the shoe.

Comparisons. Which models are similar?
If we start by looking within our own ranks. So which other Salomon trail running shoes could be like the Salomon Sense Ride? Then I think you could take a look at models likeS-lab Sonic and S-lab Sense ultra from Salomon. They are somewhat similar in style, but without quite resembling this unique Salomon Sense Ride.
If we take one of Salomon’s biggest competitors, Inov8, they have a model called the TrailTalon 250. It’s a bit like the Salomon Sense Ride, but doesn’t have nearly the same capabilities for longer distances. But they do have the flexibility and lightness in common.
Summary
Can you just write “I’m a fan” Hardly, but that’s how it is. The Salomon Sense Ride has impressed me all the way through. The fact that a trail running shoe encompasses so many different aspects is just brilliant. I think my runs in this shoe are great, and I think that’s because I don’t feel like I’m wearing a shoe. It’s a really cool “cruise” shoe, which also offers you the opportunity for more technical and demanding runs. So I wonder if the Salomon Sense Ride will be allowed to stay in my closet, as a permanent part of my optimal running wardrobe.
In any case, it gets my warmest recommendations.
